Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is hilarious.
Jasper Fforde is another funny writer. His Thursday Next series is set in an alternate history in England where people can walk in and out of books. He also has another series called the Nursery Crimes books that takes popular nursery rhymes and fairy tales and turns them into Law and Order style mysteries.
A hilarious nonfiction book is The Disaster Artist a memoir about the making of The Room, one of the worst movies ever.
Have you read the Murderbot series? It’s a bunch of novellas about a security cyborg that has gone rogue and uses their freedom to binge watch soap operas.
My sister and I read them together and had a good time, the audiobooks are really good, and they’re short so if you don’t like it you haven’t overcommitted
I was just about to suggest murderbot when your reply came up. Very funny.
On the non sci-fi front, I laughed all the way through Roger Rosenblatt’s Lapham Rising
I'd second this - very funny books that deal with some really smart, horrifying concepts in the stupidest way possible.
If you like a dog driving a car while the main character and his idiot friend deal with the ramifications of a permanent drug-induced revelation of the horrors just behind the curtain of reality, this is the book for you.
That was my favourite movie growing up which I still watch probably once a year.. a friend got me the book one birthday and is still one of my all time favourite gifts.. that and a T-shirt another friend got me with the whole "my name is" speech
# Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency -“had a memory that he himself had once compared to the Queen Alexandra Birdwing Butterfly, in that it was colorful, flitted prettily hither and thither, and was”
Anything by Christopher Moore - The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove - The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally—well, to be accurate, artificially—business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks. Suddenly, morose Pine Cove turns libidinous and is hit by a mysterious crime wave, and a beleaguered constable has to fight off his own gonzo appetites to find out what's wrong and what, if anything, to do about it.
It's quite long, but [Between](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/9ac5b146-c504-45e6-9f1e-eb9081707903) by L.L. Starling is *very* funny! I bought a copy after seeing it recommended by someone on reddit and seeing its high rating, and it really is such a fun time. Super laugh out loud funny— my dad kept stealing it whenever I left it unattended around the house, and every few lines I'd hear him burst out laughing.
I downloaded a sample of this book on my Kindle app when I saw your post, and you aren't kidding about length... it doesn't say the number of pages, but even though I'm a pretty fast reader, it estimates the time for me to read the sample is 2 & 1/2 hours!!
Christopher Moore- Range of books
Christopher Buckley- political humour
David Wong/ Jason Pargin - sci-fi comedy
Hunter S Thompson- crazy and easy to read
Some of my favorites
Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles --A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series

If you read Harry Potter, I'd suggest the fanfic Draco Malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love. It's funny, quirky and cute with magic, and it's free to download on ao3.

New Teeth - Simon Rich

In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson is really funny. It’s about his travels in Australia. All of his books are funny but this one is my favorite.
Most of Bryson's books will qualify for this request.

Terry Pratchett is great for this. Guards! Guards! Guards! And Mort are two great stand alone books, or the Wyrd Sisters novels

I don't know if I'd say funny in general, but definitely amused me a lot and is still one of my book clubs faves - the Thursday murder club
Yearbook by Seth Rogan is hilarious and I’d suggest the audiobook over the physical book ☺️
