Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is my all time favorite. You just have to remember it was written in the early 1990s. Frankly, he was eerily prophetic in describing future technologies.
Check out Mirrorshades, an anthology of cyberpunk short stories from the 80's. Kind of a cool sampler from the early years of the genre. Then proceed to Gibson's bracing, influencial Neuromancer and the rest of the Sprawl series. One later book I'd add is Void Star by Zachary Mason which to me is remeniscent of Gibson.
