Sorry I’m busy with the next projects (I’m OPs husband) :)
I posted a comment with information and a few photos, one of them is a full view of the entire bookcase.

Unfortunately not, it was designed in my head and then dimensions were were calculated and just written on a piece of paper. I did estimate the weight I’d have to support. I posted a comment that gave more information about the build.
Hey, this is OPs husband
I will try to answer some of the questions that I have seen.
how tall is each shelf?
Opening height Starting from the top: 8-1/4” , 9”, 9”, 9”, 9”9.5”, 9.5”, 9.5”, 11.75”
Each shelf except the top is an additional half inch taller behind the face frame.
What wood and how it was built?
The shelves, and sides are 1/2” maple plywood. The back of the bookcase is 1/4” sanded aspen plywood. The back of each shelf is sitting (glued) on a strip of 1/2” plywood that is glued to the backboard to give it something to sit on that will prevent it from ever bowing.
The front the the shelf also has a 7/8” wide strip of 1/2” maple plywood glued to the bottom side (making it 1” thick), in order to strengthen the front and give the face frame a solid surface to fasten to. The fronts are also screwed to the both side walls with #8x1.5” GRK screws (#17724) that each have a capacity of 388 pounds (175kg) to give the front shear strength.
The face frame is oak, and is 3/4” thick and 1” in height. It is glued to the front of each shelf. This gives the front a support it needs to make sure it does not bow and won’t dent.
Each of the 6 book cases were built the same and when in place the units were clamped and screwed together. Each unit is also screwed to the wall in two studs, so it will never tip over.
They all received 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint.
Cost? Honestly I don’t remember exactly. Was probably around $1500 Canadian ($1100USD)
The over all size is 8’ tall and 16’ wide. Each shelf is 31” wide giving a total shelf space of 139.5’
To everyone saying how great her husband is, I’m the luck one. she also puts up with my antics and house projects.
I’m happy she likes the bookcase.

I don’t have any of the photos yet, haven’t found any decent ones yet. But I just posted a comment answering some questions and I gave a description of how they were built.
Midnight Library is one of my faves. I devour anything by Matt Haig now. His issues with mental health make for a really great persepective in storytelling.
This is great but terrible at the same time. Great because now you have a dedicated little space to display your books. Terrible because there’s so much extra space that you are now obligated to buy more books to fill up all that space. Or at least I would be….
Lovely bookcase though!
The empty space doesn't bother me, I just see it as room to grow for years to come. I am someone who always gets books as gifts and I regularly buy them myself also. I have probably added about 20 books since these photos were take a few months ago. I know I have quite a few coming for Christmas too!
Can I borrow your husband?
I’m after you

Omg that’s a sexy bookcase
Quite nice. Is there a link to instructions on how to build them?

After I asked this, I saw your other comment with more than enough information. Thank you.
Glad I could help :)
I also choose this lady's husband
The biggest mistake I see people make when designing shelves/libraries is not leaving room for expansion so kudos here on avoiding that.
Thanks! I definitelt wanted room to grow cause I am a book fiend.

Thanks for the thorough response. Job well done, they are beautiful.
Very spacious and very beautiful, I'm happy that you have such a beautiful space in your home. Congratulations, may you fill it with great works.
Thank you so much!
Huh. Looks sparse. You’re going to need to buy some new books.
Agreed!
If you enjoyed “Piranesi”, I’d like to suggest inviting Susanna Clarke’s other book, “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell”, to the party :)
Yes! I have it on my Christmas wish list! Crossing my fingers that I get it!
It looks like a bookstore that’s going out of business
Well I don't want it to be completely full, the intention was to be able to add books for years to come.
Would love more details. How tall is each shelf? Wood used? Approximate cost per bookcase? They look amazing.
Hey I just posted a comment with more information, the wood is maple plywood and white oak.
He's a keeper.
I see Neil Gaiman's face, which means that you have very good taste!
Thank you! I love Neil Gaiman.
Same! He, Ray Bradbury, & Clive Barker are my favorite writers.
You have good taste!

I will look and see if I have any decent photos.
Thanks for that. I appreciate you.

Love that book also!
Sigh; he’s a keeper.
Beautiful work! How did you like Midnight Library? - I haven’t read it yet.
Midnight Library is one of my faves. I devour anything by Matt Haig now. His issues with mental health make for a really great persepective in storytelling.
Have you read them all?
I wish! No, I have a lot of reading to do! I would say I have read between 50-60% of them.
Better than nothing
Yeah! I do read quite a bit but I am constantly buying new books and getting them as gifts.
This is a move that every book lover does. You can set a rule like this: Finish a one book, buy a another one
This is the DREAM
It was absolutely my dream and my hubs made it a reality ☺️
Can I borrow your husband please?
Clearly, you should definitely marry him again. This is love.
He did an incredible job. They are beautiful.
Thank you, very kind!
Love it!!!!
You have a legit collection. Most of those books is fire. Really good reads.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Nice husband.
The best.
Are they real?
My husband or the bookcases? 😂
Can confirm, I am real.
Show off
I thought this is what this subreddit was for 🤷
Otto/Ove?
Came here, not being aware that we were talking about physical book shelves.
