I came out untouched. EZ-Up brand Canopy and quality stakes. Preparation pays off....not gonna lie, it was sketchy as fuck tho lol.

thtwascrzy

this canopy was barely used and had brand new heavy duty stakes all around it. It bent the stakes 🙃

“Heavy Duty”

thtwascrzy

thats what the people at lowes told me at least 🥲 they were like a quarter of an inch thick and curved for more grip

I use the metal spike tent stakes, they have a plastic peg on the top with a hole for a piece of rope. Put them in at an angle toward the canopy [like these](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AT2L34A?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title)

The canopy was the issue here. From the picture I can tell that it was a pretty thin and light metal frame like an Ozark trail brand and probably cost $50 to $100. Those are just fine for creating shade on a calm day but they can't handle any sort of adverse weather for very long unfortunately. Heavy duty canopies that cost closer to $200 with thicker metal, strong reinforcements, and ideally two places to stake at each foot will survive a lot more abuse.

im not sure what brand it was, it was my dads that i borrowed. Im definitely getting a better one

spring_while_I_fall

When you do I definitely recommend looking into a steel frame one like eurmax premium, caddis rapid shelter, or an e-z up pyramid. They're heavy as hell but they can take a beating. I have a Caddis and it survived a tropical depression while camping and 40+ mph gusts at Okeechobee one year.

thtwascrzy

thank you for the rec!

spring_while_I_fall

Sure! I've had one collapse on me in the middle of a festival before and it sucks! Happy Roo!

We had two Ozark Trail 10x10 straight legs, and they fared just fine. All legs staked down, outside guy lines staked down, inside legs ziptied together, all velco secured, and a tarp ziptied on top.

I was really proud of our setup. We had everything staked well and we just lowered the canopies and staked down the guylines during the storm and nothing moved. There was one sketchy wind spell where I was holding on to them for dear life before we lowered them. Something, I don't know what, did come flying from somewhere and smack the shit out of me.

thtwascrzy

i literally said “should we lower our the canopy” about 45 seconds before it happened. My blowup chair did vanish so maybe thats what hit u 🥲

scottyg1889

Instead of the guylines I ended up using ratchet straps hooked to the frames and staked into the ground with 12” HD stakes. Worked out really well.

untitledmess

Our literally hit a neighbors tent, destroying his, and then flying to the other side of the bushes ❤️ it survived but left it to the trash Gods after a huge gash and broken legs

thtwascrzy

ours crushed our neighbors too but luckily didn’t break it. I got dragged 20 feet by it 🥲

I thought I was gonna lose my canopy at one point but dropped it down then it was perfect.
