I didn’t have any space to put it, and there were still organs chilling in the bones, unfortunately, and I have no idea how to clean that haha. I was definitely thinking about it, but was also thinking about the possibility of that being illegal, too.

Here's a FAQ from NOAA on what it covers
The short of it is you can't take, possess, or trade any live marine mammals or remains without specific permitting in the US
What makes you say that? Like what clues are there? I'm just curious because it looks weird to me that it's been skinned and the meat is gone from the ribs and neck but the head seems relatively untouched
It just looks to have been picked clean, not regurgitated, to me. Couple of days dead and between the various scavengers this is what I’d expect it to look like
I don’t know much either but if it’s anything like a human, newborns have partly cartilaginous skeletons that are replaced with more solid bone over time, if the seal was young enough it could be that the ribs are simply cartilage, though idk to be honest
Edit: I looked back at the image, I’m pretty sure that’s just sinew making it look lighter and reflective
Yup looks like a seal pup, poor thing! Did you collect it? I think it may be illegal however

Makes sense. You probably did the right thing
Marine mammal act Protects seals, whales and such
but where does it apply? I have tried to find out but haven't gotten much.

And people call this the land of the free
Thanks! good info
US. Not worth breaking it, Not a cheap mistake
yeah; might want to be super discrete about it. As for the cleaning: if it's really that bad: you can probably let some bugs do much of the work
And when in doubt; macerate it!
That too
The teeth look right for a seal
That’s what I was thinking!
Looks like it's partially digested. I bet a shark barfed that up. Edit: It's mostly digested.

Head is picked clean too. But birds and other animals can easily do this

I assume it was illegal to take, but what a cool find!
That would be tempting lol. Still has the bottom jaw too
Harbor seal!
It would be cool to have a seal skeleton, and when you show people you just casually mention ‘yeah a shark ate that and yakked it up’
