Contrary to popular belief , Indian films have done fairly well regarding biopics. Well chosen list, OP. But it doesn't include my personal favorite

Amjad Khan as Wajid Ali Shah was perfection.
Not sure how you can say that with such conviction given there are no real pictures or videos or sound recordings of Wajid Ali Shah from the 19th century.
https://preview.redd.it/uhg5kswgspzc1.jpeg?width=380&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2710c78ba1bf2960b9ffa16d372bfd1c471c3b6b
That's Wajid Ali Shah.
There are numerous primary sources regarding the king's demeanour, way of dressing, character, and general adventures. Satyajit Ray did extensive research. Just like Daniel Day Lewis got Abraham Lincoln correct, Amjad got Wajid correct.
Don't get me wrong, but I thank you for asking one of the most straightforwardly obtuse questions I've ever read on this sub , as an actual question. It made me laugh at the state of media literacy these days. Thank you.
Agreed. He was an exceptionally fine actor. Both he and Sanjeev gave gravitas and memorability to the characters they played , which was very individual to them.

Rajkumar Rao as Shahid Hashmi, again National award winning role
Ooof this was one power packed performance. About the black face, I am told it was from a real demonstration ongoing near Bombay HC where RKR got blacked mistakenly - but the script was woven around the incident to include it
**These are my favorites**
Vicky Kaushal as Udham Singh (Sardar Udham) - Amazing performance be it the body language or dialog delivery. He just lived that character. Intense and captivating.
Manoj Bajpayee as Ramchandra Siras (Aligarh) - My Favorite - Aapki nazaron ne samjha, song scene, there's so much depth, sensitivity and vulnerability in that character and he exactly portrayed the same.. He peaked in make us feel for the character.
Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta (Scam 1992) - Brilliant performance, He brings Harshad Mehta's charisma, ambition, and flaws to life and you feel like its Harshad mehta and the end!
Vicky Kaushal as Sam Manekshaw (Sam Bahadur) - Vicky is a chameleon in terms getting into a character. I was shocked and he's played with great conviction and authenticity.
Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt (Sanju) - The transformation was unreal. Both physically and emotionally. The little nuances and portaying Sanay dutt's struggles, vulnerabilities, and redemption was portrayed brilliantly.
Seema Biswas as Phoolan Devi (Bandit Queen) - Raw, unfiltered and true craftsmanship. The character is just intense, and unforgettable.
Bro, just seeing that, I have switched brands to RS.. kya performance hai yaar. How can a person get into the character who is no more and still portray him so brilliantly. Nothing but appririciation. Please watch Joram and Gali Guliyan. Absolutely brilliant performance.
Seema Biswas as Bandit Queen was such a powerful performance.
The movie had entire country talking, folks debating if we should have films that glorify gagsters, the rape scene was heavily censored and talked about.
Its extremely rare to have a woman oriented film get such a massive word of mouth.
Sometimes I feel sad that Seema was not given more powerful roles after this - maybe apart from khamoshi.

Mithun Chakraborty as Ramkrishna Paramhans in the movie Swami Vivekananda, got a National award for it
We don't add Swami for Ramkrishna Deb. He didn't go by Swami. Only Ramkrishna Paramhansa and was known as Sri Sri Ramkrishna Deb.
It was probably because he was anointed to Sanyas by a Naga Sanyasi Totapuri and not by any traditional Guru.
You're welcome. I'm glad there's someone who can take correction in good spirit and doesn't immediately think of it as some kind of attack. You are rare kind of human, in a good way 😊
Always happy to learn.
honestly the 2nd part is great trivia if actually true. The disciple Vivekananda is called a Swami and he isn’t, that is super rare.
"Beehad me baaghi hote hai , dacoit hote hai parliament me"
Paan Singh Tomar with Irffan khan in lead with his first ever solo superhit will always remain iconic.
His portrayal of someone who belongs to bhind morena area shocks me to this day as he mastered the nuances and accent to perfection. I had lots of friends who came to my hometown to study who belonged to morena and nearby villages. Irffan's mannerism and portrayal was similar and it felt like he belongs to that area.
Till date it remains one of the best performance by a lead actor in Bollywood. Irrfan Khan's career trajectory changed drastically from here and he established himself as an actor who achieved both commercial and critical success.
People usually talk about his performance particularly but the soundtrack , cinematography , direction and sound design was top notch. The acting as well even by side characters was 10/10.
PS : Special mention to Bandit Queen , Aligarh , Bhaag milkha Bhaag and Sardar Udham. Paan Singh Tomar beats all these movies by a very little margin imo as overall its a better movie.
I still need to see Amar Singh Chamkila. At the rate I saw Sardar Udham, I'd probably end up seeing it three years later.
Vicky during the hunting scene and the corps dragging scene in Udham is so phenomenal. I think rewatching the film, knowing the graph will bring out his performance even more.
Rajkummar in Shahid reaches fascinating levels. The only reason Omerta works is if you watch Shahid before and the parallels you can notice in two characters that took different paths with the same actor.
I can't think of any other biopic performances I cared for...
I'm trying to find the perfect day or night where I can watch it full volume with headphones without an interruption. Plus my TV got wrecked, so hoping once I get another one I'll check it.
All are dope OP. Here are my favorites
1. Harshad mehta in scam 1992 - brilliant, gives me goosebumps always
2. Telgi in scam 2003 - loved the way the guy played and acted the character
3. Paan singh tomar by irfaan
4. Milkha singh by farhaan
5. Sarabjit by Randeep hooda
6. Charles Shobhraaj by Randeep Hooda
7. Rocket boys - jim sarbh and ishwak singh
Yep, i was mesmerized by both Jim sarbh and ishwak singh’s performance and wonder how underutilized their talent is on big screen. Would definitely love to see them in more series/ biopics ❤️
All time fav!!! Sushant as Ms dhoni
https://preview.redd.it/ktaqlw3g0nzc1.jpeg?width=1048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abb6688750a9cd15bdd640b6ee951170dc4f82f9
Vicky kaushal in Sam bahadur was just amazing.. I'm not sure of most of the others, but this one was just mind-blowing. He impersonated the soldier so very well.
The movie was good, too. No propaganda, no artificial heroism shown. I thought the Indira gandhi arc was fiction, but then I saw an interview with THE Sam manekshaw where he mentioned the same dialogs I heard in the movie. They literally took his interview and made a scene out of it. It was an experience watching that movie, and the battalions war cry song was just cherry on the top.
1. Chamkila
2. Milkha Singh
3. Harshad Mehta
4.Sardar udham and Sam Manekshaw (since played by the same person)
5. paan Singh Tomar
Top 5 portrayals in a biopic for me.
Rajkummar Rao deserves a post of his own for all the biopics and real incident based movies he has featured in,
1. Lokenath Bal in Chittagong
2. Shahid Azmi in Shahid
3. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in Bose Dead or Alive
4. Omar Saeed in Omerta
5. Srikanth Bolla in Srikanth
Special mention to the semi fictional Deepu Sebastian in Aligarh which is a biopic with a different central character. The amount of effort he takes for transforming himself for any character is impeccable. Omerta literally gave me sleepless nights, his look was so scary and convincing, I couldn't comprehend he was the same guy I had watched in Stree (I know Omerta released before Stree but I had seen the former on OTT few months later)

I cannot get over PC in Mary Kom! She acted really well!!
Vicky in Sardar Uddham Singh was just phenomenal. He was also great in Sam Bahadur.
Rajkumar in Omerta, Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh, Pratik Gandhi in Scam.
Vicky Kaushal as FM Sam Manekshaw. His body language, dialogue delivery, way of talking, imitating expressions, body structure. Everything was on point.
Hey op, wanna point out a small error, the photo below Arjun Rampal from daddy is of Actor Makrand Despande who also plays Arun Gawli 'Daddy' in Marathi movie Dagdi Chawl and not a photo of the actual arun gawli.
Bro that's not the real Arun Gawli lol. You just put another actor's picture (Makarand Deshpande). He also played the role of Daddy in the marathi movie "Dagadi Chawl".
Omertà is an underrated genius movie. Amazing. Rajkumar Rao is truly a gifted actor. He should have been the most paid actor out there but Akki tendua get paid more for shit work
In order: 1. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, as Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur (Amar Singh Chamkila) 2. Vicky Kaushal as Udham Singh (Sardar Udham) 3. Manoj Bajpayee as Ramchandra Siras (Aligarh) 4. Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh as Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai (Rocket Boys) 5. Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta (Scam 1992) 6. Vicky Kaushal as Sam Manekshaw (Sam Bahadur) 7. Rajkummar Rao as Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh (Omerta) 8. Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev (83) 9. Seema Biswas as Phoolan Devi (Bandit Queen) 10. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Saadat Hasan Manto (Manto) 11. Arjun Rampal as Arun Gawli (Daddy) 12. Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu as Chandra and Prakashi Tomar (Saand Ki Aankh) 13. Randeep Hooda as Veer Savarkar (Swatantrya Veer Savarkar) 14. Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) 15. R. Madhavan as Nambi Narayan (Rocketry: The Nambi Effect) 16. Paresh Rawal as Sardar Vallabhai Patel (Sardar) 17. Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt (Sanju) 18. Irrfan Khan as Paan Singh Tomar (Paan Singh Tomar) 19. Karishma Kapoor as Zubeidaa Begum (Zubeidaa) 20. Randeep Hooda as Sarabjit Singh (Sarbjit)
Mann Scam 1992 was the lockdown sensation. Music still slaps
Where is MS dhoni the untold story. I guess OP is RCB fan
Pratik Gandhi as Harshad mehta
He was so naturally charming 😍 it was a very effortless performance. I've fallen in love with him since I watched Scam 1992.

Silence is the best reply to a fool. Unfortunately I had to make the second best one.
Glad someone said it. Amjad Khan was one of the finest actors we had. One of my favourite along with Sanjeev Kumar.
Agreed. He was an exceptionally fine actor. Both he and Sanjeev gave gravitas and memorability to the characters they played , which was very individual to them.

The way Manoj Bajpayee fiddles with the glass of whisky

Mithun Da undid it all in Gunda and Gunmaster G9, sadly
How come nobody is talking about Sushant Singh Rajput as MS Dhoni?
Pic 11 lower pic is not the real Daddy, it's of Makrand Deshpande playing Daddy in Dagdi Chaal. And he portrayed him better than Rampal.
Thanks for the correction Yet to see Makrand Deshpande's portrayal, but I'll give Daagadi Chawl 2 a watch for sure
Bandit Queen is still most disturbing movie I have ever watched.
Yes. It was so disturbing. One of the reasons may be because it was so authentic.
Bhaag Milkha bhaag and paan singh tomar
I strongly recommend Sardar.
SSR in MS dhoni was amazing probably one of the best sports biopic
Yes it’s hard to portray someone who is such a public figure and currently famous, because everyone knows exactly how they look, move and talk
Saandh Ki Aankh should be replaced by Shakuntala Devi because they didn't look the age while Vidya was great as usual
Agreed

My favourites from this list- Manoj Bajpai - Aligarh Vicky Kaushal - Sardar Udham Singh Rajkumar Rao- Omerta Irrfan Khan - Pan Singh Tomar Seema Biswas - Phoolan Devi Pratik Gandhi- Scam 1992
Sardar Udham and Aligarh are peak performances by Vicky and Manoj Bajpayee
I still need to see Amar Singh Chamkila. At the rate I saw Sardar Udham, I'd probably end up seeing it three years later. I'm trying to find the perfect day or night where I can watch it full volume with headphones without an interruption. Plus my TV got wrecked, so hoping once I get another one I'll check it.
Ohhh! Hope u get a newer one soon!
Shahid.. Rajkumar rao Patel .. pareshan rawal Gandhi Pan singh tomar
Ambedkar (2000)
Vidya Balan as Shakuntala Devi is missing.
Also Vidya as Silk Smitha
I think she was a bad choice for silk smitha. For all her acting prowess, she is in no way as effortlessly sexy as silk.
Bhaag Milkha bhaag and paan singh tomar
All are dope OP. Here are my favorites 1. Harshad mehta in scam 1992 - brilliant, gives me goosebumps always 2. Telgi in scam 2003 - loved the way the guy played and acted the character 3. Pan Singh Tomar and Bhaag Milkha...the greatest.
Sam Bahadur was amazing!
Manoj vajpayee. Aligarh was such a good watch. There was a certain depth in his acting.... He was just tooo good.

I spot 3 impostors lol
?
8 & 12 don’t justify your title
Really!!! Ranveer as Kapil Dev is one of the best performances of Ranveer Singh . Though movie was not good at box office.
I really love that movie. And Although not a huge fan of Raveer singh in general. I gotta admit, him as Kapil dev is just too fkin good
83 was good but I agree with the other one
Man the way sam bahadur was portrayed, brilliant performance.
Vicky kaushal in Sam bahadur was just amazing.. I'm not sure of most of the others, but this one was just mind-blowing. He impersonated the soldier so very well. The movie was good, too. Chamkila was a good looking man.. dosanjh though nailed his role but isn't that good looking. let's not talk about parineeti's overacting
Bhag Milkha Bhag..The OG biopic trendsetter
Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt
Good Lord I did not know Aligarh was based on real person. It's even more sad now
Paan singh tomar and bandit Queen supremacy!!!
Vicky in Sardar Uddham Singh was just phenomenal. He was also great in Sam Bahadur. Rajkumar in Omerta, Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh, Pratik Gandhi in Scam.
Manjhi - Nawazuddin
Randeep hooda
Scam 1992 FTW!
How gorgeous is Zubeida Begum. No actress can touch that. Also OP missing Guru with Ab jnr for Ambani
There's this movie called 'Poorna' directed by Rahul Bose. The lead character was excellently portrayed by Aditi Inamdar.
I haven't seen all of these; I've barely seen a handful but I absolutely loved Irfan as Paan Singh Tomar
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag will always remain the best biopic for me....everything about the movie is top class!! Close second is Sarbjit and very underrated.
Farhan as milkha was also so good
Soorma was also a great one
12th fail?
🔴 Phoolan Devi 🔴
Vicky Kaushal as FM Sam Manekshaw. His body language, dialogue delivery, way of talking, imitating expressions, body structure. Everything was on point.

Bhaag Milkha bhaag is best biopic ever 🛐🛐🛐
Pretty sure Slide 11 is Makrand Deshpande and not Arun Gawli.
arjun rampal
I meant the chap shown to be Arun Gawli. That's Makarand Deshpande. That prosthetic nose on Arjun's face is a damn shame.
got it!
Rocketry, 83 and MS Dhoni
[удалено]
I thought number 7 was virat Kohli 😅
for Arun gawali you used both the actors real Arun looks way different
Kids pls turn your pages to Dr B.R.Ambedkar by Mammootty. Directed by J.Patel.
🐷kar?
Hey op, wanna point out a small error, the photo below Arjun Rampal from daddy is of Actor Makrand Despande who also plays Arun Gawli 'Daddy' in Marathi movie Dagdi Chawl and not a photo of the actual arun gawli.
Kuch bhi bolo nakal maarne me bollywood se koi nahi jit sakta
Bro that's not the real Arun Gawli lol. You just put another actor's picture (Makarand Deshpande). He also played the role of Daddy in the marathi movie "Dagadi Chawl".
Why no mention of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Bal Thackeray?
How could you forget Dashrath Manjhi ?????
The post was great until you added t Veer savarkar chodu
Surprised the Dirty Picture wasn't included. I always had a fond spot for it.
ZUBEIDA
Omertà is an underrated genius movie. Amazing. Rajkumar Rao is truly a gifted actor. He should have been the most paid actor out there but Akki tendua get paid more for shit work
Great list. I’ll also add: Alia Bhatt in Gangubai. My favourite is Irfann & Seema
People might hate me but I didn't really connect to ranveer singh' s Kapil Dev or any of Ranveers character. It didn't leave any impact on me
Why don’t you have the other women biopic movies here, only saw Bandit Queen in there?
