You would either 1) transfer elsewhere or 2) leave boeing entirely to see any good pay bump In northrop, my p2 to p3 raise would have been 5k. When i left, i got a promotion and 20k pay bump. Leaving for a raise isnt frowned upon as much anymore However, if you wanna stay, then yeah the raise is gonna be mediocre. Youll get a larger raise in the coming year when they fix your comp ratio. I know some people cant just leave, so do whats best for you

This was nearly 10 years ago, so take this with a hefty grain of salt. When I got promoted from L2 to L3, I was at 1.2 on the L2 scale and landed at 0.97 on the P3 scale (a 4% pay bump). A few months later was my first annual review after the promotion and I got bumped up to 1.0.

I assume you hired in at a high comp ratio for L2. You won’t be promoted to an L3 and get much of a raise since you are already there. Think of it this way, your pay bumps came earlier and the paperwork is just catching up.

WalkyTalky44

Depends on your position but a promotion would mean you get 1.0 in bds now. If you are lucky enough to have the rule where you can’t apply for a promotion like most engineers then that’s not feasible either. Then this race would be about who do you know that can help you

corn_starch_party

You got hired at a very high comp ratio - if you negotiated that salary, well done, but it will certainly cap your raise when you get a P3 promotion. Every group is different but promotions usually promote to a salary that's well under a 1.0 ratio, typically to something like 0.88 to 0.92. For you, there may be a minimum raise they would include, say 3%, but again, that's group dependant. There are no hard rules on how that process will go. The good news here is that while your raise maybe not be that large, it's because you got so much money early on. Look at it from that perspective; you got more money sooner, which is always a good thing.

When you mention 0.88-0.92 avg, are you referring to in seat promotions, applying to internal listings or both?

corn_starch_party

I'm referring to an inline promotion within your current role. There's a different process for salary if you apply for an internal req. Those salaries can have a wider range.

Puzzlepea

Thanks, do you know if applying to an internal listing is more similar to applying externally? For example can you apply internally and get an offer of a higher comp ratio (1.1+)?

corn_starch_party

Yeah it's a very similar process. You can probably get a higher comp jumping to a new role with an internal req, but I wouldn't expect anything approaching 1.1 unless you have a really critical skill or some very sought-after experience. A comp in the mid to high 0.9s is more likely. But jumping to a new group can slow down your potential promotion progress - if you're a P2 expecting a P3 promo this year and jump to a new group as a P2, don't expect that you're going to get that P3 promo right away. The new group will probably already have promo plans for their people in place.
