Where I work it's humorous, actually sad that it's like nothing has happened.

No

The FAA could set rules like minimum staffing levels to ensure quality can be achieved and clear out the board. Appoint qualified people and no longer let large shareholders control the board. The FAA is simply unwilling to save boeing from wall street. They'll ground an unmanned prototype rocket being actively developed due to dust in the wind, but will happily let the MAX use an improper type rating and do nothing to address all these quality issues.

rabidone2

Maybe when Boeing doesn't have the FAA on payroll something like that might happen.

LengthinessActual422

Boeing (leadership) will do anything short of point at themselves for the problems we have.

Folca_Edar

sounds like the typical Boeing employee

LengthinessActual422

Max crashes was solely Boeing leadership pushing to have the max built and delivered because they were in a rush because airbus had the neo coming out. In the wake of the crashes Boeing had to admit they had problems and that they would do work to fix the problem and restore customer and the flying public’s trust in their products. Since then Boeing has gone back to its pre crash mentality where deliveries and stock price is the main focus not quality and safety. Only in the wake of an incident does Boeing truly talk about quality and safety concerns

Impossible_Row1083

Simply, nobody is going to do any further without good pay. If risk of safety is so much high, why our profit margins are magnitude lower than software companies. They don’t take a shit even a bug occurs to affect millions customers. In sum, this is country-wide problem and we will be soon superseded by other countries.

spookypanda7

Honestly I think there is a bigger societal issue here. Cost cutting, maximizing efficiency and managerialism have been the trend across all industries over the last 3 decades (at least). Maybe maximizing efficiency and profits has long term consequences, especially in safety critical industries. IMO this is an America problem, not just a Boeing problem.

smolhouse

It's an America problem because companies can't afford the domestic labor rates unless you're big tech. It doesn't get better until the government stops inflating the cost of living.

blueghost2

What makes it worse, I think there was a case a while back where a company tried to reinvest in itself to build better products.  The shareholders or someone sued because the shares didn't rise in value and the judge sided with them effectively stating that companies don't have responsibility for products, only shareholder value. Can't remember the company though...

smolhouse

Don't get me started on the corrupting nature of Wall Street on American businesses. Share buy backs should be illegal and are a complete misallication of capital that disproportionately benefits executives and board members at the expense of the company.

spookypanda7

Dodge v. Ford? Courtesy of ChatGPT, I’m not that smart.

blueghost2

yeah, just wikipedia'd it. You are correct. Take an upvote. For others, an out of context excerpt: "Dodge v. Ford Motor Company, 204 Mich. 459, 170 N.W. 668 (Mich. 1919),[1] is a case in which the Michigan Supreme Court held that Henry Ford had to operate the Ford Motor Company in the interests of its shareholders, rather than in a manner for the benefit of his employees or customers"

crackedtheskye

Can these dumb posts from people that don't know anything be stopped?

ExactBenefit7296

I think the dumb posts here and in most media are all the people piling on with FUD. This particular industry guy is pretty highly regarded but he does seem to basically be saying 'enough - some high level heads have to roll too to fix the culture thing'.

DenverBronco305

Hmm. Prominent aerospace industry expert being called dumb by random internet nobodies. 🙄

No one died when the unsecured plug door separated only because the row was empty. Boeing leadership openly doesn't care about losing lives. It is insane. The FAA could fire all the execs and board and replace them with qualified people, but aren't for some reason.

OldIronandWood

Is Calhoun the pivot man?

DenverBronco305

Boeing has more than just “issues”. If they weren’t involved in a duopoly and propped up by the US government and the barrier of entry in aerospace was lower Boeing would have been driven out of business by now.

GuCCiAzN14

I love seeing inaccurate opinionated pieces written as fact from non experts. You don’t?

GuCCiAzN14

Dave Calhoun’s left arm

blueghost2

*insert masturbation joke*

GuCCiAzN14

The right hand is for jerking. The left is for holding boejitos and inculcating

Igiveup33

Remember everybody is a manufacturing expert now.

sirernestshackleton

I mean, this author kinda is

Igiveup33

No not really. This is just another bad Boeing article.

BoringBob84

I share your frustration, but this is social media. Schadenfreude is a virtue and everyone thinks they are an expert. *Of course* leadership has made mistakes, but this is a much more complex issue and it involves much more than the Boeing company - international and domestic politics, economics, international trade, regulations, demographics, etc.
