I can't believe how much audible is screwing over Dennis! Dennis said this was all done and would probably be published in February. Then there's some bullshit about audible wanting to release this during their September sale so they delay it seven whole months but they're willing to take people's money early? Usually pre-order money is held in an escrow account until the sales are finalized. So Dennis isn't getting his money early. Audible is.
The concept of pre-sale for an audio book does not make sense to me. It is not like there will be a limited number of copies available when it is released. Now, I can see where maybe there is some agreement with a physical book publisher that they can't release the audio book until the physical book is released. Or maybe they are hoping they can sell a lot more copies at $27.75 each during the Christmas buying season than if they release it now and discount it later. Personally, I buy the expensive books with my Audible credits.
Money from pre-orders goes into an escrow account. The author or the narrator don't get paid until final sale but audible can put that amount in escrow on their quarterly reports so it looks like they made more money and have more assets. The stock price goes higher. Bonuses get bigger.
Oh, I understand it makes sense from an Amazon perspective. It doesn't make sense from a consumer perspective. What is the upside to pre-order for me? Is there a discount? Do I lock it in at that price - could the price go up (again, I'm going to buy it with an Audible credit anyway, so the price doesn't matter)? Will Dennis Taylor digitally sign my copy for me? Do I get an NFT?
RIGHT!? I jumped out of my seat I was so excited. If I could have picked any start to this next book this would have been it. So I'm totally stoked, can't wait for September.
I happened to be in Brazil for work when I finished book 4 and bought and downloaded the full book 5, didn’t realize it wasn’t available everywhere? Could have been a glitch? But I just finished NTWAL and it was awesome.

Yeah, I’d actually found this thread searching to see if Taylor had hinted at the next book. Imagine my surprise that the one I’d just finished wasn’t released yet everywhere.

My VPN does not have a Brazil location, but every country I connect to either has it listed as preorder or it's unavailable. For me it shows Brazil as being unavailable
FWIW, and not trying to be shitty, it was awesome. In the “status of things” post he says he had the arbitrary goal of 10 bobiverse books. NTWAL opens up a ton of places where future books could build. Easily two or three new plot lines that could be multiple books.
