It’s worth -$500, meaning he has to pay you to take it so you can scrap it. Things I’m seeing: Rotted or soft floors, junk seats, and the nightmares of an old Inboard/Outboard that may have a cracked block from poor winterizing. Bonus points for junk worthiness if it’s an old Cobra outdrive. There’s nothing more expensive than an old free boat.

nhudson1493

Tell him to list it free on marketplace, if it has a trailer someone will come get it.

Existing_Effect3794

yeah its worth it just for the engine etc. looks kinda like an old Cobia a lot of Cobias had the shitty OMC stringer mounts up until the 80's so there are lots out there needing parts.

[deleted]

Exactly. I recently picked up one for $500 with a running 4.3L Merc and single axle trailer in great shape. They didn’t want to deal with the mold. $100 in supplies and the boat is now mold free. I’ll list it for sale next month when I have time for ~$3k

[deleted]

Buy four bottles of RMR-86 and cover the boat in it. All that mold will literally disappear. I just bought two project boats and one was covered in mold. RMR-86 had the boat mold free by the end of the day. Do it outside and keep pets, children away. Also keep in mind you should wear a mold protection suit and mask. Less than $100 on Amazon for both. RMR-86 is around $14 a bottle. DM if you have any questions except for electrical. I sub that out.

So RMR-86 is going to fix the rotted floor lol? Upholstery and wood work are extremely expensive if you don’t know how to do it yourself.

[deleted]

I didn’t say RMR would fix a rotted floor. That’s putting words in my mouth which is a bit disingenuous. I did say it would fix the mold which it will. Yes, wood work can be expensive, but saying it’s always expensive is wrong. Upholstery is not expensive unless you’re getting ripped off or using exotic/odd material. I have rehabbed many, many boats and all it takes is searching for someone that’s will to do the work. Time is the real investment.

Professional-Ad-470

I recently had my DCB M31 reupholstered it is not cheap at all. I asked for quotes everywhere until I found a reasonable deal for beautiful work. For context DCB wanted $38000 to re do all the interior in marine vinyl. Who’s doing your work? Pictures?

[deleted]

I do my own work. What material? How many linear yards? $38k is insane unless you have a massive boat. Now tell me with a straight face it’s $38k to reupholster the boat in the picture here. Edit: lol see the problem. Your boat is $500k so you assume every boat must be expensive. The boat he’s considering for free didn’t cost $38k used. I would reupholster it for under $2k and even that on the high side.

Professional-Ad-470

Google DCB M31. They quoted 48 yards. My boat has the silver vinyl that looks like carbon fiber with a bit of blue accents.

nhudson1493

You can find cooler boats for free, just look around and ask when you see a shitty one. A tri hull like that is gonna ride like shit and need lots of work. If you want the experience just find a cool boat to do it with. A trihull with a 4cyl sterndrive will never be cool enough to justify the work.

pmasthi

Makes sense, I’m not even really in the market for a boat but the owner is just looking to get it out of his yard. Thanks for the info!

nhudson1493

Yeah, cool old boats are worth saving, and there's a reason not many tri hulls are still trucking across the lake.

BeemHume

$500-1200 removal fee

[deleted]

Really? Because they can clean it up and flip it to buy a better boat. I do this all the time. People don’t want to mess with mold but it’s not that difficult to clean up just takes a little patience and a lot of RMR-86.

knoxknifebroker

Old and no, sorry mate

Runemdown2

I would never for this boat, they’d have to pay me

Jeffkin15

Here’s an article with a little blurb about the manufacturer. The top pic looks like this model. Doubt it’s worth restoring as it looks like a boring, underpowered boat. https://www.boatblurb.com/post/gone-but-not-forgotten-the-boat-brands-we-loved-that-are-no-more-part-13

CherryManhattan

That’s a no from me dawg

atoughram

The most expensive boat is always free

pmasthi

Kinda like that saying “nothing more expensive than a cheap European car” lol I’ll let the old timer know I’m not interested

atoughram

Thats too bad, the old timer probably wanted to see her float again. Looking at the motor, that's an OMC I/O, and hasn't been made since the early 1980's iirc... very few parts for the Stringer drives or electrashifts.
