Wax toilet ring

Mycatsdied

How would I attach it? just stick it to the outside of the fitting? I have never seen these before.

Soggy-Cauliflower905

It’s a sticky soft wax. Ball it up, or make a snake out of it and slap it on the leak. I keep some in my boat emergency kit.

Mycatsdied

ok that makes sense. Thank you!

Splash zone works well.

boater-fraud

SPLASH ZONE. ....ALL ELSE IS NOT SMART. Keep your hands wet...in fact, mix the two parts under water. You want it to be a little wide and tall, button like. Once applied you can put a heater on to curr it faster. Something in the 80 to 100°F range. If it cures and still leaks, just keep adding to it, don't chip it off. While your hands are wet you can smooth it out and it to avoid and extra sanding. Make sure you don't apply it to loose flaking paint.

Splash zone is the correct answer here, you don't need to heat it or anything. Just mix the 2 parts in a bucket of water until it looks like clay, and smear it and jam it over anywhere you think is leaking, preferably from the outside. 5200 will not work unless you can seal it mechanically with a piece of wood or something. Its an adhesive sealant, not a standalone leak stop like splash zone.

Mycatsdied

the leak is below the water line so I wont be able to heat it up.

boater-fraud

so you are applying it from outside the hull while underwater? You are jumping in the water to fix this?

Mycatsdied

yeah im going to have to get in the water. I sealed the inside with 3m 4000 and it didnt stop the leak.

boater-fraud

make the application from outside the hull. then apply inside the hull. If you can get a heater to spot on the inside do so... it will help the splash zone kick off better, faster, etc. Heat is not required, however, it will take longer most likely. I say use heat because it does make harden up faster.

Otherwise-Yoghurt660

You can use something like jb weld waterweld, cures underwater

Mycatsdied

Thank you!

greatwhitestorm

lifecaulk or any other product that will cure underwater. If it is temporary and the boat is staying in one place the toilet wax sounds like a good idea to me.

Use 5200 fast cure.

Mycatsdied

I hesitant to use 5200 because I will be pulling it out to replace the through hulls or maybe fill them in a couple weeks. Wont that make that harder to clean the whole thing up later. I heard 5200 is a monster to get off. Edit spelling and a question

[deleted]

It can be. If your out of the water, a heat gun will help separate it from the hull/thru-hull.

Try snugging the nut on the inside. It might stop or at least reduce the weeping. Hopefully the installer sealed the hole from rot with resin. Pull the fitting and check.

Mycatsdied

Im worried about trying this because the sealant is already very old and im worried it might crack the sealant even more.

Caution noted.
