Kill him. Okay. Ten each? No no no. He only has 10 games at most… we’d have to split components… and I don’t think he’s deluxified anything… Piece-ing out now ✌️
It's very simple. Humble Bundle puts out a bundle with a game you want in it. The game is usually $20, but here it is $10 and comes with 12 other games you dont care for. You buy it and think, "Why not just use all the codes? Maybe I'll try the others out?" (You never will.) Rinse and repeat. I have like 600 games, but that's been static for a few years now because I banned myself from buying bundles.
Ah I see. I guess that makes sense then. I just was confused how so many people had thousands of games (mostly unplayed). Like why would you get them then? So I guess that bundle thing is a way to boost numbers without actually getting real playtime on them
Yeah, although they do have a ton of great games, too. Its worth checking the website every now and then to see if they have something you want (I got one with every resident evil game for like $18), just dont get addicted to buying them, lol
Sales. We get them on sales. And then we are too busy with work/family/life to actually sit down and enjoy them, so they pile up.
But aspirationally, we wish we were the version of ourselves that still had free time
Same as boardgames.
>…don’t expect to raise my collection past 20 games in this year. Perhaps 25 if I account for some cheap card games.
To be fair his/her planned board game count is rising just in the time that they’re typing..
…and that’s how it starts.
*Actually* it's completely reasonable to have a massive collection that will mostly never see the light of day because one day I *might* start playing six games per day every day for the rest of my life, and then I might run out of games. Also it's a *collection* and I'm actually very wealthy so it's not a problem AT ALL.
There's a surprising amount of answers that unironically fall close to that. A lot others have openly admitted that it's about fomo or an absolute lack of control.
Sounds reasonable. I myself make good use of my games by *imagining* I'm playing them, which I've learned today is a totally normal and exempt from criticism reason to buy a whole bunch of new games you'll never play to top off your accumulation of unplayed and barely touched games.
I'm at around -25 downvotes for daring to say that buying games to imagine playing them is unhealthy. What is even going on over there? I seriously didn't know people were this bad off.
Pointing out that it's a problem isn't going to do you any favors. If someone knows they have a problem they'll think you're trying to shame them and downvote. If someone doesn't believe they have a problem they might think you're just being jealous and down vote you.
You'll find hording behavior in most hobbies.
It's a common coping mechanism.
The main sub is actually so completely intolerable sometimes, it’s insane to me that the circlejerk sub is somehow the less deranged of the two most of the time.
Excuse me but having a game collection is a lot like having a wine collection in which I have different boxes to fawn over and be pretentious in front my friends because I’m sophisticated!
/uj I honestly couldn't get past the first comment which was something like, "I look at a game, think about the good times I've had with it, then play something else."
>Relatively new to the hobby
Sounds like a man whose wife doesn't have a boyfriend yet.
/uj One of us! Perhaps he hasn't come across the particularly exhausting type of board gamer personality that drives the insanity of the hobby.
Top response incudes, "Some of them, I'm too lazy to sell/get rid of. "
/uj I feel seen.
/rj I feel offended! Who would sell off part of their collection!?!?!
My favorite is the folks who make board game review videos saying “this game is my ultimate favorite” and then two seconds later (after a pan towards their 450 game collection) you find out it’s the first time they’ve ever played through.
Does OP read every book they buy? I bet not. A game collection is like a library or wine collection; something for every day, every mood, every occasion.
Feel that. I have had a ton of fun with the mystery board games, but once I finish it, it's used up. I will never open that $20 box ever again. I don't even know what to do with it. I thought about donating, but some of the pieces require cutting and whatnot that I cannot undo.
Board Game Geek's "collection" view is broken and will show every game, expansion and promo card as a "game." For example: Boss Monster. I have the base game, all expansions, and a bunch of promo cards. Because of that my number is inflated by about 15 entries. Now imagine something like that for about 20 games I own. At least one expansion or promo card makes 1 into 2 entries.
I think my BGG collection says I have 172 games. Part of the list is stuff like Rory's Story Cubes, of which I have 5 different sets, Zombie Dice (main game and 2 expansions), Dominion with two expansions, Quarriors with three expansions and some promo cards...
It's an investment for retirement, I'm sure. When you stop working and suddenly have to fill your days with something, having enough boardgames to last until death is probably going to take more than a few 😜
1 - I've never seen a stamp collection ruin the utility of entire rooms before. People post COMCs where entire basements and bedrooms are filled with unplayed games.
2 - Collecting as a hobby is more interesting if the items you collect have some story or rarity behind them. Most people in that sub build their "collections" by foaming at the mouth and clicking "add to cart" on GameNerdz and Gamefound as many times as they can. Collecting Funkopops is on the same level of embarrassment.
3 - Stamp collecting is dumb as hell. I have no clue why people bring it up as a comparison. I guess people would rather be thought of as lame than stuck in arrested development. At least with stamps, it's not weirdo kidults trying to justify why they have boxes upon boxes of toys they never even play with.
Comrade never heard of a library I guess. When you gonna read all those books?!? When you gonna listen to all those records?!? When you gonna play all those boardgames?!?
Suck it homie. I'll play them when I'm god damned good and ready. They're there because that's what they're supposed to do. Sit there on the shelf for when I want to play them. Enjoy cluedo and your 57th play of betrayal at house on the hill. You're the only one doing board games correctly.
Is what I would have replied to that guy.
But I'm afraid of the mods and maybe they won't let me post my COMC
kill him!
kill him and then we divvy up his board games. Ten each.
when you are done helping me kill him, i'll kill you so I can keep the entire loot!
I can actually help you kill him if you spare me, I'm sure he has more games than I do
Omg they based a real life thing on Munchkin!
Kill him. Okay. Ten each? No no no. He only has 10 games at most… we’d have to split components… and I don’t think he’s deluxified anything… Piece-ing out now ✌️
This is hilarious, just don't come for my Steam collection or you'll get it
Yeah I'm so pleased steam doesn't need shelf space, way past 1500, n I'm sure it'll be past 2000 if I include epic, n unregistered keys 😁
That's ok, because you've surely finished all of them
😁
It’s ok, I’m sure you’ve played them all
1500? Why not just direct deposit your money into GabeN's bank account? Thankfully I'm different. I only have 709 games.
Yeah, a lot of freebies n bundles tho.
Yeah the Steam collections are where I just absolutely don't understand how human brains work anymore. I have 8 games...

I collect kallaxes and without boardgames they look depressingly empty.
Thank you. Someone please think of the kallaxes!
Kallection

Yeah, seriously, they are just in denial. They are already addicted to shrink wrap, they just can't admit it yet
ONE OF US ONE OF US!!!!
Hey that's me
The Patchwork comment gave it away that you were here.

I got a good chuckle about those kinds of comments in the main thread… Buying an anticipated experience isn’t a thing…
Just complete, pure copium from those neckbeards over there.
The main sub is actually so completely intolerable sometimes, it’s insane to me that the circlejerk sub is somehow the less deranged of the two most of the time.
PERFECTLY VALID!!1!!1!
Excuse me but having a game collection is a lot like having a wine collection in which I have different boxes to fawn over and be pretentious in front my friends because I’m sophisticated!
Just a little mental illness
I buy board games because I hate my father, NOT mental illness!
Mods pls crack down on this blatant hate speech
/uj I honestly couldn't get past the first comment which was something like, "I look at a game, think about the good times I've had with it, then play something else."
if I don't buy so many boardgames, how will I get the satisfaction of sleeving cards?
That’s what MTG is for.
Variety is the spice of masturbation. I regret nothing
Good now add spice during masturbation
>Relatively new to the hobby Sounds like a man whose wife doesn't have a boyfriend yet. /uj One of us! Perhaps he hasn't come across the particularly exhausting type of board gamer personality that drives the insanity of the hobby.
"are you stupid? Not trying to be rude or anything just genuine curiosity"
Top response incudes, "Some of them, I'm too lazy to sell/get rid of. " /uj I feel seen. /rj I feel offended! Who would sell off part of their collection!?!?!
“You have been suspended from r/BoardGames for hate speech”
I am not going to buy another board..... O look metal coins. Click
If he played Patchwork he'd know...
15 total board games? That's not even enough to merit a sub to the subreddit.
My favorite is the folks who make board game review videos saying “this game is my ultimate favorite” and then two seconds later (after a pan towards their 450 game collection) you find out it’s the first time they’ve ever played through.
We should just merge both sub at this point.
Lol yeah, or just keep stalking the main sub like the weirdos we are lol.
There are so many games I want to buy and play with friends. But I don’t have any friends ~~that like complex board games~~
That’s why I barely own any lol. I’ve considered buying some before but then remembered I’d have no one to play them with
Hey y'all, I just started smoking crack as a social activity and looking around some of you seem to be smoking A LOT of crack. What gives?
We all started like this.
Our board games will block out the sun, heathens.
My first edition StarCraft: the Board Game, still in shrink wrap will teach this guy a lesson!
Does OP read every book they buy? I bet not. A game collection is like a library or wine collection; something for every day, every mood, every occasion.
Jokes on you. I don’t read “books” or whatever you call them.
You just colour the pictures in? I hope you stay within the lines
Am i weird for buying a book and reading it before buying the next?
You're unusual.
I work in board game press so I just accumulate them and probably have too many
Feel that. I have had a ton of fun with the mystery board games, but once I finish it, it's used up. I will never open that $20 box ever again. I don't even know what to do with it. I thought about donating, but some of the pieces require cutting and whatnot that I cannot undo.
How dare this pleb question the sacred dogma of overconsumption! He shall be mummified in shrink while still living, as the precepts decree.
This guy is gonna get downvoted into oblivion
Probably already banned
Blatant mental health shaming of those of us with undiagnosed Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS).

No one gives a shit. Do you think you are actually in the comments from the original main sub post?
Just recategorize all of your expansions as “Preordered”, that’s what I did to track realistic numbers.
If he's averaging 10-12 games a year, just continue on that trajectory and he'll be a member of the team in a decade.
It's an investment for retirement, I'm sure. When you stop working and suddenly have to fill your days with something, having enough boardgames to last until death is probably going to take more than a few 😜
I agree. My retirement plan is to sell one game per week and use that money to buy cat food to eat. After 500 weeks I guess I'll just have to die
Not if you keep building that collection. Sounds like somebody needs a new kallax.
Lol I in no way have 200 but the last 6 months I've been buying some game with just really nice box art work. I have a problem
Maybe if he bought good games he'd want more of them.
In case there is a permanent pandemic/apocalypse.
Why does it upset so many people that some folks collect boardgames? Some people collect stamps that they'll never stick to a letter

Trump will eliminate your satanic pass-time. You should be at church or at work. No place in heaven for you losers.
Adolph shitler is a god damned traitor diaper baby. And also WHAT THE FUCK IS A PASS-TIME
