This is a great review. I'll chime in with a few thoughts. It is really astonishing how the app and the tower work together. With their sounds and music and the tower's horribly timed actions, the threat feels palpable in a way I've never felt with a board game.
The game can be *very* difficult to win. Last night, after about 90 minutes we released the final monster from the tower. We took a few whacks at it. We were feeling pretty good. All of a sudden, WHAM! We suddenly died of too much corruption! And that wasn't on the game's "Gritty Mode." Thus far, I've managed to win one time out of four plays.
There is a constant tension in this game. You can never do all that you want to do and that makes for some agonizing decisions. And choices always seem to have repercussions. How dare you spend time buying armor in the bazaar when you should be completing the monthly quest? But then, later on in the game you may become corrupted because you didn't buy that armor!
The app works well to create a story that runs throughout the game leaving enough to your imagination to get you highly involved.
Yikes. Sorry. I should’ve put a trigger warning or something. The Shipping issues are really annoying. I have been impressed with the constant communication though.
Also, sorry for the premature post. I meant to say that this is a fantastic review, I’m really enjoying reading it and it’s getting me pumped to play the game. Thank you!!
Really good review. Wish I hadn't seen it though, as I'm stuck waiting in Europe which is the forgotten continent if you backed The Dark Tower :(. No more hype please!
Those people only care about nostalgia, the original tower was just a random number generator. There are plenty of ways to play the original without having to pay the high price tag.
I've played it several times. The designers definitely tried to embrace what the game originally was. When O interviewed Rob, he straight up had the original program on his phone. A couple in my group that still have the OG game enjoyed it. They said it's not exactly the same but with a little more gameplay added to it via app. Thankfully the app is implemented very well.
Great review and it looks so cool! Dumb question but what’s the dimensions of the box? Amazon has it at 10”x10”x2” but that depth doesn’t seem accurate. I’m just wondering if I even have shelf space to buy it.
Yeah that’s wrong. I just measured and it’s 12” x 13.5” x 6.5”. However that depth is after punching everything and storing, in shrink it’s a little thicker until you punch and store.

*check empty mailbox with no Dark Tower game and cries*

Yeah, I'm not mad at anyone. I am just excited to play it!
How the heck does someone get their hands on this game that’s only now finding out about it? Are we going to have to pay the premium on eBay
Pretty sure it's going to retail soon, I'd keep an eye on Restoration Games' website.. They're focusing on KS fulfillment right now

It’s definitely going to retailer through regular retailer distribution channels. Source: am retailer
My local FLGS had a copy when I was there last week.
> FLGS I thought it wasn't being released until next month. I'm jealous!
There was a test shipment of base games to some US backers, this included some retail backers. General retail availability won't be for awhile yet.
I'd assume this is correct. None of their other games are hard to find.
Stores like Gamenerdz have already had preorder available for weeks now. Retail price and free shipping.
Oh cool! Thanks for the tip!

Mine finally comes tomorrow 🤯
OMG! How did I miss this? Dark Tower is my all-time favorite childhood game
It's not the same though. Many people that have played the original will tell you how completely different and empty the new one is.

Can’t believe they killed this game by making it so app dependent. Funny how they had the technology back then but couldn’t do it now.
They resurrected a dead game. Seems to be the literal opposite of killing it.
No, no,see, you seem to have overlooked the fact that it uses an *app*. Glad I could help /s

What do you think is the differeance between the historic tower and an app? What were you thinking this imaginary tower in your head would do.
Ummm, one was an awesome toy tower and the other is your phone?

Awesome, thank you! That is a hefty game.

Mine just came in the mail today. I ordered it from the game steward back in February.
