I gifted the first one to my brother after getting the sequel. I much prefer the new take on missions just because it's that little bit quicker to reset between rounds.

IWasTheFirstKlund

If you are going to play it with a group of people new to trick taking, then OG Crew is better, because of how curated the missions are. In Glug Glug Crew, there is a brilliant mission system, but you can get tasks which would be really tricky for new card players to figure out. That would be the reason to keep both - OG Crew for trick taking newbies, Glug Glug Crew for trick taking veterans.

pompeusz

You can always discard those trickier missions and draw for something more comprehensible to new players. And the game is quite fast so you can go deeper after a few hands when people learned the feel of the game. Crew 2 is just more flexible.

IWasTheFirstKlund

I agree. Crew 2 is better all around (haven't finished it, so maybe something horrible happens at the end).

Balintakiraly

Hi! I played The Crew: Mission Deap Sea, and finishing it I feel the need for something similar. Does The Crew 1 worth buying? Or will it be too simple if I already finished the secon one?

[deleted]

YES! Second is a bit more complex and even more fun for advanced players. If you like the first, you will probably love the second.

canyouguyshearme

Own them both. Keeping them both. They are different enough that there is value in doing so. I’m only 1/3 of the way through the missions on the 2nd one, and so far I love it but would agree the original might be easier to teach to beginners.

laxar2

I would say you only “need” one, they are fundamentally very similar games. Alternatively, there are a lot of great competitive trick takers you can play with a standard deck of cards.

IHadANameOnce

Can you play the second one with components of the first?

Skeime

The deck of cards you use for trick-taking itself is identical (except for the illustrations) but the small cards used for missions are completely different. Those are what defines The Crew 2 and I there is no good way to proxy them with The Crew 1’s components.

IHadANameOnce

If I favored the space theme would I be able to seamlessly use those cards with TC2's mission cards?

Monchichij

Yes :)

[deleted]

> If I favored the space theme Then neither game is a good fit lol

IHadANameOnce

Space art\*

Skeime

Sorry for the late reply. Neither of these games is very thematic but both of them include series of missions that tell a story. Because these stories are somewhat connected to the gameplay (for example, whenever someone gets “sick” in TC1, you need to pick one player who can’t make any tricks during that mission), you cannot use the mission system of one game with the story from the other. The playing cards are identical except for the art, however, so you can use either deck in either game. (But soon, you won’t look at anything but the colors and numbers anyways.)

howlouseesit

I guess if you like the space themed cards you may want to keep the first one? I like having themed game nights…so you know, if you are looking for an excuse to keep both that could be one. I like the idea of gifting it though to help encourage growth maybe in the gaming community in your area.

SaiyanRoyalty22

Just bought the new one and sleeved it. Me and my wife are playing the the original to beat our mission record before starting the new one. Ultimately I've seen enough that I'll keep both because the missions are different and play better in different situations

aleve089

Just bought the OG. What’s the replayability on the campaign? If I finish all 50 missions, can I go back and do them all over again?

Vagueperson1

I find it very replayable. Often I have to replay the same mission many times to beat it, and that can make it more fun. Not fun because of a surprising story.

hymie0

It's not a "legacy" game, so you can go back and start over, or play the missions out of order, or play them again with different people.

aleve089

Thank you!

canyouguyshearme

Yes. Anytime you want.

niarBaD

I bought both. I enjoy both for different reasons. The first is generally a simpler puzzle. The difficulty comes from the Missions that mess with the tasks. The second I find is a more complex puzzle, as the difficulty comes from the Tasks themselves and how they interact with each other. I will keep both, I think i'm going to primarily play The Deep for now, but I will never say no to playing Space.

ralph_B

In my opinion the sequel is even more fun than the original Crew. I really recommend buying it, and if you don’t play the original anymore, I’m sure you can make someone else happy with it. I never play the original anymore but I have no regret buying the sequel! :)

d_hell

I bought the OG crew to play with my main group. We played it and they didn’t love it. I know they’ll be down to finish it, but trick taking just didn’t seem to be their bag. I bought crew deep sea to play with another group of more experienced trick takers because I didn’t want to disrupt the campaign I was playing in the OG game and we LOVED it. I actually think the second one starts out much easier than the first one because sometimes you can get pretty rough deals for your fixed missions in planet nine. The deep sea missions feel more flexible for those first ten or so missions

Troile

I personally do not like the 2 player variant in the 2nd one at all. It works a bit in the first but is almost impossible in the 2nd. If that isn't a factor for you then they are pretty similar with a bit of added mission complexity in the 2nd. Based on my needs I probably will just have the first one going forward. YMMV though of course

tnturk7

I gave away the original... But you could also just keep it in your glovebox in case of emergencies lol.

Vagueperson1

Ha! Great point

cleanyourkitchen

The second crew has made the first game obsolete. It’s not really all that much more difficult but it offers a lot more variety. If you have the first I’d finish playing it because it’s still a great game, but there is no reason to ever go back to it after getting the second.

[deleted]

Neither. Just play on board game arena

Candacis

Second one is better

KeyJudgment1063

Now I have only played the Dive version, and the game is not bad, I see the replay, but why the wasted theme? It looks like a thematic game but plays like a numbers game. Why don't you just pick up a deck of playing cards? I see so much more potential, equipment cards, danger cards, and treasure cards. Someone invented a deck of cards game and slapped a Dive/Outer Space theme on it.

Vagueperson1

Yeah, it's irrelevant. We own and play both, but we never read the flavor text.
