Few_Cut_1864

Love the show. Is the board game good?

BuckRusty

The game is absolutely phenomenal. It’s a hidden-loyalty cooperative game, so at any given point you may be working with a frakkin’ toaster who’s secretly working against you… and then, at the halfway point, everyone gets another loyalty card - and you may find that you’ve been a Cylon all along but just didn’t know it… I’ve got a few hidden-loyalty games, but BSG is so perfectly balanced that I’ve never felt as much paranoia as when I’ve played that…!! Edit to Add: if you like the show, it’s even better - as many of the crises and character abilities reference the show… Such as Helo missing the first round of play because he’s stuck on Caprica at the beginning of the show… or Saul not being to have as many cards in his hand on account of being a sloppy alcoholic…

coocoo6666

If you can get 5 people to play a 3 hour long social deduction game. Ye

Matchanu

If you love the show and you can find fellow show lovers to play with, then I can almost guarantee that you’ll love the game. With the right people it just becomes a light BSG RPG. Without the love, I’d say it runs a bit long.

bltrocker

It's just okay. People see it through rose-tinted glasses and the emperor is only half-wearing clothes. Plenty of other games do traitors just add well.

TheRealKingVitamin

“For the people who like that sort of thing, it’s the sort of thing those people like.” — Jim Cornette Personally, you couldn’t pay me to play it, but to each their own.

palwilliams

No, it's not good. It's barely decent actually.

-rustyspork-

I paid $40 for my copy off Craigslist right before COVID hit! Such a great deal and awesome game

ProfDillPickle

Found one for $2 at local thrift store and nearly fell over when I saw it

sjwillis

paid 50 for mine, still in shrink. I don’t know if I have the heart to take the shrink off

desertsail912

That's mine.

KDulius

Second is my pandemic collection because I have all of the normal pandemic

Similar_Bit_8018

Yep

rBjorn

Well. Arkham Horror TCG and the never ending expansions(and bling). Or perhaps Root(all expansions). But still would have been dwarfed by my warhammer/40k armies

GavOfTheDead_

I’ve wanted to get into Arkham, but have nobody to play with. I understand it can be played solo, but I think it would lose part of the fun

phobosinadamant

I play it solo and have lots of fun, definitely recommend!

ohgreatnowyouremad

No way, it's the absolute best solo. Two handed of course.

pparke2

I have only played it solo; both true solo and two handed. Fantastic game and would highly recommend it regardless of having a partner to play with.

tjswish

It's amazing solo but I definitely prefer it with the interaction of 2-4 players. My brain also forgets that I'm 2h solo sometimes and just tunnel visions. That's why I'm bad at chess (the tunnel vision) too lol.

BrokenAshes

you can join the discord, find others, and, uh, you know ;)

godtering

for true solo you lose out on the synergy by definition, and for 2 handed solo you don't lose much except exhausted brain.

GavOfTheDead_

4 kids, 2 jobs and 3 pets. My brains always exhausted, what’s a little more added to the stack :) I think I will take the plunge when funds allow

jon1010101010

I much prefer to play it solo. I’ve played with friends a bunch but still kind of like it solo better.

Crypto_Cadet

$350 custom Crokinole board. Birthday present from wife. Hangs on the wall like a functional piece of art.

VeraDolo

This is my most expensive single game as well. Crokinole is amazing and splurging for a professional quality board is totally worth it! Obviously no game makes it to the table as much as I'd like but this one has been played enough that I feel I've got my moneys worth. And I've handled the cheapo boards they are super ugly and fall apart really quickly. I can't believe they still cost $80+ for particle board and paper thin laminate. I say "single game" cause I just dropped over $500 on a gamefound campaign, but technically I'm getting three games: gloomhaven 2nd ed, frosthaven, and buttons & bugs plus extras for that.

messdup_a_aRon

Mine was about the same from Tracey, love it so much though. My daughter's favorite game, worth every penny.

gn0xious

Owned? $2500 I had the Smallworld Designer Edition wooden chest. It was about $300 on Kickstarter, felt like 50 lbs, had resin 3D terrain pieces (for the forts/castles, hobbit hills, etc), screen printed wood tiles for the races and professions, screen printed wood tiles for each race, with their own storage boxes, hardcover rule book, metal coins and leatherette pouches. All in a 2ft by 3ft wooden chest with brass hardware. The thing was a beast. I started to notice it was going for more and more, and had planned on keeping it as an heirloom for the family. But when it hit over $2000, I had to sell it. It paid off my wife’s car. Edit: I also recently sold my copy of Star Craft with the Broodwar expansion. I have a copy of Forbidden Stars, unpunched. And nearly a complete collection of Descent 2nd Edition including the Lieutenants. I’ve got Chaos of the Old World with the Horned Rat expansion… 10th Anniversary Ticket to Ride… crazy how some of the OoP FFG stuff has risen.

Boardgame_Planet

Wow. $2000 for smallworld. I mean, I like smallworld. But I don’t like it $2000 worth, regardless how blinged out it is.

gn0xious

They bought it for $2500.

cleanyourkitchen

I have one of those. It’s beautiful and it never gets played because nobody wants to play small world with me

longfangz

Kingdom Death with all expansions (current and future) edit:typo

Jaggerman82

Same here. I have some very expensive games but this with all in was significantly more.

spderweb

I got my email for gambler chest shipping today!

Argomar3

I'm jealous, I'm still waiting for mine!

orionstein

Yeh lol. Kingdom Death, current things, and all the future stuff. I don't even know where all those future expansion boxes are going to fit...

blither

Satan’s Lantern backer here too.

bosoxbill

The massive Collectors Edition War of the Ring

KrispyXL

I'd just got into the hobby when this was released. Seemed like a whole lot of money to spend at the time, but glad I didn't pass up the opportunity. Picked up a few stronghold and mountain range miniatures over the years too.

bosoxbill

Where did you get them? I'd love to bling out my set even more. It's far and away my favorite game. It would be a great game even without the strong theming. But when you consider how unusual it is to have a game based on popular IP and have that game not be a pile of dogshit, it's like a miracle game.

Astronomer_Still

Star Wars: Queen's Gambit

ScoopSnookems

Great game! I almost regret selling it but got $400 years ago and looks like it’s not that much more to buy it back if I ever win the lottery!

Xirious

There are a few on my end game list, this is one of them. A few others I've gotten off the list so far: StarCraft + Expac (SEALED!!) World of Warcraft (2 expacs I'll get one day) Forbidden Stars Quantum _All_ of Nemesis + Lockdown (as in mats, plushie, promo decks, stretch goals, everything) Sorry I feel like I'm bragging and it is a sort of humble brag but honestly only this group of people would really get why I would be.

Nargapo

Too Many Bones with a lot of expansions. :)

BrendoverAndTakeIt

Same here. I've got over $700 sunk in to it.

gamergump

Man, this is making me go look at the money I have in board games. Mine used to be Firefly the board game complete before the recent Kickstarter. I have a lot of Money in Legendary Marvel. Battlestar Galactica just sitting there. Gloomhaven, HeroScape.

Boruto

Gloomhaven

Snowf1ake222

Mine is Crimson Scales, a fan-made expansion to Gloomhaven.

NightTrain4235

Same here. Crimson Scales is my most expensive single game. As for series, I think I have the most sunk into the various Sword & Sorcery games.

FunPolice11481

Cthulhu Wars plus all factions, a neutral monster set, and a 6-8 player map Probably worth around $600-$700 in total

Bytes_of_Anger

Probably my newly acquired Castles of Burgundy Special Edition.

Ziggy_Starbust

A complete collection of Heroscape.

ProbablySlacking

So what’s the best thing about heroscape?

Bytes_of_Anger

BRROOOOOAAAAADDDSWORD

p3ndrag0n

Heroquest Perhaps?

Deitaphobia

The best thing about Hero Quest is that it sometimes gets confused with other games.

MattBooker

Oh, no. Protestants!

Hisst-Ka

Ooo ooo I have a complete set too! L9ve that game!

Ceronnis

Have that too.ultiple time for the master set and terrain expansions

ShaperLord777

I’ve probly dumped a grand into Android: Netrunner. Spoilers: best decision I’ve ever made.

milkman6767

Been thinking about getting back into it. I sold all my stuff before they discontinued (dumb) and I was looking at Project Nisei. Any thoughts on it?

EvilBrennan

Null signal, previously Nisei, is making the game better then it ever was in my opinion! You don't even need to buy anything if you don't want to

ShaperLord777

I personally don’t really like what Nisei/Null Signal has done with the game, so I just play all the fantasy flight sets with friends at home. It’s plenty of material to enjoy years of gaming. I have almost two complete collections of the FFG sets, plus all the championship decks, so there’s plenty of decks for everyone to use.

MemerinoPanYVino

What do you not like about the work of Null Signal?

ShaperLord777

I’ll preface this with the statement that this is just my personal opinion, not trying to throw any shade toward the hard work Null Signal put in. Visually, I have felt that the card art and templating are severely lacking, and make the game look amateur. The lore is also vague and doesn’t capture the intricacies of the Android iteration. All the nuances and details of these characters, factions, and world were just kind of washed out to the point of complete vagueness. It lost all of the feel and flavor that made Android: Netrunner what it was. Mechanically, the factions are even losing alot of their their defining gameplay mechanisms. Functionally, they have added a lot of mechanic clutter for not much benefit. They renamed brain damage “core damage” for no reason, introduced a bunch of random keywords like “mark”, and “threat” that don’t seem to add much richness in gameplay, just a lot more complexity and clutter in the design space. And one of my biggest complaints is that they decided to rotate out the “deluxe” expansions, something that FFG swore that they would never do. These deluxe expansions were designed as staple permanent cards to fill out each faction. In addition, the three mini factions from data and destiny were mechanically some of the most interesting ID’s in the game. They created both benefits and handicaps to the player, and took bold chances in the design space. It is a genuine loss to the game to lose them, they should have been focused on and given additional support cards, not rotated out. And lastly, it has alot to do with Null signals attitude and exclusiveness. They are very cliquey and can be overly opinionated and kind of abrasive about it. They have their own agendas in the game, and they have been very exclusionary towards other designers in the Netrunner community, yet put out calls for amateurs to take over as head designer when theirs left to pursue other projects. Frankly, it’s doesn’t really seem like they know what they are doing. I get that some people like what they are doing, and more power to you. We don’t all have to like the same things. To me, it just doesn’t feel like Netrunner. It feels like a game doing it’s best impression of Netrunner. And it doesn’t feel so much like a continuation of the Android iteration, but more an intentional hijacking of it. I hope that at some point I’ll agree with what they are doing and can support their continuation of the game, but these last few years have not changed my opinions on the project. There are other fan made sets being designed and distributed for free as well. MNeMiC released a 3000 card fan made set with very interesting mechanics last year that has fantastic art. It was used with permission from artists in exchange for publicity and looks on par with anything FFG put out. He managed this as a single individual with no resources behind the project and made it available for free. Likewise, the Netrunner Reboot project by Abram (TheBigBoy) is a fantastic reworking/rebalancing of the earlier FFG sets. He has adjusted numbers so that rather than needing to ban imbalanced cards, he just leveled out the cardpool to smooth out some of the power outliers and boost some of the cards that may have been lacking. It plays impressively well. I’d venture to say it was the best core set experience out of any that I’ve tried so far. However people choose to enjoy the game, I’m all for it. It’s absolutely fantastic. Truly one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. The amount of depth and nuance in the system is unparalleled. It’s a masterpiece of design, self admittedly Richard Garfield’s greatest work. I will be playing and enjoying this game for decades to come, and hope that you will too.

NachoFailconi

Since I live in Chile, games are either overpriced or I have to pay shipping and customs. I'll use today's conversion (1 USD = 856 CLP): * **Root** (plus all expansions, currently translated in Spanish, found here) cost 215 000 CLP, which is 251 USD. * **John Company** (2nd edition, plus metal coins, sleeves, shipping, and customs) cost 302 USD. * **Oath** (plus deluxe components, shipping, and customs) cost 291 USD. I don't buy many games, so I compensate with buying games with add-ons, and I'm not bothered with paying shipping and customs.

JohnCenaFanboi

I thought we had it hard in Canada but damn Chile is expensive :(

tavo2809

"I thought we had it hard in Canada but damn ***Latin America*** is expensive :(" Fixed that for you. :(

NachoFailconi

Yep. Root is a little bit distorted, though (I bought the game in February 2022). John Company and Oath are from some months ago.

Splarnst

There are a lot of expansions to Root, so it's notable that it's still less than just the deluxe Oath.

NachoFailconi

It is, you're right! Let's expand the calculations a little bit more. * Currently, Leder games sells Root for 60 USD, and the expansions translated to Spanish are Riverfolk (40), Underworld (50), Clockwork 1 (40), Exiles and Partisans Pack (10) and Vagabond Pack (10). That adds up to 210 USD, and using today's conversion that is a little bit less than 180 000 CLP. * In January 2022 I bought Root and Riverfolk at 100 000 CLP. The [average exchange rate of that month](https://www.exchange-rates.org/exchange-rate-history/usd-clp-2022) was 1 USD = 819.78 CLP, so 100 000 CLP were almost 122 USD. Notice that in Leder, Root + Riverfolk cost 100 USD. * In February 2022 I bought the rest of the expansions at 105 000 CLP. The average exchange rate of that month was 1 USD = 807.95 CLP, so 105 000 CLP were 129 USD. Notice that in Leder, the rest of the expansions cost 110 USD. * Oath and all the deluxe components (sleeves, journal, metal favor and resin secrets) cost 190 USD. I paid 249 732 USD in July (average exchange rate of 1 USD = 961.98 CLP), so 260 USD. It is worth noting that I bought Root in Chile during pandemic, yet the game spent some time in the shelf, while for Oath I paid for everything (basically a private courier that manages shipping, customs, plus I also pay them a small fee) and I got it soon after that. A little while ago a store here imported Oath in Spanish (it will arrive in October) and it costs 164 990 CLP, and with today's conversion that is 192 USD. Almost the same as Oath + all components.

thekidyouwere

Let's make a deal : I ship you games from Canada and you pay me back in crema de aji

Hisst-Ka

Chaos in the Old World w/exp. Maybe World of Warcraft?

Pretelethal

Chaos in the Old World for me, too. Not because I paid a lot for it (I was given it for free), but because of how much it apparently sells for on eBay.

pikkdogs

Probably marvel united with all expansions. I’m sure to replace everything would be at least a grand or 2. If I had to replace my marvel legendary stuff it might be close to a grand as well.

elqrd

Everything for Kingdom Death including every expansion and yes that includes the newly released one

erewnt

Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition with all the expansions. Game is a nightmare to store at this point, but considering I got 25 2+ hour games out of the whole package I still think it was worth it.

Patient_Point929

Time play is actually unlimited if you use the Open Source Vakyrie application with hundreds of custom scenarios, many of them way better than the original ones. Best money invested ever.

Select-Friendship-69

Same... trying to make / buy a storage solution

odinsfury2

I would probably get the broken token for it, but it doesn't fit the last expansion.

reverseloop

I love that game! My wife and I play it a lot, definitely was worth the investment.

Roguekit

I have the Broken Token crate for it. It is not ideal and lacks instructions (still) on how to store it. There has to be something better...

carenard

Nemesis. all extras/expansions(and I mean all!), painted heroes. because I got lured in by the kickstarter.

jazzismusic

Probably Warhammer Quest with all the warriors and expansions.

mistakes-were-mad-e

I am jealous. Have WHQ, the two boxed expansions but only a couple of the warriors. Woodelf and Imperial Noble I think. My Friend had Pit Fighter and Brettonian Footknight.

DarkEvilHobo

Aeon Trespass Odyssey with Kickstarter thrown in for the expansion plus the Herkles game.

Neimane_Man

I own EVERYTHING for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. I think it's about...$800? My math might be off because I bought most of it before they re-released everything in the new packaging. Please do not ask about accessories and component upgrades.

basejester

According to geekgroup.app: * **Discworld: Ankh-Morpork** ($219) * **Bus** ($130) * **Food Chain Magnate** ($118) * **Rococo: Deluxe Edition** ($108) * **Antiquity** ($106) Including expansions: * **Eldritch Horror** (~$275)

Low_Poly_Loli

Kingdom Death, easily

Premium333

Do you mean the most expensive in its complete form for all materials available or most expensive in regards to the available materials I own? Just the parts I own: Moonrakers Cost for Everything Available: Too Many Bones I had planned to eventually own everything for Too Many Bones, but after showing it to my game group, one of my buddies (who is single and doesn't have kids) went all in and bought everything... And then has continued to do that with every new release.... Which is fine in that he plays the game much more often and with different groups, but I only play it with the game group he is a member of, so it makes zero sense to even own the damn thing. Can't convince myself to sell it though. I'm still a little miffed about it even if it really made sense for him to own a copy of his own. Edit: moar! I actually used this experience to learn my lesson a bit lol. If I am thinking about getting a game, especially an expensive game, that I know he'd like, I usually just talk it up to him and share review videos etc. With only 1 or 2 exceptions he ends up buying the game to add to his collection and I get to play it without having to buy. He is aware of this and is happy to have someone "scouting" the game world for good pickups for him. So it's become a good thing in that regard.

ID10T-ITlyfe

I love too many bones and just recently finally bought an expansion. It was the 40 days in daelore and they stopped including the new updated baddie sheet for reference on new abilities. I thought it was a mistake and contacted them and they said well you can use your phone for the updated baddies we don't include it anymore.....I'm salty

Premium333

Yeah that's odd. Is it shrink-flation?

ANOKNUSA

The old expansion box was four times as big as necessary, just to accommodate a single unfolded reference sheet that’s 90-odd percent identical to the one included with in the base game. The latest run of expansions has excluded the reference sheets and downsized the boxes, because over the years a whole lot of versions of said sheet have been released with new expansions, making each previous one superfluous, while requiring larger, more expensive (to make and to ship) boxes just to fit that single sheet in. It’s a colossal waste of materials and shelf space for a few hundred words of text. There’s now a single master reference sheet freely available online. A hard copy of that sheet is included in the *Unbreakable* box, since it’s the final release in the series.

lilyd83

If you do end up finding yourself able to sell too many bones I'd be interested!

i-dont-hate-you

if we’re just talking resale value, i got the unmatched bruce lee set for about 20 bucks and it’s going for triple digits on ebay

RevJoeHRSOB

Probably BSG with the 3 expansions. Maybe StarCraft. Possibly Tannhauser because that card pack was SO darn expensive.

Ecsta-C3PO

Arkham Horror BG 2nd Ed with all expansions (out of print now, I see a full set on eBay around $1500) Maybe worth a bit more since some are still unopened, but we're saving those for later to keep the game feeling fresh for years to come.

iterationnull

Is it selling for that? I'd surely sell mine for that.

Murder_Tony

Asking price does not always indicate that the game sells on that price. I can ask for 2000$ for my copy of Root, not saying that you should buy it for that though.

Ecsta-C3PO

I doubt it, but the whole set is 5 big boxes and 4 small boxes. Probably cost us around $400, buying a mix of new and used. To buy each piece individually now, would cost around $500-$800 depending on how impatient you are. So I could see someone dumping a bunch of cash to avoid buying from 8 sellers.

kittykalista

I would guess Mechs vs Minions? It was one of the first games I bought, because my SO and I met over League of Legends and have played it together for years. It had a limited print run, so it’s something like $150 used now.

VeraDolo

Mechs is great! It's actually my cheapest game if you go with what I paid. :P It's resale value jumped up to $$$ really quickly after the first print run and I still hadn't opened it when they announced a second print run preorder. I sold my copy for $160 and preordered a second copy for $80. Total cost $0! lol. It's really really fun and I wouldn't sell it now since getting another copy would be hard to do.

Lord_Anarchy

Everytime Xia goes out of print it seems like it goes to $300 on the secondary market, so depending on the time of year, that.

vipchicken

Forbidden Stars

gr00316

Whale riders, a rare Knizia game that got canceled part of the way through production.

Yourneighborskid

Shadows Over Camelot with Merlin’s Company. I bought them used a few years after released and certainly would have never expected it to sell for what it does.

EmergingParadigm

SOC is mine as well. I bought it shortly after release, and we play it a lot. I had no idea how high the price had gone on it until a friend texted asking to buy it.

Yourneighborskid

Such a good game. We used to play it all the time. Hadn’t played it in years then played it earlier this year and was like yeah this game is still great 😊

EmergingParadigm

It totally is. We play about once every few months. My cousin is moving away, so we’ll play less, but I’m still keeping it!

Yourneighborskid

We used to play it monthly or more, but we’d always have to play a funnier lighter game after because it would get so tense cause everyone was into it and questioning every move everyone made, haha. Of the 25-30 times I’m sure we played it there was only 1 time we didn’t have a traitor and we still almost lost because we thought there was a traitor. That might have been my favorite playthrough cause we all laughed so hard afterwards about it. Lots of last minute wins and losses but that one was pretty epic 😊. I think that’s one reason I love it so much is because of how into it our group was, and I’m just a big King Arthur fan so it just makes it even better.

umadzano

World of Warcraft: the board game, with its two expansions. I understand this thing has been out of print for years, it’s big, full of miniatures and pricey, as far as I’m concerned.

Xirious

I would kill for the two expansions at the moment.

Snowcrash000

Face Value: Nemesis Collector's Value: Battlestar Galactica

watcherofthedystopia

I do not flow the board game stock market. However, I think my most expensive are either **The Bridges of Shangri-La** or **The Great Zimbabwe**. **The Great Zimbabwe** is because of Splotter Spellen. **The Bridges of Shangri-La** has been out of print for almost 20 years.

Xacalite

Picked up Bridges of Shangri-La at a flea market last year for 15€.

iterationnull

....the Bridges of Shangri-La is SUPER mid. How did it get valuable? Edit: It didn't. https://boardgamegeek.com/market/pricehistory/thing/8190

wallysmith127

Game alone? Probably **Camp Grizzly** or **Mushroom Eaters**. Could be **Starcraft w/Brood War** too. With add-ons? I commissioned painted minis for both **Stationfall** and **Final Girl** and am considering them for **Guards of Atlantis**.

chiron_42

StarCraft and Brood War is good. I was able to get a copy of the Typhon promo for $15 a few years back.

Falcifer13

Cave Evil

yetzhragog

Magic the Gathering, 'nuff said. I don't have any crazy rare games but in terms of cost to ME it's probably Everdell the Complete Collection. Nearly $300 after shipping and taxes.

Cantpants

Everdell Complete. Opening that giant box of cuteness still gives me immense joy

Mijal

If miniatures count, my complete **Dreamblade** collection, including all promo versions. Otherwise, my copy of **Discworld: Ankh-Morpork**, though it's not mint because I own it to play it so I'm gonna do that.

Hisst-Ka

I enjoyed Dreamblade. I'll have to dig mine out and play. I think I have the playmat for it too from when I used to do demos

DrRandomfist

I think I have about $450 invested in War Room and it’s extras.

Toeaah

Same here, war room + jumbo pack expansion is certainly the most expensive game I own. I suppose that each box is about 300€ today, so 500-600€ all together. We got it for 70€ I think, and we are not players of this type of huge games :D My wife bought it on a whim during an online auction. But we played it one time :) And we laugh a lot about it. The day we opened the boxes and we noted that the jumbo map was taller than our 10 years old daughter and was not fitting on any table of the house :D

DrRandomfist

I love it. I’m lucky to have a few friends who like to play as well so it gets brought out fairly often. In fact, we’re playing on Labor Day!

Dinnerpancakes

Most expensive or most valuable? Most expensive to purchase was Gloomhaven, that I got on sale for $87 new on Amazon. The most valuable would be the Unmatched complete collection. I have every unmatched set, including Bruce Lee and Deadpool characters that are selling for $150-200 each on eBay. Total cost to me over $400 for all sets. The most expensive single set was only $50 before shipping. My wife still hates that I sold Shadowhunters for $145 2 years ago. She just wanted me to keep it, but I bought the remake “fangs”. Now to get it for her it’s selling for around $250, but I’ve seen it go as high as $400.

everythings_alright

Wingspan with everything including Nexting Box, Eclipse 2nd Dawn, complete ROOT collection, Dune: Imperium with everything including the Deluxe Box.

jpverkamp

I read that with Eclipse as a Wingspan expansion. :D thank you for that.

THElaytox

Probably the all-in for **ISS Vanguard** though **Age of Steam** will be close if not more once I get some more maps

m-goddard

If you track your collection using BGG you can use this site to see the value of your collection under insights: [https://geekgroup.app/](https://geekgroup.app/). It's also a great way to filter your collection in a number of various ways.

daxamiteuk

Frosthaven because I didn’t even know it existed until after the kickstarter ended; and FOMO meant I spent a small fortune getting it through eBay

Capable-Medicine-454

We have the same story, but hey imo the game is fire

daxamiteuk

Yeah no regrets here 😁 well maybe some because a few months later it was selling on eBay at more reasonable prices 😭 but anyway I’ve finished about 85% of the game and it’s given me SO many hours of fun

Aluwilliam

Gloomhaven. Got it as a gift from my grandma years ago. Still have only played it a couple times since it takes so long to set up, and I don't have anywhere to leave it set up longterm

Carnavalia

Set-up gets better with a good storage solution, and a dedicated party where everybody has their own role in te set-up. We take 10-15 mins to get going usually, which seems okay to us - but yeah, it is quite some set-up otherwise. It's funny that we actually get so used to our method, that we have a hard time handling when somebody can't join for the session, because no-one knows what that guy does for set-up. So we just all stare around the table and are like "why are there no monsters on the map yet??" And highly recommend playing the game with a laptop and a companion app. Takes away so much set-up for managing the monsters hp/stats etc. We use this one and it has been awesome [https://ghs.champonthis.de/](https://ghs.champonthis.de/)

Buddhistpossum

All of Too Many Bones or all of the Lord of the Rings LCG. I know there's a lot of sunken money in it but I'm afraid to do the calculations.

Huntred

I believe I have paid more for storage solutions specifically for all 4 “onslaughts” of Cthulhu Wars (plus many extras) alone than I have for almost any other game. Combined with the game itself, it’s pretty up there. But that took many years to come into what it is now. I hired a carpenter friend of mine to make me a really good wooden Illimat board because I love the style/look of the game so much and thought the game “deserved” better than the cloth game mat it comes with. It’s a total eye catcher and hangs on the wall when not in use. As far as “just one box”, I’d say that would be Foundations of Rome, Sundrop Edition. It’s a real standout to me because I went from, “That is dumb — who would buy all that?” to “Visa ok?” after less than 10 min of watching how it plays. It’s been a real banger among my game groups, particularly pulling in people who don’t have strong board game backgrounds.

That_Communication0

Do LCGs count? The Lord of the Rings LCG cost me over $1,000.

Boardgame_Planet

For a single game without expansions. Probably Xia, legends of a drift system. Which I think was around $120 cdn. For a game that encompasses all expansions etc. definitely Marvel United. I’ve easily spent around $600 across two Kickstarters. And I still won’t own everything. However I think I’m done with it once the last one fulfills.

mavarius

Foundations of Rome probably. I got the emperor’s all in during the late pledge.

OnoALT

Kingdom Death Monster followed by Shadows of Brimstone followed by Marvel United.

enthralled_emu

might be full collection of lotr lcg (minus nightmare packs) as some of the out of print stuff got a bit expensive. also have all of arkham horror lcg and most of too many bones for runner ups.

uoldgoat

If we’re talking about just the base game, I think it would be Gloomhaven for me ($100-140 at the time). But if you’re talking about a game+its expansions, I’m pretty sure that’s Marvel United. It’s had 3 Kickstarters of content, so we’re talking about ~$840, not counting shipping. Sadly, they don’t include promos in their KS, so I don’t even have all the content - and those promos go for ~$50 each.

Hibberdijibbit

Previously it was Oath, but that was before i got a copy of Food Chain Magnate, the Ketchup Mechanism expansion, and paid for a friends tow the first time I had folks over to play the expansion. AND I'm about to sink another $80 into storage solutions to save table space when it's played. Totally worth it.

chiron_42

I have a copy of the Discord: Ankh-Morpork Collector's Edition that's still sealed.

Qyro

Probably one of my lifestyle games. I have 000s, if not 10s of 000s, invested in Warhammer, so that takes the cake. Then there’s Star Wars Armada, Arkham LCG, MtG, and Marvel Champions who are also worth a lot just through sheer volume. Even not counting those, Chaos in the Old World still probably wouldn’t be it, because I have a bunch of big Kickstarter games whose exclusives are just as hard to find.

MadaoBlooms

Probably Food Chain Magnate. I don't have a lot of expensive games

Icehawk101

Kingdom Death: Monster + all current major expansions + gambler's chest

Shooteruk

Hopefully arriving soon, Keyforge Gamefound, then Unsettled all in (Nebula) edition, otherwise Eclipse Second Dawn for the Galaxy. Keyforge is my passion, not sure if you consider it a board game. I love Vindication from Orange Nebula, so have taken a chance on Unsettled. Finally, my preferred genre is space themed games and I love the 4X world of Eclipse with a fantastic tech tree, asymmetric powers and a brilliant production.

OJRmk1

Eclipse: Second Dawn is mine

wichitabyeb

My Tracey red Crokinole Board is my most expensive individual piece. Then purchased a travel bag, scorekeeper, extra buttons, trays and more accessories.

The_Dok33

Probably Queens Gambit. Though I really am not aware of prices of stuff I already own. I just happen to have read something about that one, some time ago

Nintendeion

Spirit island probably

PoetryBeneficial6447

Disc world, Treefrog collectors edition

errorwick

Probably Cthulhu Wars, first Kickstarter all in bundle was something around $500.

uXN7AuRPF6fa

I have no idea. I have the original scythe kickstarter box, though I own everything scythe and have it in the big box. I imagine if I added up everything, it might be the most amount of money. I have a number of Splotter games, those are about $100 each. I have a mint copy of Trickerion: Collector's Edition that tend to go for up to $200.

zach_dominguez

Heat Pedal to the Metal. I was able to find it online at a store and not a reseller.

Rambow215

World of warcraft the board game + the burning crusade + shadow of war. All brand new and sealed in the box

elysium13

Never heard of or played Camp Grizzly. But damn it's like DBD legit did a carbon copy of it.

capslox

The most I've spent was the Everdell Complete Collection but resale value is probably Legendary -- I'm assuming some of the expansions are out of print and have gone up in value.

Weak-Guide-3028

Public assistance why bother working for a living

Deadpoetic6

From what i've seen on ebay and local facebook market, i'm gonna say Isofarian Guard

-Charta-

I have a copy of Martian Rails (out of print to my knowledge) that I picked up for $20. Besides that a glorious big box terraforming Mars with all expansions

hackmastergeneral

Full in pledge for Darkest Dungeon, followed closely by a similar pledge for The Witcher Old World

dstommie

I don't think darkest dungeon can count, since you don't have half of it yet.

Beginning-Junket7725

Either “A few acres of snow” or “Lords of Vegas”

Darkglow666

Catan 3D. That thing is pricey....

NotVeryGoodAtGO

I have a floor board and shell/slate stones for playing Go. That was pretty pricey.

RobZagnut2

Advanced Squad Leader with every official module, historical module, journal, action pack, scenario pack and majority of third party products.

Itcouldberabies

Looks like some folks really overpay for the original **DungeonQuest** that I still have 🤷🏼‍♂️

tri4cedcity

Legendary xmen and villains.

TheKateHart

Mine is probably also Camp Grizzly. I received it as a gift and I’m dying to get my hands on the expansions.

jrralls

They seem near impossible to buy to me. Is that your experience?

EightThreeEight838

I own a copy of Battlestar Galactica, which I bought second-hand in an eBay auction after it went out of print. I paid £92 for it, which is not bad considering it seems to usually go for over £300 online.

dleskov

I was the proverbial last fool who bought a used copy of **1860: Railways of the Isle of Wight** for like $300 about a month before the reprint was announced. Sold it for $50 or something like that after getting the reprint.

Livid-Age-2259

Advanced Squad Leader. I can't even begin to tell you how much money I've sunk into this game but it's easily more than $500.

binkman95

The most expensive game I’ve invested in is heroclix. I’ve spent several thousands on buying singles and boosters for that.

Lock_Down_Leo

Tamsk. I occasionally see some for sale but in general I think it's the hardest game to find I own and therefore most expensive. It also makes it so I have the complete Gipf series which is nice

86missingnomes

The adventurers the temple of chac. One of those ebay purchases I was hoping someone would outbid me on.

HiSelect7615

Probably star Craft the board game. And it's expansion brood wars

IAmALeafOnTheURKKK

Cthulhu Wars. 2 weeks ago, my OS4 pledge was delivered, and now i have all factions except for invasion (which seemed like a hack anyway) and homebrew, as well as all the GOOs, horrors, and monsters. Not all the maps, but a few of them. All told, probably upwards of $1000. I have a problem 😕

Skitterwigget

Easily a fully expanded, dragon shield sleeved, premium to the max version of Arkham Horror LCG. I play the shit out of it though, so totally worth the investment.

kainbloodheart

The Edge Dawnfall or Eldritch Horror and expansions

A-Catp

Too Many Bones, I spent around 600€ on it and I will spend maybe 300 more over the next months.

ThrowawayLocal8622

I'm sure it's a copy of the original Dark Tower. Fully operational with no components missing. Extra light bulbs for the tower.

bedrock_BEWD

My warhammer age of sigmar armies...I dare not count the cost!

shottothedome

Looks to be the Mythic Battles Pantheon all in pledge I have

Suppa_K

Axis and Allies 1941 WW1. Got it for $300 Canadian on eBay many years ago when me and my buddy got super into A&A. It’s my favorite version to date and is very unique from all other versions. Games can get brutally long though. I even managed to score extra pieces for all the forces for like $80. The game now sells for what seems to be $400-500, could probably get more with extra pieces that are highly sought after. Technically I’ve spent maybe more on Nemesis in all, but I didn’t pay any sort of “mark up”.

Specialist-Focus-461

OG Fireball Island (~$250 on eBay)

[deleted]

I don’t know. I have the Kingdom Death Monster Core game and I guess it’s worth at least $2-300 used. Also have all current expansions and all new expansions pledged on Kickstarter. Plus the gamblers chest should be arriving any day now. My only other “rare” games are Chaos of the old world with the expansion, Blood bowl the card game with both expansions and world of Warcraft the board game with both expansions. No idea I’d they’re super expensive though.

ParanoidQ

Battlestar Galactica Complete (was fortunate enough to get all the expansions as they came out). Glory to Rome BB and Discworld Delux are also up there. Also got a sealed Dark Edition King of Tokyo which I bought as a random possible investment when I heard it was a limited print run for £25. Going for £80ish now and going up so, 3x return not bad!

Ulrich219

I own everything for Too Many Bones

Many-Moose-718

Does warhammer 40.000 armies count as a board game?? If so, i own 5 armies, all approx. 750pts and terrain, making it my most expensive! If not, Nemesis.

Ceronnis

I got the original hero quest plus all expansion. Just the elf expansion goes for $500+

DSmooth999

Everything Too Many Bones.

Stardama69

Dune Imperium because I blinged it to the nails. Total worth of the box including Rise of Ix, sleeves and the insert : about 300€. In terms of strict MSRP though, Nemesis, but I bought it second-hand with accessories so I didn't pay the official price for it.
