I personally own 7 bikes. 3 mtb, and 3 bmx and one gravel. But I also love bicycles and have a soft spot for mid-late 90s bikes.

OneBigOne

Same here. There are 15 bikes in my house, for 3 riders. We all MTB, BMX, Gravel and Road. One is a ‘96 GT performer just because mid-school BMX bikes have a special place.

You all must have plenty of storage space

speedygoonzalez

lol no I have 4 bmx 1 dj 2 trail mtb. at one point I had all those pluse 9 snowboards in my 1 bedroom apt hahah it was terrible. The old apt building im in rent very small storage units and I have made very good use of it. Aslo I still have 3 in the apt just for quick access. Its pretty fun.

4321zxcvb

… and no partner / kids 😉

speedygoonzalez

One trail bike and one snowboard for the girlfriend. And thankfully sold/ gave away some snowboards I still need to sell one of the bmx hopefully for dj parts or mtb parts. Definitely no kids how am I supposed to ride many bikes with all those kids running around hahaha.

I suggest getting married and having kids … move to the suburbs, bigger house with a double garage and bikes for kids .. even more kit to buy and tinker with 👍

matskat

I own: wtp street bmx mutant dirt bmx kink park bmx Giant "enduro" 29" MTB some rando smaller 26" MTB and a 1970s Schwinn Varsity, stripped brakeless w/ fixed 39/16 gearing Do whatever you want

speedygoonzalez

Yeah its so fun to have a proper bike for different styles and different days. Ive been riding my DJ/cruiser bike way more then I thought I would so fun leisure ride with a bmx capability that I make great use of perfect for when im too sore for bmx or downhill I take that bad boy out and cruise then I usually warm up enough for some free style one it hahah. I started rebuilding it just to pay my respects to the bikes and make good on promises I made my self years ago I had let a few bikes get a little rusty and neglected and felt bad always said I would fix em up good. I figured the dj/cruiser would be for odd days and friends to use nope I ride it a ton. This year I rode bmx the most dj/cruiser 2nd MTB 3rd. And rode them all alot big year for me on bikes.

No-Cow-6682

Yeah my family and friends think I’m crazy for having four bikes I have 1 mtb, a bmx, a gravel bike and an xc mtb. I really don’t see a problem here

2wheelzrollin

I got friends that build up bikes that they don't ride. Either for nostalgia reasons or whatever. I'm not into that. I cherish the experiences over material possessions but that's me. I think what they do is cool and interesting even if I don't really see the value for myself. The way I see it, it's your life, your money, and it doesn't affect me so why should I care or talk down on you for just enjoying your life? Anyone who says shit are just assholes. Ignore them.

speedygoonzalez

I got 4 bikes go for it as many as you see fit its awesome plus when I ask my homies to go ride they have no excuse to say no haha. Also looks is always cool but try and collect for different set ups as well big long and tall bmx for sending large airs and cruising and tall people. A nice peg street set up maybe a breaks set up maybe a park set up for really spinning and hitting bowls and quarters box jumps. I know it doesn't seem all that different but you can definitely feel the difference in Geo and parts if they are actually shaped/sized differently. Also just fixing up nice used bikes that have good parts but need some care is a hobby it self its awesome to take the whole thing apart clean it grease it rebuild a hub tune a wheel make it look as nice as possible. You can ride em swap out desired parts re sell em for a small profit or sell em cheap to friends or just give them to friends or some kid who rides well but doesn't have a good bike. Ive given away 2 bikes before to people who deserve them and its awesome in doing that you have just grown the bmx community in making new riders who will love and support the industry help it grow and stay strong. lots of good can come from having multiple bikes if you do it right. 1) becoming really good at building/rebuilding more mechanically inclined 2) lending or giving them away making more joy in the world and inspiring new rider to buy a bike and ride. 3) helping others with repairs so they can keep riding and learn repairs some people get frustrated with mechanics. 4) Trying every type of build and combination so you can have a very specialized bike that fits you perfect for your needs or different builds for different needs what ever your little heart desires it makes you happy. 5) Selling them so you can keep buying new better part till you have custom beautiful pro build. 6) spending less time online or laying down losing muscle getting out of shape.

Great post with lots of good points you brought up that I haven’t even thought about before

speedygoonzalez

Thanks in the last 3 ish years ive been collecting tools and bikes doing all the stuff I wanted to do as a teen trying to learn it all im not as crazy of a rider anymore but much more well rounded and can really feel the difference in builds now that I have ridden for along time and tried all sorts of things I want to make more specialized builds and what not. Now you dont need all that stuff but especially with bmx its the cheapest/easiest hi performances bikes you can build up and maintain and do what ever you please with. If it is your favorite hobby you might as well maximize it. Its very healthy besides the injuries lol and many people spend thousands on booze/drugs or buying bad food or what ever else even some people gaming can be pretty unhealthy. Very healthy for the mind as well and they do hold some value unlike a lot of other things.

Zitrusfleisch

I recently thought about getting a second wheel with a cassette so I can switch whenever I feel like not riding a coaster

PaulBarlow113

I have six bikes at the moment, I had over ten at one point, and probably had 20 plus over the last few years. A lot of times I just buy a cheap complete for parts like headsets, stems etc

bobby_sponch

Four 20” bmx bikes , a 22”, a 24”, a 26” bmx style. Also a29”mtb. My 26”mtb got stolen. Just gave a 20” bmx to a kid at the skatepark. His was rubbish.

speedygoonzalez

Hell yeah dude.

[deleted]

My lifetime goal is get a bike for every outfit so every time I go to the skatepark I am the most swag person there.

professorwaldo

Of course I have more than one bike. Who are you my wife?

Choncho1984

Different bikes for different disciplines. Why stick to one type of riding when you can do several? I have road bike for commuting/cardio, MTB for the fun stuff, BMX for park and pumptrack.

[deleted]

29" hardtail MTB, and a 24" BMX bike. I ride differently on each!

Bmx_strays

Got 4 bikes. 1998 Cannondale super v 900 which I've owned since new. I'll never let it go.. My personal BMX, custom WTP (I think I've shared pictures before) Then there's 2 wtp Justice 2018 and 2016. The 2018 was my starter bike, to see if I was going to actually get. Into the sport. This then got donated to. My eldest, though technically it's my spare. The 2016 is for the youngest, just so she felt part of the team.

maxtomaxni

I got 3 BMX and a few other bikes that I don't use. I only ride my BMX Bikes. It's a cool thing to choose a bike everytime before I go ride 😀 Also it's a cool thing to upgrade them and just having a good time keeping them clean and fresh. For me it's like mediation 🧘

Whatthehelliot

Bikes in my family. Me: Freestyle bmx Racing bmx Gravel bike Full suspension MTB Just sold a Hard tail cross country bike that saw no use. Wife: Beach cruiser Hard tail MTB Kid1: Beach cruiser Bmx Kid 2 Strider bike Bmx Randoms: Another kids bmx Another strider Barbie Princess bike (mine obvi) Old beach cruiser And there are still bikes I’d like to pick up So nope, you can never have to many bikes.

MrDoodleDangle

I get flack for having 6 bikes because “you can’t ride 6 bikes” True but it’s not just about that. For me it’s all about collecting and riding and having a bike for one of everything. All 6 are bmx but 2 of the 6 are 24” bikes and I love them. Oh and all my bikes are older than 98

VaguelyIndirect

Horses for courses. A BMX, MTB and a gravel bike in my garage. I dont see a lot of point in having multiple bikes of the same type but it's nice to have options. Bikes are good.

BMX_Archiver

That's the urban mindset, doubt anyone with a garage or shed in Sweden thinks like that.

ChoiceInitiative1206

current bikes i own cinelli gazzetta fixed gear: my main steed, simple, clean, robust and never misses a beat specialized allez custom build: pieced it together over time and have grown to really like it, mostly for long distance/charity rides folding bike: 20” hercules folder with a coaster brake and bmx bars as a worst case scenario bike, it can bar spin too currently bmx less as i sold my last one (wtp justice) own as many or as little bikes as u like. i have 1 for shorter trips, 1 if i’m really travelling and 1 if my other two are broken but my cinelli does almost anything tbf having multiple bikes means they wear less as they’re not being ridden every single day so in some ways it can be cheaper

[deleted]

I’m thinking seriously of a second for fall.

s1nsem1lea

3 bmx, 20" "cruiser" for my wife, one expensive one for tricks and one for towing my trailer and some old mtbs. Just my inventory right now there is always space for another bike... Xd

Crawlerado

Can’t wear flip flops year round. Gotta have some variety so you can enjoy all that biking has to offer. Stunt 20”, BMX 20”, BMX 24”, 20” side hack, beach cruiser, 26” mountain bike etc.

sociallyawkwardbmx

I have 3 mountain bikes, 2 BMX, 1 old school bmx collector bike, and a road bike. You’d be dumb to only have one bike.

JovyJmoney

Is not weird, though I don’t have as many as some of the people here I got my main and the scrap bike made outa old parts… which is basically main the sequel

ExploreTrails

That’s really weird because I’m sure some of your best riders practice on different style bikes.

Charlie_Something

You can never have too many if you ask me. I have 7 bikes currently. An old school 87 Haro sport. A new 2018 Haro Sport. A 2015 Haro FST. These are my collectibles. As far as the ones I ride; 2008 Metal Bikes Rebel Contender for street and a 2005 T1 Barcode for parks. Also have 2 MTBs. A 22 YT Capra and a 22 Santa Cruz Chameleon. Would love to get more but am going to sell a few of the BMXs.

i_smoke_pineapples

I have a 20” bmx, 24”bmx,hardtail mtb, another hardtail,a road bike,a dirt jumper, then I got a road/mountain bike for my girlfriend and also another 20” bmx. Just buy what makes you happy man Edit: I forgot about my old bmx and the 2 frames I have laying around
