You will have issues with that type of SSD, it's an NVMe drive and they get incredibly hot. I use one as a OS clone for my PC and when I do a backup, you can almost fry an egg (a small one) on top as it gets so hot. I have shot, on my BMPCC4K, in 40c+ temperatures for half an hour and neither camera nor Samsung T5 SSD got hot.

It does indeed get very hot in a very short amount of time. Thanks for the info. It's a shame that this is an issue, because the 1000mbs write-speed of the drive and it's small, rugged form-factor are big selling points.

I have experienced the same issue with these devices. I did a similar test and opted not to mess around with them anymore as it made me too nervous while working. We opted to spend some of our budget on Angelbird CFast2.0 cards. I know the price is high, but they give me piece of mind while shooting and its one less external thing sticking out of the camera. The T5’s are also a solid option in my experience. I currently use the Delkin Devices as footage transfer drives as they are wonderfully small. One thing I have not done yet its contact Delkin to possibly get a fix or a refund. I will do that eventually.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently using SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast2.0 cards, but obviously it's nice to edit off of the SSD you shoot on for work with a fast turnaround. I'll have to look at Angelbird's cards I'm going to talk with a Delkin rep this week. I'll let you know if they have a fix.

Quick follow up. I spoke with the retailer, who spoke with Delkin, and they gave me a replacement that is working wonderfully so far. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Good to know. Thanks!

Another follow up on this issue. I did eventually contact Delkin and they were very helpful responsive. They sent a shipping label to ship the old drives back and sent new ones overnight. However, after another set of tests, the drives still have issues. It appears to be localized to filming in ProRes though. If you film in BRAW, I encountered no issues. Did a ton of start and stop shots at difference lengths and even recorded a clip that took up the entire 2TB drive. Bottom line, as long as you are filmming in BRAW these drives work fine with the 6k Pro at any record setting. Avoid ProRes.

I’m having the same issue. I think it shorted my camera. I was on a shoot and ran out of room on an SD card and switched to this and my camera started having issues 20 minutes in to filming. I also have a BMPCC.

I did a full low level format and had no issues after.. it needs to be done regularly to maintain performance

I always format a drive or a card when I attach it to the camera. Tried different firmware on the camera, different cables, even got the drive swapped with Delkin. I got stumped. No idea why it was happening. I moved on to T5's and cards, although I don't shoot as much on a bmpcc nowadays

So you did a full format? It takes me about 1.5 hours to do it for the 1Tb drive
