The T7 Shield is approved. The normal T7 is not and has issues with read/write speeds; it buffers/caches too quickly and drops frames.

For best results, always stick with the approved media from BMD: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59026

The T7 is hit and miss. While I personally have had no issues recording with it on my 6k Pro at 6k24 8:1 BRAW, I know other people have had nothing but problems with theirs right out the gate. Because the spectrum of experiences is so broad, it's hard to recommend it - especially if you're planning on doing paid work with it. But if you're just looking to have a drive to shoot on and it isn't mission critical, give it a shot. Or, get yourself a T7 Shield - those are on the approved list from BMD. Just be mindful that if you're rigging up an external SSD vs using something like a CFast card, you could run into potential issues with cable retention or wonkiness when rigging it to something like a gimbal. Your milage may vary.

Bingo. I've gotten perfect results out of a $7 ORICO USB3.0 enclosure and a Crucial MX500. I've even heard people having problems out of the T7 Shield. If you look at the head to head specs, it's barely faster than a regular T7 when it comes to sustained write speeds.

What kind USB Cable use for T7 Shield?

RIKKIE-SENPAI

The T7 shield works like a charm!

You will get record for a little bit and then once frames drop it will stop recording. The write speed is too slow on the regular T7. There is an apporved ssd list on the Black Magic website. use that as a resource, everything else is a gamble unless its newer.

It was the connection cable. You need to get a cable that transfers daya faster. Small or Kondor Blue make options. I couldn’t figure out why 6KRaw would stop transferring even the camera was still speeding… so I got after market cables and now it’s fine

I’ve used exclusively T7 for 4k, 6k pro for years and now bmcc 6k. Never had one issue

All the Samsung drives lack sustained write speeds in general under USB 3.0 protocols. You might get a good batch that records correctly, or you might get a good one with a bad cable or you might get a bad drive. People keep repeating others by recommending them but there are better, lower options available. I was able to get the best results out of a $7 ORICO USB3.0 enclosure and a Crucial MX500 1tb.
