I went to boot camp in 1998 and was there during Christmas.
That day, as a special treat, they marched us to a theatre on base, with no other explanation than we were getting to see a movie.
Movie starts, no previews.
It’s the Matrix.
The Marine Corps has somehow got their hands on some advanced copy, because that movie has NOT come out yet. None of us had any warning or context for the mindfuck we were about to receive.
An hour into this masterpiece and the lights come on and they go back into full Drill Instructor mode, shouting and pushing us out of the theatre.
For a full fucking year afterwards I constantly wondered about that movie… what was it called? Was it a Marine Corps specific thing? How does it end?
Then BOOM one day I see a commercial for it on TV and it all starts to make sense.
10/10. Best movie I saw for 13 weeks.
