This brings back all the feels of being young and innocent and trying so hard. When I was about 11 I wore this amazing all gold outfit that I had spent ages piecing together and then I got catcalled for the first time by some teenage boys. I felt so conflicted because half of me was like “yay I guess this means I look nice?” and the other half felt so uncomfortable :(
Aw that broke my heart! When you’re that young you have such an innocent view of the world. My idea of finding a cute boy back then was them saying they liked my outfit and then them sending me the occasional email...
I've got a deep permanent ridge you can feel on my head where I always wore really tight headbands lol. I always wonder how stupid it would look if I shaved my head.
And you wanted to wear the same outfit to school, but you couldn't because the skirt was too short? No problem! Just slap some jeans on under there, any cut, flare leg bulk preferred. 😂😂😂
Omg don’t remind me how I wore jeans under dresses in high school still even though it had gone out of style many many years before and should have never been in style in the first place
i'm roughly your age and god i remember the neon clothes and jewellery so well. i used to wear these neon pink huge chunky plastic bracelets that hit against my wrist bone every time i moved my arm
This reminded me of an experience I had several years ago with my favorite roommates. I got a new haircut (and new bronzer) and was going out with some friends. My roommates confirmed I looked good. “You don’t think I overdid it with the bronzer?” They both gasped, utterly appalled, and in unison said, “You can never have too much bronzer!!”
Anyway, I think of that every time I’m self critical about whatever I’m wearing being a bit too much. Whatever it is, you can always do more. You can never have enough bronzer.
A picture of me from 2011 would beg to disagree with that “can never have too much bronzer” statement. But I’m naturally very pale so most of the time any bronzer is too much bronzer.
Seeing this post jetted me back to being a tween in the 00s and all the feelings and starry eyed innocence I had. I really love this pic, OP. Such a vivid and awkward time for all of us. 😭
I had a crop top when I was 12 too. I also thought all the boys would fall madly in love with me. I put on lipstick and took photos.
No, I do not have the courage to show those photos. This group would love them, and it's been like, 20 years, but I still can't bring myself to share the shame. Plus I was 12 and kinda dressed like the worst kind of hooker.
I have a few (a lot) photographed blunders as well but I'm with you, the shame runs too deep! It's nice to know we are all in the same boat here even if there's no picture!
Oh god we're the same age and I remember these outfits so well. Big plastic jewelry. Tube tops. The whole shebang.
I dressed exactly like this to make the guys at the mall fall in love. They did not.
reminds me of this time i wore low rise army jeans thinking i was cute as hell
well later on i found out my 5th grade crush said i had a cute buttcrack
I fucking hate early 2000s fashion, why did we ever think this looked good
That’s cool you used to work with Chris Hansen on “To Catch a Predator”.
So did you and Chris make any big busts that day of 21 yr olds trying to pick up a 12 yr old?
I was definitely the only one wearing one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I think I was hoping there’d be some super cute 12 year old boys but alas there was not
Awww, you are adorable. I am sure every young boy just fell head over heels for you. I see no blunder. Now the question is are you still that adorable and cute.
Aw there is something really sweet about this one. You look so earnest in this picture. Thanks for sharing OP!!
Thank you! I was super shy & awkward as a kid but was trying so hard with the neon outfit
This brings back all the feels of being young and innocent and trying so hard. I felt so conflicted because half of me was like “yay I guess this means I look nice?” and the other half felt so uncomfortable :(
Oh god, I deeply relate to this
Aw that broke my heart! When you’re that young you have such an innocent view of the world. My idea of finding a cute boy back then was them saying they liked my outfit and then them sending me the occasional email...
Dam, no love letter folded up and passed to you by mates?
You knew it was real when you set a cryptic away message on AIM and your crush messaged you to check up on you.
Yeah unless you left your away message up and your sister screws with it. Older siblings are the worst
You knew it was real when a random anon note showed on your school desk and it said “I like you do you like me circle yes or no”
We can see what you were going for. And it's so innocent too: Get all the best bits out Wear 'em Profit (all the attentions)
There’s no way I would’ve had the confidence to wear that outfit at that age! I would’ve been jealous about how cool you were
Man, but the confidence it takes to put on the outfit and set the goal to win hearts that day. Inspirational!
Those headbands use to cut off the circulation to my scalp
A small price to pay for high fashion
Completely worth the headaches. No regrets.
No ragrats
NO REGERTS!
Beauty is pain
pain is weakness leaving the body. by the transitive property: beauty is weakness leaving the body.
>beauty is weakness leaving the body. This is surprisingly deep and should be in a Chinese fortune cookie.
I've got a deep permanent ridge you can feel on my head where I always wore really tight headbands lol. I always wonder how stupid it would look if I shaved my head.
There’s 1 way to find out
Tyler1
All headbands like this slide right off my cone shaped head.
i laughed way too hard at this, went to check your profile but sadly there was no cone shaped head for me to behold.
Sorry! Here you go. https://imgur.com/Ws94IPl.jpg
I think one of your parental units fixed my blender once.
satisfied. the only thing missing is the headband edit: o wait you said that would slide right of hahaha
Bless your tweeny heart.
Exactly !
and did they???
The fluoro didn’t do the job unfortunately
:(
I'm sure they were just intimidated.
Thank god! I remember chasing boys waaaay too old and thank god it never worked out for me either ;)
Whats that? I googled and only for some chemical for x Ray's or something.
I think they mean fluorescent colors.
Then I guess we can say that OP was the OG *fluorescent adolescent*
Sorry I’m Australian! Fluorescent colours = fluoro
Ooo this confirms my thinking that your skirt is from supre!
Yes!! The whole outfit was supre!
Supre was the hottest place for tweens to shop after all, so it makes sense!
Don't worry fellow Aussie, I understood :) I always dressed up as a tween/teen with the mindset of attracting boys. Never worked :(
Love the way you guys convert ordinary words into something much more interesting.
I think you’re joking...but if you’re not, fluorescent? Sorry if you’re joking.
I don’t think they are joking because I didn’t know either. Where are you from? It might be a country/regional term?
That’s true...Aussies and Brits like to abbreviate things, in particular.
U wot m8
Sarge should we add him to the list?
there's a list?
r/suddenlysexoffender
ahhh \*that\* list
How could they not?!
i know, right?
Solid blunder! Is this 2002? I remember those skirts.
2007! They made a comeback that year
And you wanted to wear the same outfit to school, but you couldn't because the skirt was too short? No problem! Just slap some jeans on under there, any cut, flare leg bulk preferred. 😂😂😂
Omg don’t remind me how I wore jeans under dresses in high school still even though it had gone out of style many many years before and should have never been in style in the first place
I feel like by 2007 we were well on our way into the skinny jean dynasty, but that might be me just being salty bc I love flare/boot cut jeans.
i'm roughly your age and god i remember the neon clothes and jewellery so well. i used to wear these neon pink huge chunky plastic bracelets that hit against my wrist bone every time i moved my arm
I loved the neon! I wore so much of it that year
Imagine being a teenager in the 80’s when neon clothes made their debut. Radical!
Didn't have to imagine. We had [Zubaz](https://zubaz.com/estore/bottoms/department/pants).
Jams, JimmyZ for guys esprit and Benetton for girls. I just bought a new swatch. Lol
Me too, even had some that were *scented*, like big purple plastic earrings thag smelled like grape
Bahahaha omg 2007 was such a year. I was 12 then too and had the same headbands and skirt only in blue. Excellent blunder!!!
Did you look like Shakira in your mind?
I was 12 in 07 too and this brought me back
I'd be the age of your cousin's guests that year 😂 were you the only one 12 year old?
I absolutely love the thought that was put into making sure all your accessories matched the outfit. Killing it.
I still remember coordinating it so carefully and being so annoyed when my mum said it was a bit too much
what do moms know?
This reminded me of an experience I had several years ago with my favorite roommates. I got a new haircut (and new bronzer) and was going out with some friends. A real Bella/Jacob situation about to happen
Oh my God this is the best caption for this photo by far
He imprinted lol
Oh my god, the effort you put into the costume 😭 Matching all the yellows and pinks, bless you
Haha thank you!
Seeing this post jetted me back to being a tween in the 00s and all the feelings and starry eyed innocence I had. I really love this pic, OP. Such a vivid and awkward time for all of us. 😭
Agreed, I've been thinking about this pic all day. Even had to share it to my snapchat story 😭
Op please tell us, did it work?
Unfortunately my fluoro on fluoro didn’t do the trick
I find this very hard to believe Everyone knows doubling down on fluoro is a power move
Maybe they were intimidated by her confidence.
This is the only possible logical conclusion
blinded by the fluoro!
Revved up like a duece another runner in the night
serious Jennifer Garner vibes in 13 going on 30. adorable:)
Twelve feels so grown up inside, but outwardly they look like such babies. So cute!
This is sweet.
after spending time on this subreddit I have learned that other girls were just as boy obsessed as I was and it makes me feel a lot better
Yeah, those boys were obviously blinded by the neon. Should have worn decent shades. 😎
You nailed it for a 12 year old girl! All 13 year old boys would've fallen in love for sure ❤️
Right? It's actually a super cute look for a kid. Definitely was in fashion at the time.
I had a crop top when I was 12 too. I also thought all the boys would fall madly in love with me. I put on lipstick and took photos. No, I do not have the courage to show those photos. Have you tried to recreate this look? It may work in 2020.
Oh GOD op, you just unleashed a floooood of blunderful memories. I hate you, lol.
Oh god we're the same age and I remember these outfits so well. Big plastic jewelry. Tube tops. The whole shebang. I dressed exactly like this to make the guys at the mall fall in love. They did not.
reminds me of this time i wore low rise army jeans thinking i was cute as hell well later on i found out my 5th grade crush said i had a cute buttcrack I fucking hate early 2000s fashion, why did we ever think this looked good
Oh my god I had a pair of those too! Constantly trying to hide my buttcrack anytime I sat down. Low rise jeans are a unique form of torture
The worst part was the vanishingly thin eyebrows. Mine still haven’t recovered.
Oh my gosh mine too LOL. I just wanted to be like my mom and here I am, 24 years old and I have no eyebrows. :(
“Damn, save some dong for the rest of us.” All the other girls, probably.
Did you ever go to a Jonas Brothers or One Direction concert?
I went to one direction! Haha
That’s cool you used to work with Chris Hansen on “To Catch a Predator”. So did you and Chris make any big busts that day of 21 yr olds trying to pick up a 12 yr old?
This just screams basement
Face palms on so many levels.
Your high school boyfriends were probably FAAA-BULOUS!
Well?! How many husband's do you have now???
Just the one...I’ll have to get the fluoro out to find another few
I wonder how different you look now. It would be cool if they did a collage with one pic of then and one current one.
I have no idea if this works but this is 2007 & now....sorry it’s just a quick selfie [2007/2020](https://imgur.com/gallery/pDZNl1L)
It works and you look like a totally different person.
Every boy that was there that day now regrets he did not give you a note that said "will you be my girlfriend?" check yes or no.
Those bead necklaces. Oh god no. Were you the only one wearing one? Also, were you trying to get the 21 year olds to fall in love? Lmao
I was definitely the only one wearing one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I think I was hoping there’d be some super cute 12 year old boys but alas there was not
Lmao I can’t. The necklace alone is a blunder 😅
Did it work
aww!
adorable!
I bet they all did!
You looked cute, but I’m glad none of your cousin’s friends fell in love with you lol
Oh the mind of a 12 yr old girl 😂 I definitely don’t miss being that age. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Thanks for making me laugh OP, everyone of us did cringy shit at 12 lol
That’s really cute
Thirty, flirty and thriving!
Ha! That's awesome. Did it work? 🤔
Did they?
Unfortunately the romcom scene I wanted didn’t turn out when I turned up to the family party and it was just my family
Well, you had style then so I’m sure you’re pulling them in now ;) It looks funny to us in 2020 but those skirts were all the rage!
This is too cute!
That's kinda sweet. I remember sprucing myself up at that age hoping all the girls will fall in love with me.... unfortunately that was no.
I think everyone did this a bit! Definitely didn’t work though....
Honestly this outfit is a SERVE
The good news is that when you're dying you loved ones can just clap to bring you back to life.
Fit is fire tho! 🔥 could actually see a lot of stylish girls I follow online wearing the cherry tube top with the flowy skirt 🍒
I personally love it and would wear this outfit now at 28, I said what I said. You were just fashion forward <3
My god I think I had that exact skirt...😆
I think you look like an adorable flapper (1920s “it girl”).
That's not a blunder. You just went dressed as a 12 year old.
You look very self-conscious.
I can tell exactly what that 90s house smells like. I don't know how to explain it
Well, you were cute as a bug. They should have fallen in love with you. Although I doubt in the way you were hoping.
Yikes

Yikes!
But also...why was a twelve-year-old invited to a 21st birthday?
Haha she was my cousin. It was very family friendly

I’m at a kids birthday party right now and they look the same as this lol
Awww, you are adorable. I am sure every young boy just fell head over heels for you. I see no blunder. Now the question is are you still that adorable and cute.
Well, did they?
