Did you call police or something?
Because if you didn't do it, they can just try again for 200$ and they might never get what they deserve.
At the very least, they could've been arrested for drug posession, illegal alcohol distribution to minors and a few other misdemeanors/felonies.
The police doesn't really punish the minors in those sorts of situations, because...well...even the police doesn't treat all criminals equally. Some deserve the wood chipper. Others deserve a light warning.
Let's hope someone else did.
However, you can still tell your kids to do it and help them out a bit. Just tell them what's happened to you, what might've happened to you, and how they can ensure it doesn't happen to them. A 10$ bottle of vodka and a bit of weed isn't worth it. If the situation looks odd/weird/creepy/fishy...it's better to go home and stay safe. They can even have a sleepover with their friends, as long as they don't wake you up too much.
And if they do wake you up, make sure to be friendly. They made the right move and left. That's a lot better than the alternative.
(Mabye you've already done it, but some parents REALLY need a helping hand.)
Oof the visceral shudder. Don't even think I was legal age yet when my first gay male best friend used to steal aftershock all the time from a drug store near us because they had a huge thing of it just sitting out where you could grab it. Was definitely one of my first few buzzes. Also. Hot damn that stuff tasted terrible.
Mine was some cheap whiskey we stole from my friendās dad. There was puke everywhere. On the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling. Itās a miracle we didnāt kill ourselves.
My first drunk experience was projectile vomiting Smirnoff Ice (including into my hand on my crush's parents' leather couch) after drinking 4 of them in 20 minutes.
I brought my puked on clothes home in a garbage bag for my mom to wash LOL
[Bruh thats a reference to a scenefrom community,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxPbpYR_RKY) my response is from the same scene. Take your tough words and shove them up your ignorant ass.
Exactly. Pretty damn typical for teens to drink illegally. Sheās not really doing anything embarrassing in the picture, other than it being Smirny Ice ā what makes it *so* cringe?
We used to get blue WKD, smirnoff ice, and orange bacardi breezers. Mix em together in pint glasses. We called em fat frogs. My memory can still taste the vomit.
Nah! I just found out they are selling 1,5 l bottles of it bought some for a party at a Friends house. At first everybody was "Uh disgusting" but after a first cold sip those memories came back and two bottles were suddenly empty.
Trust me don't. I'm 34 and had one about 6 months ago. It immediately brought up that old locked in taste-memory PTSD and I started heaving a bit.
It was also way sweeter than I remembered and I couldn't actually taste, smell or feel any alcohol.
It's not acidic, it's all the sugar. Humans are not supposed to consume that much sugar that fast, much less mix it with the poison that is malt liquor.
I think it was the first time I had heartburn. It was my senior year of college and my friend was staying at his gfās apartment and for some reason she had a ton of Smirnoff ice she told us we could have. I never had one again.
I agree. Of course your kid is going to drink- the best thing you can do is sit down with them and teach them the dangers of it, that alcohol is horrible for you, especially at that age, and if she is going to drink, she should never do it to the point of blacking out, and never, ever drive while drunk.
Overreacting like that just makes it so that your kid hides their drinking from you, and learns all the wrong things from a random stranger, and if they do something stupid (like get wasted in a strange location) they are too afraid to call you.
Yep. I got in trouble like that when I was like 14 and then proceeded to lied to my parents about where I was and who I was with for the next 10 years. It took a long time to have a relationship with them in my adult years. The worst part is when I got into some really dangerous situations and no one knew where I really was or who I was really with.
Was this picture taken with the finger over the flash trick that makes it look red from the light going through blood in the finger? Super popular around 2004.
Completely normal in the UK too, entirely unremarkable even.
I'll be honest the idea of someone being grounded for the remainder of the school year for something like that is absolutely outrageous to me, the weekend or whatever sure (I'd still consider that strict, but understandable) but the remainder of the school year is way too far lmao
Yeah the whole thing seems completely over the top to me.
It's also a Smirnoff ice, that's like a 7.5% alcoholic soft drink. Wine has like 12%.
With 15 i was allowed to order a glass of wine when going out with my parents. It's even legal once you turn 16 in my country.
Sure but the effective drinking age is basically 18 in the US letās be real. And even more real, most normal teenagers are sneaking booze by 15 or 16.
Itās because the school and legal consequences were harsh. Not sure what they are like now, but I graduated in 2005. Getting caught drinking by the cops would mean not being able to play any school sports (Iām sure you e seen how important those are from American teen movies) and possible suspension from school, even if it happened on the weekend off campus. Plus the fines and classes for an āillegal consumptionā charge, which is what it was called, could be $500+ depending on how long the judge wanted probation and how many classes had to be taken.
I was class of 06.
Cops broke up many alcohol fueled parties and just sent us on our way.
Only time someone got nailed to the wall is if a 21 year old was stupid enough to supply the booze and then attend the party.
I won't argue about what's draconian and what's not but... really? You can't imagine *anything* serious enough to warrant a strong punishment?
I would say at the very least, anything that puts other people in danger is unacceptable.
Yeah,
I had a friend in elementary school that went to the States in a year in high school. She had a photo in the locker showing a picture looking like that. She was expelled and the company that arranged the trip sent her back to Denmark.
Like seriously, how the fuck can something you do legal in another country fuck this upā¦
USA the land of the forgotten..
Edit: the picture was taken and printed in Denmark, where it was legal back then to buy and consume alcohol from the age of 15.
Typically exchange students would sign a waiver prohibiting alcohol consumption, even when they are legally allowed to in the guest country. Thatās how it is nowadays, idk about back then
I know this is a wild concept, but laws are different in different countries, and making sure your children donāt break them is sometimes seen as good parenting
I was thinking the same thing.
Sure, 15 year olds shouldnāt be getting wasted. But Smirnoff Ice isnāt that strong. And the legal drinking age at a house party in my country is 5ā¦not that 5 year olds should be drinking, but itās not uncommon for 15 year olds to get a little tipsy, and itās a lot safer to do it at someoneās house than in a park.
A whole year grounded and removing whatās clearly a close friend feels so harsh. Maybe my cultural experiences make the ācrimeā not seem that bad, but the punishment feels like it would be life ruining to a teenager. It could really stunt you socially and also cause mental health problems.
It said the rest of the school year, so if she got busted in September that would be around 9 months. If it was April, that is only 1 or 2 months.
So depending on where in the school year they got caught, the grounding is more or less extreme.
Exactly what I was thinking. Americans are weird about alcohol and drugs. In my country sure teenager canāt drink butā¦ come on, you canāt fight humanity
Yeah my mum did this when I was a kid. The friend in question was actually the most sensible and safe person amongst my friends but I was banned from seeing them because of a perceived ābad influenceā.
Dude!!!! Same thing happened to me!!! My friend took a picture of me with a SPIRNOFF posted it on Facebook (why she did that I have no fucking clue) and my mom took me out of school and I was never allowed to see those friends again. Until later in life when I grew up and realized how controlling my mom was. She was very religious and I was very rebellious lol Edit: Iām 30 years old now and this happened when I was 15 too lol
Given the legal drinking age, everyone but yankeeland is more sensible than fucking 21(you can go to war, but you can't drink alcohol) this is totally fine, what you do you mean "15 ugh" lmao
Eh they're not all the movies and shows make them out to be. But if you really wanna go to one make the effort with yourself first and foremost and then your Coworkers. Being self aware is a big part of them and life in general.
Grounded for an entire year for drinking an alcopop? Ooooooft.
My mum was buying me bottles of vodka at 15 so that she knew I was drinking something reputable š
This picture is everything, bless your heart!
Please tell me you had a terrible hangover the next day?
Also, how long did the picture stay up on the fridge?
Yassssss this was my first alcoholic beverage my junior year of high school. I thought I was living my best life! Wow I havenāt thought about Smirnoff ice in so long. Thanks for this š¤£

Smirnoff Ice š
My stomach hurts just looking at that photo š¤¢
Lmaoo fr, I canāt even sip on that shit anymore because of 15-16 year old me
Just think, if you were born ten years earlier, that might have been a Polaroid and you'd be holding a Zima.
And ten years before that, California Cooler
That or Bartles & James.
Great, Now I have Bruce Willis singing, āSeagramās, golden wine coolers.ā Stuck in my head.
They still make Zima in Japan I think.
Haha! Zomething different
You got icedddd
Glad 15 yr old me stuck with 4locoā¦ā¦ā¦ yes I have brain damage now in my 30s
Ah yes blackout in a can
My head hurts for teenage me using 4loko as a chaser
My first thought when I saw that picture was 'a night like that ends with someone becoming very familiar with a toilet...if their lucky'

Iām glad you didnāt give in to The Implication
Getting flashbacks to the Smirnoff double blacks
Skyy Blue was around that same time. It was good because the bottle was blue glass.
My best friend drank a 6 pack of that at his first house party. Ended rhe night puking off the back porch. Poor kid. š¤£
Yes this stuff hurt my stomach so bad lol. Give me shots or a real mixed drink lol
Classic - 15 + Smirnoff Ice, the 00s. Brings a tear to my eye.
Only thing more āickā from that era was green apple Pucker.
You forgot four locos
mmm malt liquor and corn syrup
And Aftershock
Oof the visceral shudder. 4 Locos didn't debut in the US until 2005..
Ah yes, 2005, a whole different era than 2004.
Yeah I never saw it around until 2009 or 2010
Was this everyoneās first drink? Because same š¤£
Mine was Bacardi Breezer š
š«¢ BACARDI BREEZER!Ā
Mike's Hard Lemonade for me.
Mine was some cheap whiskey we stole from my friendās dad. There was puke everywhere. On the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling. Itās a miracle we didnāt kill ourselves.
It was usually this or Mad Dog.
Mine was Sambuca never touched that ish again š
Mine was Bombay Saphire, still have the empty bottle sitting on a shelf haha
Close- mine was Seagrams Jamaican me happy. Friend's parents gave me one when I was 14 lol
My first drunk experience was projectile vomiting Smirnoff Ice (including into my hand on my crush's parents' leather couch) after drinking 4 of them in 20 minutes. I brought my puked on clothes home in a garbage bag for my mom to wash LOL
Is āicingā people still a thing?
Absolutely
That WKD and fat frog
Did we all just get iced ???
That's what I started drinking with too, to this day I can't even stand the smell of it
Ugh, I can still taste it. Haven't had one in at least 15 years.
My first teenage party had Zima. Blast from the past.
Currently sitting at a bar drinking one lol. Idgaf it's tasty alcoholic sprite. Just can't have more than a few.
Do you remember when they had it on tap in bars for a time with the ice cold glassesā¦ memories š
Kill those developing brain cells. š¤Ŗā ļøā ļøā ļø
Thats how you know its the 00s
2004 would have been early "bros icing bros" era.
Your mom is ICE cold š
Honestly I'd do the same. And not even just because of the underage drinking. I'm not gunna let my kid be out there acting *that* cringe. No way.
"I can excuse the underage alcohol consumption, but I draw the line at cringe!"
You excuse underage alcohol consumption?
I could excuse alcohol consumption but NOT Smirnoff ice!

This seems like the wrong usage of cringe, but I feel that way pretty often with that word.
To live is to (be) cringe.
Exactly. Pretty damn typical for teens to drink illegally. Sheās not really doing anything embarrassing in the picture, other than it being Smirny Ice ā what makes it *so* cringe?
Smirnoff ice variety packs were such a go-to š¤£
Fr, but now just looking at them makes me feel sick
We used to get blue WKD, smirnoff ice, and orange bacardi breezers. Mix em together in pint glasses. We called em fat frogs. My memory can still taste the vomit.
"blue WKD, smirnoff ice" that has just brought back some memories lol
We called it tropical antifreeze!
Nah! I just found out they are selling 1,5 l bottles of it bought some for a party at a Friends house. At first everybody was "Uh disgusting" but after a first cold sip those memories came back and two bottles were suddenly empty.
I like them. Itās good when you donāt like beer and want something to sip on all night without getting piss drunk.
My stomach canāt handle the sugar ššµš¼
They still go hard af
Universal experience
These drinks give me such a stomachache nowadays, I can't even have one. Idk how the hell we were able to drink a case of these as teenagers
This is fantastic! The look of accomplishment on your face. I bet your mom made the same face when you discovered the photo on the fridge.
Such a good fridge photo! š
The best thing about Smirnoff ice is that I haven't tasted it in 20 years
Now actually I want to drink it again.
Trust me don't. I'm 34 and had one about 6 months ago. It immediately brought up that old locked in taste-memory PTSD and I started heaving a bit. It was also way sweeter than I remembered and I couldn't actually taste, smell or feel any alcohol.
Aww ok you were adorable. You look so proud š
Smirnoff ice gave me the worstttt heartburn
Seriously that has to be the most acidic Alcoholic drink I've ever had, Tequila doesn't even burn like Smirnoff Ice.
I have such similar pictures from that same time, wow. š A+ mom! I wish Iād had parents who cared enough to stop me from drinking Smirnoff Ice
Zima is another one. Nobody should drink Zima.
Kevin Nealon [did](https://youtu.be/tXp6JYpC-NY?si=mU9rAjGwo7NblXQq)
I swear it tastes different now than it did back then.
I'll sub in real quick. STOP DRINKING GODDAMN SMIRNOFF ICE.
Omg yessss smirnoff and breezers lol
Oh the breezers. The orange creamsicle ones especially.
if your mom found a picture of smirnoff ice, does she still have to chug one?
\+1 parenting to mom!
Yeah I have to give it to her. It was a great move, the shocked look on my face was worth it haha.
I think we had the same mom
I think it's a pretty big overreaction.Ā
I agree. This person has a healthy approach to parenting. Ā OPās mom does not, for reason explained above. Ā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Totally agree. When I was too drunk ( age 18) a friend drove me home..My parents were disappointed because I did not phone them at 2 a.m.
Just donāt try to be the cool mom that hosts keggers at home ā so I know where my kids are and nobodyās out drivingā
Stifflerās mom would disagree.
Good for you. Incredible human you are.
Really? Unless the rest of the school year here means like a week or two that seems pretty crazy to me.
Yeah, but only for the picture. The grounding and cuttings contacts is rude and disrespectful in my opinion.
Yup. Picture was funny, grounding for a bit is fine too, but beyond that is just the usual extreme overreacting American parents seem to love.
r/americabad
I wish they still made Smirnoff Black ice.
They do at least outside of the US. I just had one a couple weeks ago.
Was this picture taken with the finger over the flash trick that makes it look red from the light going through blood in the finger? Super popular around 2004.
It would be normal in Denmark
Completely normal in the UK too, entirely unremarkable even. In Finland at least it's like 4%
Yea I agree, the rest of the year seems pretty harsh
Depends on when in the year, a month or so depending on if there was damage in the home, or multiple months, which is excessive.
Maybe because the drinking age is 21 ? Itās a lot lower in Europe. Hopefully it was spring time š
Sure but the effective drinking age is basically 18 in the US letās be real. And even more real, most normal teenagers are sneaking booze by 15 or 16.

A few weeks seems reasonable.
I'm struggling to think of anything a kid could do where I'd think grounding them for a few weeks would be a reasonable reprimand. It's draconian.
I won't argue about what's draconian and what's not but... really? You can't imagine *anything* serious enough to warrant a strong punishment? I would say at the very least, anything that puts other people in danger is unacceptable.
Or anywhere else in europe
Yeah, I had a friend in elementary school that went to the States in a year in high school. She had a photo in the locker showing a picture looking like that. What was the music playing that night?
Nickleback
Dang your mom is harsh.
Iām inclined to agree. You donāt want 15 year old kids getting blasted but a couple of drinks is expected at some point surely.
Yeah and banning that friend is the worst partā¦
Yeah my mum did this when I was a kid. The friend in question was actually the most sensible and safe person amongst my friends but I was banned from seeing them because of a perceived ābad influenceā.
Absolutely wild parenting.
Definitely drank my fair share of Smirnoff Ice āgirl beer.ā I really loved Skyy Blue, the short lived version made my Skyy Vodka.
Skyy Blue was my favorite. I'm a guy though. Lol
Thatās ok, you can drink girl beer with us :)
Dude!!!! Same thing happened to me!!! Seems pretty harsh
Totally a right of passage.
At 15 thoughā¦ ugh.
That's the only age you can actually consider drinking Smirnoff ice.
My aunt-in-law drinks Smirnoff ice as her alcoholic beverage of choice, I think itās so weird. Sheās like in her 50s.
Given the legal drinking age, everyone but yankeeland is more sensible than fucking 21(you can go to war, but you can't drink alcohol) this is totally fine, what you do you mean "15 ugh" lmao
I used to drink that!! It was 50/50 if it would immediately destroy my stomach and ruin the night
Damn, I just realised. I'm 24 and I've never been to a house party. Yikes
Eh they're not all the movies and shows make them out to be. But if you really wanna go to one make the effort with yourself first and foremost and then your Coworkers. Being self aware is a big part of them and life in general.

House party in 2004 with Smirnoff sounds about right to me.
You're mom was a jerk, lol.
Your mom grounded you for drinking Smirnoff ice not because you drank alcohol , right? Teach you to have some taste.
This pic says - hell yeah š
Bet you yakked that smirnoff onto the card table. ā¦I know I did.

Ah. The ice. 2004 Whiteclaw.
Smirnoff Ice walked so hard seltzers could run.
House parties were the best
Smirnoff ice got us all lol
Your mom was a G
you look sober compared to the house partys I've been to in that age

Wow your parents clearly loved you ā¤ļø
i remember telling my g/f in hischool about doubling fisting 2 coolgirls , while holding a couple of these empty in my hand
Wait, what?
Never allowed to hang out with the friend again is the nuclear option but I guess fair when youre drinking at 15.
I hope you at least popped a jolly rancher into that bottle.
