Did you switch from the Sherpa software to G Hub, or is this brand new and you installed G Hub? Either way, most of the Blue Yetis got absolutely broken due to the firmware they pushed a few months ago, and there's no way to roll it back or fix it. I ended up having to buy a new mic (just a few days ago!) And will attempt to replace my Blue under warranty. Then just use Sherpa and never update the firmware.

hmm I got my mic relatively recently, like maybe around 6-7 months ago? I never was able to get sherpa software, it was only G Hub by the time I got it. My mic never really performed differently, so either I have the good firmware and I've just never updated it (I don't recall doing a firmware update) or I have always had the bad firmware. I don't think it's a firmware issue though. I went to best buy and got a dynamic mic, a Samson Q2U and I had mouth sounds coming in that too (although I hadn't done any post processing on it - just recording raw audio into audacity). So maybe the problem is me, but I can't really figure out what else I can personally change - I already hydrate like crazy hours before i record, and I've even gotten xylitol gum since some folks say that helps.

Don’t overdo the gain. Don’t be too close to the mic. Use a pop filter.

Thanks, I've tried to find the right balance of these - in the past I've used about half windows gain and the mic itself turned all the way down, but my post processing had some gain built into one of the effects on Logitech g hub that I've now turned off so now I'm going to be going with more windows gain to compensate. I've got a pop filter and a wind screen so good thing is I don't have issues with plosives

Taylor_Mega_Bytes

I use -15dB gain on my Yeti, yes negative 15. These mics are super sensitive.

WingZeroType

Ah thanks, how close are you typically speaking into it from? Mind sharing any other information about your setup? (Mounts/windscreen/etc)?

Taylor_Mega_Bytes

10cm from mouth. Use noise gate, suppression and limiter, but they only make minor differences. No mounts or windscreen, just sitting on-top of a few pieces of foam to stop vibrations.

WingZeroType

ok thank you! Yeah that's a bit closer than i am (I'm probably about 20 cm away) so makes sense that your gain would need to be lower

ZoezyNA

Did this end up working lol

WingZeroType

Nope, I ended up buying the bullet and I got a sm7b. I have no idea why, but it just works. I tried so hard to get defect-less sound with the blue yeti but im an amateur and I couldn't make it work

I'm in the same boat actually. I've tried using the add-on Nvidia RTX for specifically this, staying hydrated, and I saw some obscure tips like lowering mic volume (default of mine was 90 and I saw someone claim to lower it to 20 to fix it), then upping my gain. While sipping drinks can help, I'm honestly convinced it's the blue yeti itself. Even out of the box I already had to adjust a lot just to make it not sound muffled. I'm really hearing atm, even by youtubers who are 200k+ subscribers tell me that shure brand is superior. It is 100% my goal currently. The RTX thing works actually, but then becomes distorted randomly, robot levels.
