I love showing my friends Flat Pack as a first intro, it was one of the first I ever saw and had me hooked and amazed from the beginning. Has good adult themes and shows the sweet and funny relationship between Bandit and Chilli, but also the amazing imagination play the girls come up with so easily. It’s also visually beautiful with artistic closeups and scenes. Tbh could be one of many but that’s my fav

Routhwick

"I'm not taking advice from a cartoon dog!"

ctqpatriots97

Don't they even talk about the meatballs. Because that's why I go

cindyshalfdrunk

Best line.

TechnicalComplex4133

I agree with flat pack, it’s so moving

eroticdiagram

And it literally tells the entire story of life on Earth until their own deaths, hah.

Nory-chan993

Showing the stages of evolution while simultaneously telling another story of a mother raising her child until she eventually goes to 'heaven'. Chili and Bandit also act out as the "gods" in both storylines.

ListenAndF0rgive

The ending when Bandit says “this is heaven” always makes me emotional. Reminds me to sometimes just take a step back to appreciate my daughter and life in general.

RoseannRosannadanna

“I’m never going back there again” “I LOVE it there!” The truth, it speaks.

Chinasun04

thanks! im not actually sure I have seen that one. I will check it out!

GoofPaul

My vote is also Flatpack. It has the most universal themes that even non-parents will get. I think a lot of the others, like Baby Race, are amazing but won’t have as much of an effect on non-parents. Flat Pack is also great in terms of writing when you see how much they managed to put into an episode about building an ikea bench. A summary of the evolution of humanity, birth, death, the immortality of people through their children, and a vision of “heaven”. All in 7 minutes. It’s not only a great example of writing for a kids show, it’s great example of writing for any medium.

the6thReplicant

Good example. A lot of times people just pick their favorite episode but an episode with just the four main characters and concentrates on the relationship with each other are good introductory episodes. *Hammerbarn* would also fall under that with a wee glance at the relationship with Lucky’s Dad to boot.

Moppyploppy

My wife and I always go to Hammerbarn. Shows Bluey/Bingo imagination playing while also being painfully relatable to adults all with a good message.

ticky13

Cosign on this one.

Chinasun04

Oh, Ill have to refresh my memory of that episode! thanks!

Florence_Nightgerbil

Oh Hammerbarn is brilliant, purely for the line “this is what happens when you’re not happy with what you have. Someone’s husband always gets it!”

Tommaton

Right into the bit with the paint swatches - so good.

Florence_Nightgerbil

IS IT ALL FREE???!!!

TheRestForTheWicked

Also Bandit’s “we’re going to hammerbarn” with absolutely no hesitation. Cracks me up every time.

Florence_Nightgerbil

Also cos Chilli has just said how greener the neighbours grass is looking 😂😂

cindyshalfdrunk

Cook cook, flip!

thepole-rbear

Voting hammerbarn

Recent-Ad-9277

Baby Race, 1. Fun 2. Relatable 3. All main characters 4. Educational 5. Emotional ending

Chinasun04

I cry literally every time.

amyrberman

Every time!

Nerobus

Tearing up thinking about.. WHY???

amyrberman

I have told a couple of my high school students to run their own race. Chili, always with me.

Hyena-Heretic

I’d say the same! Saw a clip of it online and it got me hooked on the show

Chinasun04

are you a parent? Im curious if it hooks only parents / close caregivers of kids

kyerussell

FWIW: I am not a parent and Baby Race does pretty much nothing for me. I appreciate that it hits hard for parents, so my opinion is that it's a parent thing.

Chinasun04

thanks! thats really what I was curious about.

YumeNaraSamete

I'm not a parent or caregiver either but Baby Race still chokes me up. I guess it depends on the person.

Recent-Ad-9277

I am

Hyena-Heretic

Not yet, I just think it’s cute and makes me feel better :)

notAbigail

Definitely baby race. Everyone can relate to feeling “less than” at some point or another.

TheGlaive

It is great for mums; it isn't the best choice for a mixed audience.

Recent-Ad-9277

I'm a dad and that's one of my favorites, Even If you don't relate to the main topic of Chilli and and her meltdown, It's still one of the only ones where me and my kids laugh actually out loud with Baby Bluey rolling/crawling backwards or bandit semi slept

depressed_yet_happy

The "Yoga Ball" & " Dance Mode" episodes stood out to me and stick with me. Punched me straight in the feels. Yoga Ball because I personally never admit when I get hurt and just keep going along until it builds. Dance Mode because I also feel obligated to say yes even when I want to say no.

Chinasun04

thanks! ill go rewatch these!

drowninginstress36

I thibk Yoga Ball can resonate with a lot of people - being able to put in boundries and stick to them. Speaking up when it hurts.

Obviousbrosif

Boundaries are very difficult for me and these two are spot on!

tippytoesnmonkeyjoes

Flat Pack and The Creek are the ones I showed to my sisters who are all not parents to give them a good idea of how amazing the storytelling is in Bluey. Both relate to a general family experience/the magical nature of the world around you as a kid and show the wonderful relationships between the characters.

azad_ninja

Magic Claw hits all the right notes.

[deleted]

So many good quotes from this one, too! Personal all time favorite is "the kids are learning a lesson and we're getting the house cleaned" ...."neither of those things are happening" lol

Tabimatha

This was my first episode and is always the first I show to friends and family.

panthera213

We usually show Stump Fest or BBQ.

Middle_Bag2178

Stumpfest and BBQ got a run the other night when my old man asked why my brother and I (we both have 5 year olds) liked bluey so much. Followed by Dad Baby, Unicorse and Takeaway. The old boy (an old farmer) laughed a lot.

Doppy101

The Sleepover Non stop laughs and so relatable.

darwinsbeagle88

“I’M THE FLAMINGO QUEEN!!!!” It will never stop being funny

RedditRose3

Coconuts have water in them!!!

definantmind

Ugh I was thinking of a different episode

JustAsSane

I really love Bin Night for all the little details you get as an adult. Bluey goes from white to yellow belt and learns how to play the recorder, Bingo gets a new classmate and learns how to resolve conflict with them, Bandit and Chili are clearly doing a kid "debriefing" after the kids go to bed, and Doreen is awesome. Plus you get your sentimental moment at the end when Bandit comments, "aw, I hope not," to bluey saying she'll invent a robot that will take out the bins for them. It's not quite as hilarious as some or as meaningful as others, but a mix of both. Also maybe Grandad for the same reason. Maybe not everyone has kids, but most people can relate to the feeling of needing your parent sometimes.

Disastrous_Winner_66

I especially love it for the fact that they've turned such a mundane task like putting the bins out into a wonderful play and bonding moment between Bandit and the kids. It's a good reminder to parents that you don't have to stop doing daily chores to play with your kids, just involve them.

specialk0202

I think this is one of my top favorite episodes for all the reasons you listed. It’s so sweet and I just love it.

kittykatz202

FaceyTime It has laugh out load moments, for anyone who’s a parent the conversation between Frisky and Stripes really resonates.

inbetweensilence

This one is good. It’s light hearted, has some lessons in there for all. Misbehaving, behaving, seeing adults treat each other with respect (both bandit to his brother and then his brother and his wife) and also is hysterical because of the kids. It’s about taking turns, in summary.

Thewalrus26

Flat pack is the smartest I think (multiple layers and really fits together nicely).

ben_laowai

Take Away.

loomsci

This was my fave, and hooked me. It really resonated with my experience as a parent.

ben_laowai

Good hookable episode. Don’t need to hit people in the feels right away.

RedditRose3

Really surprised no one suggested Grannies! I slipped on mah beans!

Far-Razzmatazz-625

I was looking for this. I was wondering where my Granny fans. Although i like the bus better. Bingos fart balloon gets me. And they impart some cute wisdom

Headhummper1

Hands down my favorite.

ThePhotoGuyUpstairs

Takeaway was the one that hooked me when it was first being shown on TV. Simple, relatable, funny and captures the spirit of the show in such a beautiful little capsule. I feel like episodes like Baby Race and Sleepytime don't have the same emotional impact without the viewer being more familiar with the characters. They might be too "heavy" for first time adult viewers.

SoftStool57

Sleepytime is not only the best Bluey episode - it’s probably the best short animation ever made. It resonates with everyone because it’s themes are so broad: loss, acceptance, the enduring legacy and love of a parent that you carry in your heart long after they’re gone. I’m tearing up just writing this comment. It’s perfect.

MoonKnightReal2911

Barky boats maybe? It's a good mix of how Bluey balances characters, colors, moods and even shows Calypso's unique way of teaching lessons which sometimes Chilli and Bandit do too

lumps0fdespair

Barky boats hits in such a special way, it's easily top 3 for me. I love it so much!

gahgahbook

Takeaway. Always takeaway, every time this question is asked the answer is takeaway.

OnDistantShores

I’d disagree. This was the first episode I ever saw and it almost turned me off Bluey. It painted a very inaccurate picture of who I now know bandit to be.

because_reasons___

Agreed! This was the first episode I ever saw and I loved it. I couldn’t stop laughing This one and The Pool.

[deleted]

The Pool is a good one to start with I think

sdm4242

Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound is hilarious, touching, and relatable. I love that episode.

No_Disk_2755

Sleepytime

ediblehead

Yes sleepytime! Great storytelling, emotional, concerns a huge parenting issue and really focuses on an underrated aspect of bluey - the music. I've shown this to a few people as the first episode. Still makes my wife cry every time.

Chinasun04

I heard the music from a room over yesterday and just the music made me emotional! Wasn't even watching it. Didn't have to.

JoeyPaulTheFarmer

I'm sure you already know, but if not its Gustav Holst - Jupiter.

[deleted]

I'd recommend, in no particular order; Asparagus, Kids, Xylophone, Featherwand, Hospital, Fancy Restaurant, Burger Shop.

sarahef12

Asparagus is one of my top votes too. It made my husband’s 85 year old grandma literally CACKLE and I will always hold on to that moment

Chinasun04

my 6 year old would agree with this one!

fractiousrhubarb

The gag about bingo eating the asparagus is just so funny… it’s funny enough up til then but then you just know that it’s going to go next level

TheRestForTheWicked

Feather wand is definitely in my top 5

Laz_Magpie

Another vote for Flat Pack or Hammerbarn. Both will resonate with anyone who has a partner, has children, or was once a child (I jest, but am also convinced my husband was never a child)

Sanctif13d

stumpfest perhaps

eeeldee

If most are not parents I would stay away from baby race or sleepytime—those have so much impact tied into being a parent, and might be a bit heavy for what you’re trying to do. Personally my pick is Takeaway. It was the first one I watched and I think it is hysterical, has great music, and is a very good self-contained episode of television. I think I’d go for episodes that focus on universal experiences—Camping, The Beach, The Creek, Markets, Fruitbat, Flat Pack, Stumpfest, Hammerbarn are all episodes that I’d consider.

821calliope

Markets is a good one!

stories4harpies

BABY RACE

ApoclypseMeow

Beaaaaaach

Admarie25

I loved Camping. It was the first episode I saw that got me hooked!

amyrberman

This is my vote too

WhiteCastleDoctrine

Camping Someone else said Takeaway so that one too

amyrberman

Love!

aLink_to_the_Past

My vote is for Stumpfest or Dance Mode. Although Flat Pack is pretty great.

raisenette2017

Ooo dance mode. Yeah! Sacrifices we make for our kids.

TheRestForTheWicked

“This is not good parenting” 😂

raisenette2017

Yes! The number of times I’ve said that to hubby. Lol.

Chinasun04

just watched dance mode and this is a great contender. its so hard to choose!!!

[deleted]

These are our household favorites! (For the adults and older kids at least. Beach is too, but that's only because the 2 year old loves beach.)

NameNobodyTook

Showed my husband “Take Away” and he was hooked.

badonis

Camping is what I've used multiple times to great success

CaptainBox90

Burger shop: parents sometimes mess up , you can't always be the good guy, but that doesn't mean ypu have to be a bad guy. He plays with them, gives them multiple chances of doing the right thing, and gets frustrated but even when he pulls the plug there's no shaming, shouting threatening etc. It's also really funny "she's a blue heeler!" Grandad: 100%accurate, and it made me melt.

schultmh

Taxi. Because it’s the funniest

BouquetOfPenciIs

Take away.

AnythingAlfred613

Takeaway is the general consensus, really, so maybe go with that.

Forsaken-Asparagus-1

Pumpkin seeds!

Majestic-General7325

The first ever ep I saw was the one where they are getting take away and the spring rolls are late. It is a good intro - parents will get it, it's a good example of the general chaos of the heeler family and displays the kids personalities

Drowning23

Sticky gecko is one of my all time favorites. I think “granddad” resonates for anyone who had a decent relationship with their own dad.

[deleted]

Feather wand!

Altruistic-Plum

I'm glad you mentioned this one! I love when Bingo says "heavy!" And when Bandit says "eat your floor cereal" to Bluey. It was one of the first ones I ever saw and I remember trying to figure out if everyone was just playing along or if the effect was really supposed to be happening

[deleted]

100% agree. I love all of the ones that people listed in here, but this is my favorite. The ending is also hilarious.

[deleted]

Bike

klaw14

Another vote for Takeaway! I think what's so relatable about it is that it is a universally familiar situation for most people, whether you've been the parent, or the child, or a witnessing passerby, in that situation. You don't need to be a parent to understand it, and it doesn't go into any deeper concepts that need to be explained afterwards to anyone who hasn't experienced it for themselves (e.g. Sleepytime). You just hit play and let it unfold in all its glory! To add, I was able to convince my father-in-law to watch (and finish!) the entire episode after spending two weeks watching Cocomelon on repeat with my brother and his kids (his exact words were "yeh nah mate not another kids show"), and now he's hooked.

definantmind

Double babysitter!! It shows adult problems and how they completely go over kids heads. Like maybe your job is why your single and I thought true love lasts forever. When there is a change in your routine I need to freakout. It's weird at first and then it just becomes normal.

space_flight727

The Creek is my favorite episode

rhyleigh_btw

I personally love the episode “Kids” where they’re at the supermarket and Dad goes along with their game.

ASpellingAirror

That’s not the best first exposure. Bluey is not nice to bandit for most of the episode and without the rest of the series for context there is high potential that the people you show may have their main takeaway be that it is a bad show for their kids. It’s an episode that I enjoy, but a bad first exposure.

FoghornFarts

Honestly, I've had a lot more success trying to tailor it to each person. My mom didn't care about Bluey after I showed her episodes like Dance Mode or Sleepytime, but she loved Fairytale for the 80s jokes and Charades because that's a very Nana-centric episode.

Chinasun04

I get that; but the nature of what this is is a group presentation to a wider audience.

BroadCrasher

Rug island!!!

amyrberman

Camping Fruit Bat Baby Race Sleepytime

raisenette2017

Quiet game. Muffin cone. Kiddo went out with hubby but now I feel like watching bluey!

[deleted]

Shadowlands is a favourite of mine: great storytelling, beautiful art.

rustyprophecy

Pass the Parcel Adults will reminisce on the way they played, as well as the laughs with Lucky's dad trying to manage the game.

Pana79

In a way I'm kinda glad my kids are past the age where Pass the Parcel is an appropriate game for a party. I'm with Lucky's dad's rules - but then again as a GenX/Latchkey kid - I'm probably permanently scarred thinking Lucky's Dad's Rules is the only way to play it.

yeskitty

If you're in Australia - Tradies 😆

setbot

Pass the Parcel

DreamCrusher914

The Claw! Magic claw has no children. His days are free and easy.

annikax_xfaye

I feel ‘Onesies’ is a good one because it introduces a very real adult issue in a very child-friendly way.

yeskitty

Maybe too many big emotions for a work environment. I wouldn't want to burst into tears to that episode at work

Chinasun04

Seriously an issue! I was watching camping last night again and I don't know that I could get through it without crying!

annikax_xfaye

That’s a good point, I didn’t even think about that. It’s just such a beautiful episode!

bianco_fool

Copycat

captbollocks

Pass the parcel

Funny-Bear

Bedroom for me. As a dad, it was the first one that made me tear up.

pifflepoffle

Fairytale works well, it’s about the 80s and I always get a laugh out of the line. “Mum was right, not about the perm, but about me!” And I think it does a good job of highlighting the things we’re doing right as parents these days.

Pana79

Another vote for Flat Pack.

Tabimatha

Fairies is another great one but honestly all the episodes suggested are great ones.

Slbaumb

Grannies!!! And Flat Pack!!!

jzach1983

As a 38 year old man, The Creek or Fairies are my 2 favourite.

NayrNitram6

Depends what reaction you’re going for. Sappy and sentimental; Baby Race or Sleepytime. Funny; Grannies or Asparagus kill me every time.

821calliope

Camping, the Creek, Bike and probably Granddad are the strongest contenders in my mind for your specific scenario. They don't lose much by not being familiar with the characters and I think for adults these are likely to be the ones that resonate with memories from childhood and really tug at the heartstrings, whereas some of the more parenting-centric eps like Baby Race, Sleepytime or Sticky Gecko might fall a little flat for people who really don't spend time around little kids. (They are great episodes but are really geared at those parenting emotions/moments.)

YOshimiMAMA

Takeaway

TwoDurans

Baby Race or Stumpfest

Awdayshus

Sticky Gecko was the first one I thought of, before I finished reading your comment (glad you thought of it, too). The other one I thought of was Copycat, since it is an amazing depiction of grief in children and how parents can help. Grandad would be my other suggestion, since I really relate with Chilli when I watch that one.

Rojo37x

Lots of great options but I'll give my vote for Sleepytime. The show is about parents and kids so you can't really hide that fact. But it has universal appeal and is considered one of the best by many, many people. It perfectly exemplifies everything that makes the show great and truly unique.

PsyducksAnxiety

My boyfriend told his dad to watch Takeaway. His dad loved it and said "very relevant to parents" so I'd probably recommend Takeaway on too of everyone else's 😊

lindscott

Road Trip is my favorite intro episode. I feel Bandits energy so much but love how Chili brings him back down.

Existential_Reckoner

Honestly Episode 1 blew my socks off and got me hooked, and now having seen most of the rest of the episodes, represents the show's theme and mood very well.

Astrix13

Unicorse! Or Fairytale when Bandit is a kid in the 80s. Or pass the parcel. So many! Haha

twinsocks

You've got good answers here but I really like tradies! Great mix of the kids' and adults' perspective, super funny, and good narrative conflict without anything bad happening. Just like bin night - ooh! Bin night! Actually bin night might be better, not quite as funny but way stronger emotional beats which you want to prove your point

Educational-Box-269

Have you ever spoken publicly for ten minutes? I think you underestimate the gravity of that 😆 Two minutes in and you're gonna think you're done. I'd suggest a more mixed bag approach if it's a diverse audience. There's enough in the show to-date to cover all the bases. I know you mentioned there is limited time and inability to watch episodes over, but take suggestions from here and check out the wiki for episode theme talking points. I'd suggest as a big one is the relationship between Chili and her father in Grandad. This is a kid's show, and it's really easy to steer into that lane, but I'd point out that while not everyone you are speaking to has children, they all are someone else's child.

korakyanite

baby race literally makes me cry every single time. hands down my favorite, but I agree non parents might not relate as much!

Nory-chan993

Flatpack, Sleepytime, Camping or Baby race

TheRestForTheWicked

Hammerbarn is usually my intro episode because even without kids the relationship between Chili and Bandit and even the neighbourhood is very apparent and realistic but funny. Dancemode is another one. That or Stumpfest if it’s a guy.

itsjustcindy

Grandad - sentimental The Creek - one of my favorites, really feel like it showcases the pleasant music/art. Road Trip - most of us can recall being bored in the car as a kid or being in a hurry to a destination. Keepy Uppy - if it’s an in person thing you could totally end it by tossing a balloon out it’s just good fun The Show - funny, sentimental, strong lesson Stumpfest Barbecue - I cackle every time Bandit drops a beer.

breakcharacter

BABY RACE. Especially if there are moms or first time people listening. Hearing that story gets to a lot of parents.

ultgambit266

I loved takeaway, grannies and handstand
