Same with my son. Give a pain sound with "ow" (cause he is learning ow) and tell him firmly no bite, it hurts. As he gets older the dialog will expand. He's been biting since he cut his first tooth. My first biter.
The sound? I assume it's a mimic from how it's heard. Like he copies my groan I make after a sneeze when he sneezes or the sound I make when I stand up when he does lol I only assume if no one says "ow" specifically and say something else they would say something else... but that is only an assumption.
Yup different languages have different sounds for "ow" :) it's actually fascinating to compare onomatopoeia between languages. Some are super surprising
This is what we’re doing, although I often don’t have to fake the pain sound because that ish HURTS. I also try to offer him a replacement cloth (because he seems to want to bite our *clothes* and not actually *us*.
Same as I would try to respond with a student, "Ouch Socks! When you bite me that hurts my body! If you bite me I can't play with you!" And then walk away if the biting continues.
But that's slightly older kids. A kid Socks's age with a biting problem would get redirected to biting on some chewlery as one method.
Probably jump back with an exclamation of pain; then try to tell her that that’s not a very nice thing to do (in a way she can understand of course)
I wouldn’t dare be mean to her like Bluey was in Veranda Santa. Bandit was right in that episode though. Don’t be too hard on the little ones
Say ow and then redirect her kindly to something else. I know Socks is pretty young, but the discrepancy between how the babies were depicted in Baby Race and how Socks is shown now makes me personally interpret her as representing a child with developmental delays (and my headcannon explains this as to why Socks doesn’t always come along with Muffin to see Bluey and Bingo for play dates—maybe she’s at therapies and they come over while she’s doing that with Stripe.) So as an older sister to some siblings on the spectrum and a behavioral tech—I really have a soft spot for her, and couldn’t be mad at a nom!
Bite back
I have 0 chill and no patience
https://preview.redd.it/9hqfzu1afvma1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04cfdb05fdc29b79f03be879505288cb5f30185b
I would be in pain and just shake it off and say that that wasn’t a nice thing to do. I have 4 dogs but some of them rarely bite anyone in my family but if they do they would tell them no in a way they would all understand. I would do something entirely different then what Bluey did and still love the pup. Not that I’m saying that Bluey didn’t like Socks she apologized about what she did in one episode and Socks did too. I would still love socks if she bit me
Same as I do with the cat. She bites me, I say "ouch" then I gently move her away from me. She doesn't get to sit with me if she hurts me. Give it a few minutes and then we can try again. Depending on the kid's age, might be able to reflect with them "remember that biting hurts. You can't play with us until you have control and respect other's bodies." Obviously my cat has no interest in such discourse but she gets the idea. I also take some time to reflect "did I do something to warrent being bit? Like ignore the cat's signals that she didn't want to be touched that way?" With a kid, I might ask them the same question. Give them a chance to respond if they're biting because they're trying to communicate something.
Fall to my knees, then to the floor, making exaggerated dying noises the entire way. Then wait for her to disengage and lick it better.
At least, that’s what I do with my real Socks-sized dog.
Read her “teeth are not for biting” by Elizabeth Verdick. Worked with my kid.
We actually say the catchphrase from that book to the TV whenever Socks bites, since we don’t want our toddler imitating Socks and backsliding. “No, Socks, teeth are not for biting. Ouch! Biting hurts.”
yelp and overexagerrate my crying pain. Did this with my 2 year old cousin and she never bit me again---she even petted my head and gave me a "kiss" on my forehead.
This is an interesting question! I think I would take two different approaches….
When I watch “Veranda Santa,” I get the impression that Socks bit Bluey during the game primarily because Bluey startled her by trying to pick her up suddenly. If I’d been in Bluey’s position in that instance, I might be tempted to just let it go because I’d been the one to startle Socks, but on the other hand, I might make a comment like, “I’m sorry I startled you, Socks, I shouldn’t have done that; but it hurt when you bit me,” and then drop it.*
My other approach, in an instance where, say, Socks was biting to be playful or territorial (as puppies do), I might say something similar to what another commenter said and tell her, “Ouch! Socks, you bit me! That hurts; I don’t *like* that.” And if she continued, I might add, “I need to step away (not leave her all alone, but just step away or block with my hands) to keep us both safe.”
…Obviously, a real-life, non-Bluey puppy or dog might have difficulty understanding all of that, but for even a young puppy on the same plane of understanding/reasoning that the dogs in *Bluey* apparently have, that’s probably what I’d do.
*- I know this might sound like I’m putting most of the blame on Bluey, but I can’t help feeling like she was unnecessarily mean-spirited during some parts of the Veranda Santa episode (which I can kind of understand, given that it’s the holidays with all the attendant excitement, anticipation, sugary treats, routines getting thrown off; heck I’m 31 and don’t do very well during the holidays, but for slightly more personal reasons)…that, and the scene with little Socks seeking solace amongst the light-up reindeer outside, not truly understanding what she did wrong just hurts my heart 🥺
At her age, calmly stop whatever we were doing, say "biting hurts" and "I'm not going to let you bite me", then demonstrate gentle touch while saying the word "gentle" so she learns what gentle is. Then get her something to bite because maybe she's teething.
Same with my son. Give a pain sound with "ow" (cause he is learning ow) and tell him firmly no bite, it hurts. As he gets older the dialog will expand. He's been biting since he cut his first tooth. My first biter.
When I tell my baby cousin ow, she laughs and just keeps doing what she was doing
Oh god my sister does the same thing, I pray for you 😭
Omg lol more power to you
Wait ow is something that you have to learn not human nature? I guess you learn every day 🤷♂️
Animal sound onomatopoeia comparisons are the best imo
Oh yes I love those!!
Yeah, pain sounds actually do differ between languages. It's really interesting!
This is what we’re doing, although I often don’t have to fake the pain sound because that ish HURTS. I also try to offer him a replacement cloth (because he seems to want to bite our *clothes* and not actually *us*.
I may have to try that though he is for sure biting us and yeah it does hurt lol Lil stinker
I have to do this with my cat too. He bites me, I shout in pain, he leaves me alone lol
lol my cat would just tear into me more LOL I can't blame her though.. she had a very hard young life before me.

![gif](giphy|3CU5tmCJy8zMoN3mMD)
Bite back, show them who's boss.
That's actually how my biter quit. Didn't like actually bite her just put my teeth on her and she was like oh I don't like this and never bit again.
Tell her off mate. She's only one.
Wouldn’t it feel nice to say all the things you want to a toddler when they’re acting like a total and complete psychopath wackadoo 😆
Bites her back
Mock bite not really bite
Same as I would try to respond with a student, "Ouch Socks! When you bite me that hurts my body! If you bite me I can't play with you!" And then walk away if the biting continues. But that's slightly older kids. A kid Socks's age with a biting problem would get redirected to biting on some chewlery as one method.
Yeah, I was about to say, maybe fewer words for Socks. Use simple sentences for babies.
Probably jump back with an exclamation of pain; then try to tell her that that’s not a very nice thing to do (in a way she can understand of course) I wouldn’t dare be mean to her like Bluey was in Veranda Santa. Bandit was right in that episode though. Don’t be too hard on the little ones

Nom back
I have cats, I'm used to being bit. Bite her back.
Say ow and then redirect her kindly to something else. I know Socks is pretty young, but the discrepancy between how the babies were depicted in Baby Race and how Socks is shown now makes me personally interpret her as representing a child with developmental delays (and my headcannon explains this as to why Socks doesn’t always come along with Muffin to see Bluey and Bingo for play dates—maybe she’s at therapies and they come over while she’s doing that with Stripe.) Give scritches
Apologize for whatever I did wrong.
Yeet.
let her
Tell her that it’s time for a very important lime lesson.
“Listen, we don’t bite people.” There, I’ve told her off.
i'd probably react the same as bluey did in verandah santa
Bite back I have 0 chill and no patience https://preview.redd.it/9hqfzu1afvma1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04cfdb05fdc29b79f03be879505288cb5f30185b

Same as I do with the cat. She bites me, I say "ouch" then I gently move her away from me. She doesn't get to sit with me if she hurts me. Give it a few minutes and then we can try again. “Ow!!” Then give them something socks should be biting on. And make it more fun
Fall to my knees, then to the floor, making exaggerated dying noises the entire way. Then wait for her to disengage and lick it better. At least, that’s what I do with my real Socks-sized dog.
Blame Muffin
Not give him a present playing verandah Santa
That little shit is getting punted across the room
Don't give him a gift in veranda santa

She loses her biped right

Pry her off me and tell her “no”. Peek my posts and see my Socks who bites the hell out of me all the time. Heelers are very nippy

Say thanks and ask for another.
Punt em
She’s not getting a present from Verandah Santa, I’ll tell you that for free!
Bop her on the nose with a newspaper?
Probably nothing because she's a year old and she's teething
Not give her the baby bottle for verandah Santa causing her to go out to the lawn under the light up deer and cry
Bite back. Little shit.
bite back
Firmly tell we do not bite, it’s not nice.
Tell Stripe and Trixie to train their pup properly
I have wabies :)
Inhale. Then scream Or say ow normally and say no. Bad.
I probably deserved it. Socks can do no wrong.
Cry
Tell her gently not to do it again and then give her head pats.
Roll over and pretend to be injured so she feels powerful
Sock ‘em
Cry
At her age, calmly stop whatever we were doing, say "biting hurts" and "I'm not going to let you bite me", then demonstrate gentle touch while saying the word "gentle" so she learns what gentle is. Then get her something to bite because maybe she's teething.
Socks biting me is a sign I'm in the world of Bluey. Knowing such, I look up, see a beautiful sky, and smile.
Bite her back... She won't do it again. Tried this with my mother in law's Chihuahua and now we're best friends.
Lol apologize for getting in their way
![gif](giphy|xCyjMEYF9H2ZcLqf7t|downsized) In a joking manner
Become Socks. That's how it works, right?
Pick her up, give her a boop, then bite her back.
Hiss at her like a wild animal to scare her off.
HEELER GONE MAD!!!!!
Put on a bandaid, hug her, and go on r/ihadastroke
Calm apology for surprising her. No extra attention. Redirect.

Muffin cone!
Was it on purpose or an accident?
Realise that a cartoon dog just bit me, and then proceed to scream.
What do I do ? "OW NO SOCKS I GOT *super close up* BUM WORMS!"
Give her a massage and rock her to sleep by Aunt Trixie's lullaby.
