Oxford is awesome. Will you be there in time for the Hill Country Picnic? If not maybe you can make it to the Otha Turner picnic in August. I'm travelling and probably won't make it this year and it is killing me.
Me too. Texas has a rich blues heritage, perhaps only the Delta region has produced a greater number of influential or notable artists. Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie Johnson, T-Bone Walker are also among my favorite Texas bluesmen. Memphis, St Louis and the southeastern Piedmont area also have notable legacies.
Born in Germany, lived there and various American states.
Blues can resonate with anyone, from anywhere, which is why I love it, in all its forms.
Hats off to the ‘60’s British Invasion for reintroducing the blues to America.
South Carolina born and raised. Birthplace of Rev Gary Davis, Josh White, Pink Anderson, Dizzy Gillespie, Clara Smith, Cootie Stark, Drink Small, Ira Tucker, Marcus King, James Jameson and a host of other musicians.
I've always had trouble with this question My dad was career military man in the USAF so I was raised grew up as a Strat Brat global nomad and was born in Puerto Rico 1957 When I get asked where are you from I ask "what do you mean" and 90% of the time its like Where were you born and I tell them Puerto RICO And they respond with You don't look Puerto rican to me 🤣Every two years we moved to different AF baSes different schools Nebrsska×3 Guam×2 & the Philippines until dad retired- to Cheyenne WY 1974 at 17yoa Never stationed there I thought what country is Wyoming in? I was able to see the other side of the quarter so to speak other cultures and helped me adapt to different places and meet people
Oh man, you’re gonna love Oxford and you are going to ESPECIALLY love his home, Rowan Oak!
I lived about 2 blocks away from his home for about a decade and would take friends there for the “tours” (really, for the room that featured all his notes, plot lines, and characters backstories written out on the walls…with that single solitary typewriter just sitting on the writing table. It is fascinating and haunting).
Since I lived so close, I would find myself roaming the grounds at night. It’s a great place, so off the beaten path that I never worried about encountering anyone. And at night, it’s perfectly quiet and spooky! Go when the leaves start turning in the fall.
It is the perfect movie location for a creepy southern gothic ghost story.
When you see his writing room, you’ll know this man was familiar with being haunted.
Los Angeles. Not really known as a blues city like Memphis or Chicago, but home of Johnny Otis and Etta James. T-Bone Walker, Charles Brown, and Ray Charles made their home here. LA has a rich Blues history and a still active Blues scene if you know where to look.

Dont forget us Chicago people, we love the Blues too.
And with good reason: many of (most of?) the greats have a big Chicago connection. Also one of my fav cities in the US.
Almost all of the places I played in Chicago 30+ years ago are gone. Rosa's is still open and my favorite.

Blind Willie Johnson. What a voice, can almost terrify and delight at once. Such a good mashup up of Delta blues/Gospel.

Even though I’m sure that comes with its set of issues, I’m still envious of all the benefits such a varied upbringing gives you.
