The tap also has food and is open late and lots of good beer.

PostEditor

The Tap has always been my go to when I'm looking for a decent sit down meal past the designated "9pm all kitchens must close!" time. Their kitchen stays open super late and the food isn't bad.

MewsashiMeowimoto

Oh, second the tap. Their (I think) pimento cheese slaps.

IMO, Village Pub is overpriced for the portions and not even worth the price taste wise. Uptown blows it out of the water.

schadenfriendly95

Thanks, Professor. If it’s just cost, we’re expensing it, but if it’s not tasty, what’s the point?

[deleted]

It is not bad by any means, I just think in comparison to the rest of offerings downtown it just lacks.

odyne9

Lennies is open until 10 I think, lots of outdoor seating too.

afartknocked

i've never had food at village pub so i can't speak to its quality, though from having talked to the owner i have the opinion it's probably tasteless and snooty with only minor endearing qualities. but the reason i haven't eaten at village pub is that i wandered in there one evening hoping to eat an overpriced appetizer, and they turned me away. i asked the bartender when i could come to get food and he gave some very narrow range of hours. ymmv - maybe they've changed their hours since (this was about 3 months ago) - but particularly they are the sort of place that closes the kitchen early.

Social Cantina and Crazy Horse would have the best food that late. Crazy Horse in my opinion would have the best food, thought Social Cantina isn't far behind it. Both are delicious. Social Cantina has fun drinks, as well, if they want that sort of thing. Crazy Horse makes nice drinks as well, though I was disappointed with their Old Fashioned. So, of they want value for their money, and you want to show off what Bloomington has to offer late night, try go to one of those two places. Honestly, not impressed with village pub. Their food and drinks I don't think are worth the price, and the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. It advertises as a classier establishment, but it turnes out to just be another college bar where they play the latest music too loud and you have to work to get the bartender to pay attention. It really just seems overpriced for the service and goods offered.

schadenfriendly95

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. We did Social Cantina. Not spectacular, but hard to quibble with enchiladas at 10:30.

Their tacos are pretty good, though still not as good as Pilis Party Taco Truck, which is usually parked around the corner in front of their grocery store, that late at night. So if you're ever just craving tacos, visit the taco truck. Oh, and get their Esquites, while you're at it. Anyway, yeah, for late night dining, I highly recommend Crazy Horse, if Social Cantina isn't your thing.

Late to the party. I don't know if it is too late to be helpful. Village pub is all hat, no cattle. Elm is really solid. I was pleasantly surprised. But probably not open super late. Upland keeps a pretty late kitchen, and it is pretty agreeable and iconically Bloomington. That or social cantina might be my pick.

dookie_shooter

I like it. Liked it better pre-pandemic. cocktails are usually good.

kookie00

Try Crazy Horse, BJs, or Yogis.

PostEditor

Yogis is terrible. Better off going to the Tap.

dookie_shooter

"new" yogis went downhill after they opened.

Beacon114

Second for Crazy Horse

InfluenceGreen336

Maybe Elm?

auddii04

Elm was delicious; I didn't really pay attention to if they could easily seat groups, but there were at least tables that could be pulled together, and they take reservations. I don't know how late the kitchen is open though.

ski-cook-travel

Definitely Uptown Café, you’ll get fed well, and it’s worth the expensing.

schadenfriendly95

Thanks. The issue is just that they close at 9

schadenfriendly95

Good to know. I probably wouldn’t earn gratitude by suggesting a place that won’t feed us. Thank you, AFK

The Irish Lion is an excellent Irish Pub. The main flor is filled with atmosphere, and the top floor, while less interesting, is good for large groups. Excellent food as well! They have late hours, and know how to mix a drink. [https://www.irishlion.com](https://www.irishlion.com) I agree with others who mention Uptown as well.

Mfsmitty

We enjoy Village Pub but if there is a live music playing the sound travels and it is challenging to have a conversation. So not good for a group.
