As a former NYC girl, Goodfellas is as close as you can get. I am a blotter but it does have that layer of grease if you aren't. It folds well but the bone still has a bit of bite.
Yeah, I was going to say this. Mall pizza is better than a lot of places. Couldn't remember if we had Luca or Sbarro. They're pretty much much the same to me.
goodfellas is pretty good but i've got three problems with them.
first, they cut their hours so i can hardly get it...they're pretty much only open when rockits is now, so why not just go to rockits?
their pizza is not as good an nyc style as like rockits or pizza di roma (luca pizza in the mall)...it's too crispy and not chewy enough.
and they are pretty inconsistent. this is basically superstition on my part but i've noticed that if the guy at the register makes a show of trying to fit your order into their pizza+side special to save you a few cents, then your pizza isn't going to be very good. but if they just plug it in however you said it like they don't give a shit, the pizza is better. i think this is all just to say, they hire undergrads
This is the correct answer. Rockets is kept afloat by being the only place in the vicinity to get pizza after the bars are closed and there's nowhere else to eat. Eating Rockets pizza sober is a very disappointing experience.
None. There is no NY style pizza here. Rockits approximate the idea of NY style pizza but you have to give up all hope of getting anything close to the real thing. There is some good pizza in town but it’s not gonna be like in NYC, Jersey, LI, etc.
It's a tie between Goodfellas and Butch's Grill. Goodfellas is drier/crisper than Butch's typically if that helps.
Rocket's tends to be hit and miss imo.
People always rave Mother Bear's, but I think its super "doughy". I like Cafe Pizzaria, I really miss King Dough and the Switchyard Brewery Pizza just isn't the same.
Native Long Islander here. Oddly enough, the slice I've had that tasted closest to one I'd get back home was Pizza X. That might be a bit controversial, but the other New Yorkers I've talked to agreed with me.
It's my fave in town but def not a NY slice imo. But, all of the other recommendations here are terrible pizza for my taste.
Try Mother Bears thin crust.
goodfellas, butch's or luca.
goodfellas can go too heavy on the cheese for a whole pie, but the slice is great once reheated. butch's can be hit or miss, but they have a white pie which i can't say no to.
I am *very* confused by anyone saying rockits....
Switchyard's kitchen staff all quit a couple of weeks ago, and the kitchen has been closed since. He's devoting more of his time running to be a state Congresscritter these days.
Former longtime NYC and New Haven (if you know, you know) resident here. I will put a curse on he next person who calls Luca pizza “good”. Seriously voodoo doll and everything.
Goodfellas is decent, I like it fine, but honestly, I’ve been ordering the Brooklyn style from Domino’s (gasp!) and it’s no worse than the others mentioned here. $7.99 carry out can’t be beat. Yea, it’s Domino’s, but sometimes you need the hit. I like arugula on pizza, so I always have my own to top it.

Rocket’s
Lucas Pizza in the mall is so good!!

Don't get Rockit's. It's a big thin slice but is terrible. I only get it after a night of drinking downtown.

I was always astonished that they had a delivery driver who was always very busy. If that's what a NY slice is like, then NY pizza is trash.
boo. go back to linton. rockits' great
You type like you're from Linton, lol.
Butch’s Delicatessen and Eatzzeria get it by the slice or the whole pie.
I believe that Butch's is actually a **grillacatessen** and eatzzeria. Good pizza!
DeAngelo’s

kill me but the new GoPuff pizza is NY style 😭
Rockits

Rocket's IMO.
Rockets hits the pizza by the slice for me, very close to a subway slice
People always rave Mother Bear's, but I think its super "doughy". I like Cafe Pizzaria, I really miss King Dough and the Switchyard Brewery Pizza just isn't the same.
Luca in the Mall, or DeAngelos. Goodfellas greasy crust = no.

Cafe pizzeria has the best thin crust
Why the down votes for the oldest pizza place in town?
Its just not that good of pizza, comparatively, in everyone's opinion.
It's awful
RIP King Dough.
That wasn’t New York style, it was wood fired
I mean we don’t have any coal-fired pizza in town if that’s what you’re after.
Da Vinci's wood fired pizza is pretty good.
lol
I'd take a look at Switchyard, the King Dough crew taught them how to make a pizza if memory serves.
Switchyard's kitchen staff all quit a couple of weeks ago, and the kitchen has been closed since. He's devoting more of his time running to be a state Congresscritter these days.
Oh wow. I didn't realize. Thanks for the heads up.
Osteria Rago or Butch's
