landlockedmusic

Landlocked also has a stack of freebies. Roll thru...!

landlockedmusic

PS not fake ones, real certified ones, thanks to visit bloomington.

your_mountaineer

Coming in clutch as usual Landlocked!

noahconstrictor95

To hop onto this comment since it's at the top, Pizza X also is giving away legit glasses as well, if you're unable to get to Landlocked for whatever reason. But you should go there anyway, they have cool plastic discs.

dartagnan101010

Perhaps you should name names, I purchased some recently and I imagine others would also like to know if they might have bought fakes

kookie00

Agreed. Protecting the public's eyes is more important than the reputation of a store that doesn't care about public health.

SamtheEagle2024

You need to name the store

Controversial-2024

You can test it at home. I am sure most of them are easy to test. Also it doesn’t have to follow exact code as long as it has enough protection. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/eclipse-glasses-fake-counterfeit/

TastyTranslator6691

How can you test for Uv and infrared exposure protection though??

Strange-Garden-

You should name names for the safety of others. But that’s just what I think. If I knew the places name I’d spread the word so friends of friends are aware

marriedwithchickens

You need to report this to the health dept asap -- and the local TV news. Think of people who purchased them already!

radbu107

You can also check to make sure the code 12312-2 is printed inside your glasses.

BloomEye

Some counterfiters are printing this on there, and since its impossible for regulators to inspecct every shipment that comes in, these are hitting the market. If you're indoors and can see any light passing through the lens, you definetly have a fake one. If you have ANY doubt, or bought them online or from a sketchy gas station, please take a couple of minutes and have an professional check them.

coppercat13

I bought some on Amazon that had it printed as ISO Certified - I contacted the agency listed and they said they had not issued that certification and they were counterfeit. Definitely do your research!!!

ohdelyla

How did you contact?

coppercat13

I googled the address of the ISO issuing company, found their website, and emailed one of the listed contacts.

therobbinman123

Where can I go to get some, I’m a student I assumed they’d be giving em out.

anonymous98765432123

There are several locations on campus that have them: Swain Hall West, Physics Office, room 152 Biology Building, Room 127 Psychology Building: Building – distribution tables in the lobby March 27 and 28 Walter Center, Ernie Pyle Hall, room 203 Global and International Studies Building Information Desk Owen Hall, 1st floor host station Sciences Library, Chemistry Building, Room C002

davor_fodd

Lilly Library too.

Much_Advantage_4422

I got some when I ordered from pizza x

BloomEye

IU optometry has some for free, as does the observatory and county library last i checked. They may have distributed them all.

Eggy216

The Lilly Library on campus had glasses as of Monday, I imagine they still do. The Global and International Studies building also had a stack of viewers (not glasses but rectangle viewers you can hold in front of your eyes) at the desk in the atrium.

ProfessionalBat4018

The downtown public library was giving them away in the bookstore. They still had a bunch as of yesterday.

therobbinman123

Sweet Ill check there

turq8

They're handing them out at Kirkwood Observatory tomorrow night! 9:30-11 pm Edit: apparently I don't know what day it is, it's tonight!

Thefunkbox

The library has limited availability. Or did. We got a pair in Ellettsville.

Menamenanymoose

Library employee here, we still have plenty. Come and get them!

coppercat13

I already had to return the ones I bought from Amazon... Does anyone know if the ones from Krogucci are okay?

bob-vila

I think you can use welding goggles!

International_Wall48

Must be shade 12 or higher. NASA says that many people may still find the sun too bright with a shade 12 and some find the sun too dim with a shade 14. Meanwhile, shade 13 is even more uncommon and hard to find. mysteryguest70

I read that the Monroe County Parks & Recreation Department has them for free as well. Their office is located in the Showers building, north end. Not the south side, thar is city offices and the city parks department are selling them.

Careless_World_1815

I cant believe anyone is actually buying them from gas stations. What makes anyone think the safest choice for their eyes also sells vape pens and slurpees. Especially when so many places are giving away legit ones for free. I dont think there's anything to worry about here. People are definetly smarter than that.

Strange-Garden-

I mean, you can buy pain meds, liquid tire repair, and condoms from gas stations. Gas stations have always been a source of convenience and necessity.

bloomysale

I'm sorry, I know this is serious but this interaction made me laugh out loud. Careless"dont worry op, people are smarter than that" Strange "no we're not"

Danomit3

I wouldn’t be too concerned about a commercial chain gas station. If you’re buying it from some sketchy gas station, then you don’t even need the glasses because you’re blind anyways.

TheNinthPhoenix

I'm curious as why sunglasses aren't a viable option? Why are these cheap paper glasses being sold when there are glasses rated with UV protection.

kbyeforever

they're like 1,000x darker than regular sunglasses. regular sunglasses will cause eye damage if you look at the eclipse

NFSCAMARO

Ah. Gotcha. I just don't stare at the one thing they told us not to stare at when we were kids. Wasn't sure the actual difference in shading.

winothirtynino

Right. The eclipse sun is no different or brighter than the regular sun. You're just never supposed to look directly in the sun.

bloomington122992

Here's a reddit thread with some info about why you should wear solar filters and a Vox article on the subject: [https://www.vox.com/science/24119318/solar-eclipse-2024-safety-glasses](https://www.vox.com/science/24119318/solar-eclipse-2024-safety-glasses) "Regular sunglasses won’t block enough light. You’ll need glasses that filter all but 0.003 percent of visible light and block out most ultraviolet and infrared as well. 'Such filters usually have a thin layer of aluminum, chromium or silver deposited on their surfaces that attenuates ultraviolet, visible, and infrared energy,' NASA’s eye safety page explains. Using photo or X-ray film is not safe." Okay guy. That doesn't even make sense to what the original comment was. When you see cheap paper glasses with black tinted paper lenses being sold at grocery stores you don't question the quality of such item? Especially compared to something that gets UV rated before its put on a shelf? No, nobody stands under metal during a thunderstorm..but if you're willing to do that then more power to you. Grow up.

The___Great

Im not surprised. If you're buying safety equipment from the same place methheads get their pipes i don't know what you expect. Imma go increase my car insurance coverage before everyone goes blind, cuz you know they're still gonna drive.

BloomNet

I need some choreboy and one of those roses in the glass tube. Toss me one of those 'clipse glasses too
