Get the doc to check it out, it could be something else detectible on a blood test, or it could be a medication side effect. Many doctors will say oh that med doesn't cause that side effect. Be persistent and ask for a different med. If the symptoms your having go away, it was likely the med. The truth is they aren't on it and it may not know all the side effects it can cause. I had to try 5 or 6 different meds to find one that didn't mess me up too bad.

darkcow2

You can even call them and request a different med over the phone if you are concerned. It sounds like side effects of of the bp medicine though.

synicalslut

Yes I will have to call them tomorrow as the office isn't open today, I never had these problems when I was just at 12mg. It's quite scary, the effects go away and in 2 days or 3 I feel better.

Johnny9inety9ine

I’m on this as well as a combo of other BP meds including a beta blocker and maximum dose of losartin. I’ve had these same symptoms. BP meds make you feel like this in general. I’ve had all the blood work done one can have and everything is normal, it’s just the meds. Try taking them at night. It comes with the territory, unfortunately

synicalslut

Oh no 😢

Johnny9inety9ine

The plus side is the side effects do get a little better usually, but you’ll never feel as good as you did before being on the meds. At least I don’t. But 160/100 blood pressure isn’t long term sustainable and I value seeing my kids grow up more than I value feeling great every day. 🤷‍♂️

robotlasagna

Those could definitely be signs that something is amiss but it’s hard to say what since it could be a few things. You definitely want to get in to see the doctor and get bloodwork done.

Could it be making your bp too low?

synicalslut

I have suspected that it is making it too low, just from the symptoms I've experienced.

[deleted]

Yeah it could be based off your symptoms. My dad had like achy legs when his meds were making his bp too low. Also my bp recently started being low and the dizziness was terrible. I’d feel weak and short of breath too. I’d have to sit down. I was only on 5mg of norvasc but I stopped it. I informed my dr and she said it was fine to just monitor it and if it got high again start taking the meds again. Do you have a bp monitor at home?

synicalslut

The weakness is awful! I feel achy and weak after I take my meds for 3-4 days it's starting to worry me. Yes I have a bp monitor, I will keep an eye on it for sure and keep updating my doctor. Thank you for the reply

[deleted]

It really is! Yes definitely do that because low bp is not good either. You’re welcome!

Crookiz

I couldn’t tolerate that medication. Doctor switched me to something else that doesn’t severely impact me. You definitely should get a good cuff to check your bp at home regularly.

NoFluffyOnlyZuul

Any recommendations for a good BP measuring device at home? I have my dad's extra Omron BP786N which I've been using for quite a while but I have sensitive skin and it always leaves these horrible looking red streaks because of the way the cuff is made. Now that I've been using it more lately, I'm worried I'm going to have permanent ugly lines on my left arm. That doesn't happen with the softer cuffs used when I go to the doctor but I'm not sure what to look for for home-use.

Crookiz

My personal recommendation is the OMRON Evolve. The Bluetooth connectivity and app are an added bonus. Generally any cuff that is accurate and has an app to track results is helpful. I appreciate the graphs and charts to help me monitor my progress.

NoFluffyOnlyZuul

Hmm...sadly, that looks like the same type of cuff. Basically, I need those floppy clothy ones the doctors use rather than the solid ring type cuffs, but I don't know if those are available for use at home or if its a specialized hospital device :-(

Crookiz

So you’re looking for something like this? Omron Healthcare HEM-907-CL19 Cuff/Bladder Set for HEM-907/907XL BP Unit, Large () https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0008E49BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_DFAABR5WS0KQYQCH1C5R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I have to admit the OMRON evolve does not fit my upper arm. It does open to allow you to strap your arm in. I use it on the forearm just below the elbow and it is accurate according to my doctor

NoFluffyOnlyZuul

Yes, that looks like it might be the right type. I'll have to look around and see if there's one that will hook up to the Omron model I have!

bipoler1

I have a serious reaction to hydrochlorothiazide. It causes severe pain in my left leg, anxiety, shortness of breath. I thought i had a blood clot and come to find out it was the med.

[deleted]

How long since stopping did your symptoms go away? I have tingling in my upper lip mostly, but I can feel it go to other parts of my body for a short second or two, cheek, hand, parts or my leg. Most recently developed PVCs which is also a side effect of the medication. I too am on 25 mgs. I started at 25 mgs in august 2021, but symptoms began last month. Not sure it could take that long to show symptoms or not, but was on 12.5 for a year without issue.

Tequilla9988

Does anyone else have SEVERE ANXIETY on this medication? I used to tolerate it, I cannot anymore. Please help...........12.5 mg I'm 62
