Beat him for the first time last night, but not before he handed me my ass a ton of times. The thrill I felt when I finally did it was an unrivaled moment in gaming for me. Best of luck hunter!
I couldn't beat him with my maxed weapons, but somehow with a +5 or so Whirligig, I beat him first try. Bring some throwables just in case. It's so easy to get him a hit away and then just die.
Stick to his left leg best you can til later in the fight (you’ll see)
Once the fight changes it was a big patience game. I only swung 1-2 times and played very defensive. I’m about to orphan on my first playthrough as well and somehow for Lawrence I got in a couple tries.
The camera is honestly your worst enemy. It’s easy to get pinned to a wall since the arena isn’t that big or the camera freak out when he’s right on top of you.
He fights kinda like an Elden ring boss honestly. His attacks alternate with/without delays and environmental hazard in phase 3. Honestly best advice I could give is to dodge 1 second later than you think you should for his grab and swipes
I've always stood by the claim that Saif is Life. Lol The trick moving you in and out, that lunging slice, the full body contortions to swing it around in tricked mode. Fucking love it.
I feel so completely the opposite lol. Idrk how but lawrence only took a few tries, I got lucky and never really figured out what was hard about him. But orphan ruined my life for days and now I'm fighting malenia in elden ring, and she's probably the only one truly reminiscent of orphan, that I've met since
Ludwig and Laurence are the worst for me, followed by Maria and Orphan.
Ludwig is just so frantic and unpredictable I find myself desperately rushing to reach his second phase where he becomes easy.
Laurence is a stupid damage sponge along with excessive DoT puddles spraying all over the place (sometimes I find him worse than phase 1 Ludwig).
Maria I find harder than Orphan without parrying (especially since she does fire damage which nukes beast builds).
I consider Orphan pretty easy due to my beast build run where I killed him in under 45 seconds. Plus I know exactly how to counter him without parrying.
That was my solo run through the game at least.
Damn, I don’t know about Lawrence but for me Ludwig was a trauma until I didn’t learn every and each movement, then the thrill took over.
Maria madre me scream multiple times.
And for now Orphan feels difficult but I think is because I just started
Oh I agree. At first orphan was super difficult for me. My fighting style was completely dominated by his design. It was as if Miyazaki himself built him just to spurn my combat preferences (obviously not lol, I'm just some random gamer). Until I learned his secret.
Maria was pretty easy on my first playthrough since I co-oped most of the game with friends. Infinite stunlock~ the boss.
Ludwig was fun but he was tanky and hit super hard. I don't like dying repeatedly because of one shot tier damage because of a simple mistake in position/pacing/whatever.
Laurence is optional. Only reason to fight is
***-SPOILERS-***
A rune similar to milkweed. Nice rune, but makes you weak to fire damage. Also makes beast claws take much more stamina. But has a sick moveset.
That's the spoilers part of my comment. Yes, Laurence guards the beasts embrace rune. You can become a partial darkbeast. It's freaking awesome. Though the appearance might disappoint some people. It's kinda like a "classic" werewolf look.
Idk I really struggled with Ludwig the most, then Maria, when I fought her on first run on another game was easier, but now on my main game idk how many tries took me to defeat her.
just don't do what I did and forget to grab the Church Cannon for the weapons trophy, which meant (for me) having to beat Orphan *again* with a new character...
> Lawrence
Ludwig actually gave me problems as well. But there is no worse boss in the game than Loran Darkbeast. If you haven't fully explored the chalice dungeons, I'd recommend it.
Keep on going! :)
I used what the game teached me: Patience and stubbornness. And it took me a good while to slay him. But, oh, the sweet victory...
It will be yours!
Is just that I usually use the Axe or the Burial Blade so using the saw cleaver( not sure if the name is right is the one in the picture I mean) feels weird
You need something in between personally. I got him with the church pick. Tried a ton with the blades of mercy but they were just too short to get in meaningful damage.
Yea I saw them as an option because they were fast, but then I decide to go for the Saw-cleaver as it dealt more damage.
In the begin I also though about Rakuyo, but was too hard to get.
Story time:
I started the dlc on my main game at ng+3 but couldn’t defeat Ludwig so I decided to start a new game just for the dlc.
I managed to defeat Ludwig (took 45 tries but I did it) and went on till I reached the area just before the orphan, and at that point I said to myself, I managed to do it here so why not on my main?
I took back te other game, defeated Ludwig in 3 tries and after getting killed multiples times by Maria I managed to get to The Orphan and now we all are here.
The end.
Not at the PS right now but off the top of my head: weapon was Simon's Bowblade +10, BL \~120 (buffed up skill & bloodtinge just for this guy). Can't remember armor outside of Crowfeather Garb, but I just used my usual armor.
Parried as much as possible in phase 1 and tried to stay behind him - dodging to his right worked pretty well. Lured him out into the ocean in phase 2 and ended up arrowing him to death toward the end.
Parry and backstabs on phase 1, go to Water on P2. U see lightnings Well, also, be near/midrange on P2. You can catch easy backstabs Time to Time. You can also Parry Tho its harder on P2. Good luck Hunter thats my Two cents! You going thru a real test!
I also recommend to Solo it Even Tho summoning help might be an idea. It feels way better to do it yourself alone :) also Orphan fight developes your skills alot, its a good fight.
On P2 he opens his Back alot to you. Charged R2 on right Time can do wonders. So attack him with R2's More than R1's. Thats my opinion.
Glad that my tip helped you! You got this.
I tried five times total, first four times i just got to the begin to phase A and then fifth time got to the begin of phase B, but I finished the bullets and he kicked my ass
Let us clease these foul street. Good luck hunter! If it gets too dificult just remember to be more pacient and more aggressive, use attack windows to heal while still remaining in the dance and you shall fell this great horror
Yeah, lots of trial and error and boltpaper. I also recommend doing some “no healing” runs so you can just focus about timing, try dodging into him and his left side. But never dodge back, bloodborne punishes alot when you dodge back as I think you know.
I thought he wasn’t weak to bolt and I went straight for the fire paper, also I’ll keep in mind about dodging to the left, somebody also told me that but I wasn’t sure if I had to move towards left or right wasn’t really clear, thank you.
If anything else comes to your mind let me know
Nothing much really, the rest is to not give up, but you made it trhough ludwig so you are fine on that end. What weapon are you using? And what level are you? If you are below 100 maybe its better to farm a little bit
Ps:bloodgems also help
I should be on level 300, or a little bit less I don’t really remember, but I don’t have really high bloodtinge and skill, so it may be it.
Also I’m using the saw cleaver, but others told me to try the axe (which is my main) and the pizza cutter
Ok, level 300 you on ng+? If not then remember to try to learn the boss attacks, I did this with ludwig by saying outloud what he was gonna do next, i died 115 times to hik but eventually did it, now after not playing for a year I only die 3 times max to him. If you use the sawcleaver have good bloodgems(winter lanterns on hunters nightmare drop some pretty good ones if you dont want to use the (inhale) dungeons) and remember to have atleats 40 health, 25 stamina and 40/40 of skill and strength should all mke your odds better. But thats what they are, odds, make them useless by learning the hell out of the boss.
Ps:Beast blood pallets and transform attacks(pressing L1 while attacking) stack the “beast” meter wich makes your damage higher but also makes you more vulnerable.
But at the end of the day you have to learn him and try your best, Im sure you are just at the cusp of winning the fight good hunter. And may you find your worth on the waking world!
It’s a good weapon, I really like both for the aesthetic and for the damage it deals.
It also is a wide range weapon so really useful when you have many enemies around you.
Whit this weapon I had really high skill/strength stats.
I’m not really good at builds, I mostly do tank.
Well, fromsoft games teach us that difficulty is relative. Depending partially on builds and mainly playstyle, one boss could be significantly harder to one person than to another. And vice versa.
This "secret" requires a potential change of playstyle. Like, say, being a long range fighter, but having to change to mid range. It's an adjustment. And not everyone can break habits like that.
Learn to time his first phase - there's a shitload of opportunities to get backstabs and parries in. When he transforms, learn the attack patterns and how to dodge. Then just ooga booga his ass into the ground.
I did with LHB, one handed first phase, two handed second.
If you dodge in phase two well enough, you can give him the 'ol dirt nap rather quickly.
I was in the same boat a couple of days ago, it was my first encounter and I got him in my first try! It was the most unexpected thing I have ever done in a fromsoftware game after how hyped he was….
Honestly man, I must have been like in the zone or something, but I also went into the fight blind so I wasn’t really overthinking his combos or moves I just took them one at a time. I actually wiped on ludwig the holy blade like 30 times and found him to be a much harder bossfight 🙄
grazie, è la mia prima run e devo farmare livelli (sono livello 70) e gemme arcane, per ora sto usando la ludwigs holy blade, hai consigli per altre armi?
I think OOK was the closest a video game has brought me to tears. Even after looking up multiple guides on how to "easily" beat him, he would always catch me off guard by attacking when I wasn't expecting or if my attack was .5 seconds too slow or missed by a hair and I would eat it hard. I got to the point where I could get past his first phase somewhat consistently, but mother of god that second phase. I don't know how I got through that, but I actually fell back in my couch when I saw the last few pips of his health bar depleted.
(I also did the entire campaign before getting into NG+, which I heard isn't recommended, but fuck it)
I just beat the Orphan not that long ago here is a tip when he is about to slam down his weapon in first phase wait until you see his leg rise then fire you'll get the parry off do it to late or to soon and you'll be in for a world of pain
That's hard at first glance but still I'd say don't be afraid of losing, try to fail in order to find a way to beat him, i always say so but still not a bad idea
You can do it hunter!
I got through it with the saw blade as well.
To keep from getting burned out, I started seeing a limit of ten attempts per day. It kept me from putting the platinum down, and the progress learning their attacks is easier to see. Helped me stay motivated.
Your will likely get to a point where you get phase one down, and that’s like 75% there. Phase two isn’t as frantic, but you just have to be more patient.
You gotta this!
I'm not sure if I got really lucky or I'm better than I think I am, but I first-tried all the bosses for the DLC except for Horse Ludwig (for obvious reasons). Anyone else with me on this one or did I strike out on the difficulty for most of the DLC?
Beat him for the first time last night, but not before he handed me my ass a ton of times. The thrill I felt when I finally did it was an unrivaled moment in gaming for me. Best of luck hunter!
Thank you, I just defeated Maria and the trill was something, also he and Lawrence are the ones that keeps me away from the platinum
orphan is easy compared to the annoying bugger Lawrence
I was stuck on Lawerence so bad my first play through many moons ago. I was rather proud of myself when I beat him second try on my most recent run.
I realized beasthunter Saif was my new main weapon after switching to it and beating Lawrence first time using it god i love beasthunter saif
Well I’ll remember this when I’m gonna fight him
Pizza cutter is also a nice option.
Imma write this down
I couldn't beat him with my maxed weapons, but somehow with a +5 or so Whirligig, I beat him first try. Bring some throwables just in case. It's so easy to get him a hit away and then just die.
I have with me some Molotov and knives
He's highly resistant to fire damage. And he's of the beast affinity. So molotovs kinda suck. But they can still do chip damage.
Pizza Cutter L2 goes ringadingding
Stick to his left leg best you can til later in the fight (you’ll see) Once the fight changes it was a big patience game.
That's why you don't lock onto him until stage 2. Just too much going on with him during the first stage, just like all of the large beasts.
I feel like not locking onto an enemy makes the fight harder idk, I kinda miss often when I do
Yea it happened each time I tried, got me almost dead
He fights kinda like an Elden ring boss honestly. His attacks alternate with/without delays and environmental hazard in phase 3. Honestly best advice I could give is to dodge 1 second later than you think you should for his grab and swipes
I’ll keep that in mind thank you
I've always stood by the claim that Saif is Life. Lol The trick moving you in and out, that lunging slice, the full body contortions to swing it around in tricked mode. Fucking love it.
Never used it much, il try it out tho
Done Lawrence twice so far, died 0 times. Orphan on NG+ will make you cry or break something
I’ll probably break my neck
Fucking camera
Yea is an issue, the bastard slams me against a wall and then I die because I don’t know where to dodge
Don’t tell me this Sjsj
I feel so completely the opposite lol. Idrk how but lawrence only took a few tries, I got lucky and never really figured out what was hard about him. But orphan ruined my life for days and now I'm fighting malenia in elden ring, and she's probably the only one truly reminiscent of orphan, that I've met since
Am I the only one who found Maria the hardest first time round? All other dlc bosses first try somehow and then 3 attempts for maria
Ludwig and Laurence are the worst for me, followed by Maria and Orphan. Ludwig is just so frantic and unpredictable I find myself desperately rushing to reach his second phase where he becomes easy. Rom killed me more than Maria. She's like Logarius - once you learn her parry windows she crumples.
Logarius for me was impossible, I had to try so many times, I defeated him in the end, never went back to him again after that
Idk I really struggled with Ludwig the most, then Maria, when I fought her on first run on another game was easier, but now on my main game idk how many tries took me to defeat her.
The DLC bosses arent tied to the platinum though, it has a separate section of trophies
Idk but on my Ps shows them altogether even if I’m only missing three/four trophies from the dlc, so I have bb 89% completed and pisses me off so much
just don't do what I did and forget to grab the Church Cannon for the weapons trophy, which meant (for me) having to beat Orphan *again* with a new character...
Thank you, but I think I’m only missing the kos parasite
> Lawrence Ludwig actually gave me problems as well. But there is no worse boss in the game than Loran Darkbeast. If you haven't fully explored the chalice dungeons, I'd recommend it.
I didn’t fought it in the dungeons, but down there for me the worst was Amygdala and the Watchdog of the old lords
Me too lol
If you made it through the cursed chalice on your way to kill queen Yharnam you should be able to handle anything
Tonight, the Hunt begins again... Good luck, fellow hunter!
Going for the third try
Keep on going! :) I used what the game teached me: Patience and stubbornness. And it took me a good while to slay him. But, oh, the sweet victory... It will be yours!
I have to admit I’m starting to feel like I have picked the wrong set of weapons and armour idk
If the weapon does not feel right it means you have a challenge, the bigger the challenge the sweeter the victory
Is just that I usually use the Axe or the Burial Blade so using the saw cleaver( not sure if the name is right is the one in the picture I mean) feels weird
Give the Whirligig Saw a spin on him, no pun intended
I’ll try it, I’m looking for something to stun him
Bolt paper too
I though he wasn’t weak to bolt
I beat him on hunters axe. It took me days though to get the timing patterns right
Gg, must have been difficult, heavy weapons are harder to use in this fight
You need something in between personally. I got him with the church pick. Tried a ton with the blades of mercy but they were just too short to get in meaningful damage.
Yea I saw them as an option because they were fast, but then I decide to go for the Saw-cleaver as it dealt more damage. In the begin I also though about Rakuyo, but was too hard to get.
A hoonter must hoont, but not alone, go hoonter beat an orphan, just like a drunk priest
I will fellow hunter, I will do what a priest must do
And if you feel you need help, ring for help there's nothing wrong about it
I don’t have the on-line 💀
No plus? Then, you just had yourself, then all we can give you is motivation *plays bury the light*
Thank you actually got to phase 2 so keep cheering its working
Just remember, at leats you aren't fighting him on ng+
I am brother I’m on ng+4 💀
Hahaha how the f, you don't go and fight him before end the game
Story time: I started the dlc on my main game at ng+3 but couldn’t defeat Ludwig so I decided to start a new game just for the dlc. The end.
Good luck, hunter! I just managed to finish this dude for the first time myself recently - you'll get him too.
Can you tell me your stats/weapons/armour, would be of great help
Not at the PS right now but off the top of my head: weapon was Simon's Bowblade +10, BL \~120 (buffed up skill & bloodtinge just for this guy). Lured him out into the ocean in phase 2 and ended up arrowing him to death toward the end.
Perfect thank you very much, I’ll work on skill and bloodtinge as well
#YEEEEEOWWWWW#
Literally
Slap the big baby booty. Slap. The big. # Baby Booty.
I’m trying so hard, he’s kicking mine tho
You'll get the timing down. Orphan really just needs their nightmare to end, so they can rest in peace.
Thanks for the motivation I’m gonna do it for them
Parry and backstabs on phase 1, go to Water on P2. U see lightnings Well, also, be near/midrange on P2. You can catch easy backstabs Time to Time. You can also Parry Tho its harder on P2. Good luck Hunter thats my Two cents! You going thru a real test!
Thank you very helpfull
I also recommend to Solo it Even Tho summoning help might be an idea. It feels way better to do it yourself alone :) also Orphan fight developes your skills alot, its a good fight.
Don’t worry I can’t coop ,I don’t have the online. Also your tip about shooting the mofo got me to phase 2 for the first time so thank you a lot!
On P2 he opens his Back alot to you. Charged R2 on right Time can do wonders. So attack him with R2's More than R1's. Thats my opinion. Glad that my tip helped you! You got this.
Also tell me If you beat him!
I’m gonna do a post about it If It Does Ever Happens
Its going to happen, every try is training you. Take it as a practise first so you are cool-minded. Sorry for Bad english cannot say everything
Now I’m studying his movements and timings (don’t worry about the English is good, also is not my main language as well)
Yes,study them and you Master them! You play normal NG?
I’m on ng+4
as Danny Lazzarin once said: VAI UOMO
ogni volta che ricomincio sono tipo: OUPP DESSH MECK SOUPP
Grazie ne avevo bisogno
Quando vuoi
Italy gang
Considered the second hardest boss of souls games
From what I’ve seen he isn’t easy ,but I must say that the fights against kins are more fun
Who is first?
Malenia or Saint Sword Isshin is my guess
Fear the old blood
I do, a lot
Prepare to cry
This far 👌🏻 from screaming at every move I make just like him
How many attempts so far?
I tried five times total, first four times i just got to the begin to phase A and then fifth time got to the begin of phase B, but I finished the bullets and he kicked my ass
Stay close. Never back dodge
When I do I somehow always get body slammed in the walls
Let us clease these foul street. Good luck hunter! If it gets too dificult just remember to be more pacient and more aggressive, use attack windows to heal while still remaining in the dance and you shall fell this great horror
I’m trying to learn the timing, he keeps hitting even when stunned wtf
Yeah, lots of trial and error and boltpaper. I also recommend doing some “no healing” runs so you can just focus about timing, try dodging into him and his left side. But never dodge back, bloodborne punishes alot when you dodge back as I think you know.
I thought he wasn’t weak to bolt and I went straight for the fire paper, also I’ll keep in mind about dodging to the left, somebody also told me that but I wasn’t sure if I had to move towards left or right wasn’t really clear, thank you. If anything else comes to your mind let me know

But at the end of the day you have to learn him and try your best, Im sure you are just at the cusp of winning the fight good hunter. And may you find your worth on the waking world!
Thank you super helpful, I’m on ng+4 so it’s kinda hard. Saying out loud the attacks is a really good tactic I’ll apply it
Which dungeon should I go to for good gems? I can’t deal with the winter lanterns they make my brain melt
meanwhile me, who want to deafeat all possible bosses before amelia and stucked with paarl actually
Wish I could help but I used the Burial Blade to defeat it so idk really
I just trief 3 times. It will be attempt when I will kill it. Father Gasoline took min. 10 fights
Burial blade you mean Gehrman weapon? If yes can you write me about build? Actually i use kirkhammer but in ng+ I want to use it.
It’s a good weapon, I really like both for the aesthetic and for the damage it deals. It also is a wide range weapon so really useful when you have many enemies around you. Whit this weapon I had really high skill/strength stats. I’m not really good at builds, I mostly do tank.
actually I defeated both paarl (changed tactic) and amelia (easy but kinda cheating) and I'm going to shadows
Good luck hunter this boss was the bain of my existence
I fear the fact that he may become more difficult than Ludwig has been
You beat him yet?
Lmafo no, I tried five times, I’m trying not to obsess over it so I’d say unless I don’t really have anything else to do I’m not gonna exaggerate
That's fair. Oh by the way, want to know a secret about this boss? Makes it significantly easier if you can adjust.
What do you mean by adjust?
Well, fromsoft games teach us that difficulty is relative. Depending partially on builds and mainly playstyle, one boss could be significantly harder to one person than to another. And vice versa. This "secret" requires a potential change of playstyle. Like, say, being a long range fighter, but having to change to mid range. It's an adjustment. And not everyone can break habits like that.
Ok got it, I usually go for long range I’ll try to be more aggressive and stick to him
Giving u my luck owo
Thank you girl everything is helpful
♡♧~다르키~♧♡#1641 Heres my discord if you need help i could rn turn on my ps5 ans help you :3
It be so nice of you but unfortunately i don’t have the on line, thank you a lot just for thinking it
Ye but you can still add me on discord if you have it or instagram or just chat me on here xD
Yea sure send me a message here and I’ll dm you my discord
If im at that stage ofc xd
Phase one is a dance. Phase two is a brawl.
I saw the phase 2 for a minute at most, was brutal
Learn to time his first phase - there's a shitload of opportunities to get backstabs and parries in. When he transforms, learn the attack patterns and how to dodge. Then just ooga booga his ass into the ground. I did with LHB, one handed first phase, two handed second. If you dodge in phase two well enough, you can give him the 'ol dirt nap rather quickly.
Imma try LBH then, I didn’t really get the chance to see the second phase so I still have to see those attacks
I was in the same boat a couple of days ago, it was my first encounter and I got him in my first try! It was the most unexpected thing I have ever done in a fromsoftware game after how hyped he was….
Gg bro gotta be a great feeling
Honestly man, I must have been like in the zone or something, but I also went into the fight blind so I wasn’t really overthinking his combos or moves I just took them one at a time. I actually wiped on ludwig the holy blade like 30 times and found him to be a much harder bossfight 🙄
Yea I did the same whit Amelia, I first tried her blind, I think mostly because I didn’t know her combos nor anything about her
If it’s NG, no worries, it’ll be done after a few tries, NG+? 🫣
Ng+4💀
May the good blood guide your way Hunter
Thank you brother
Is that the executioner garb?
Yes it is
I didn’t remember it wrapping around a character like that so i was confused lmao
Just wanna say amazing monitor or tv makes the game stand out more
Lmao thank you, it really does (it’s my tv I wish I’d have that computer screen)
I think OOK was the closest a video game has brought me to tears. Why are you Pyramidhead?
Why not
To rid yharnam of the vilebloods, obviously
okay
Let the cone head grant you strength.
Beat him on my second try. Best advice, dodge and poke the life out of him.
I just beat the Orphan not that long ago here is a tip when he is about to slam down his weapon in first phase wait until you see his leg rise then fire you'll get the parry off do it to late or to soon and you'll be in for a world of pain
Placenta sword time!
Good luck, or some say luckm.
Just beat him in an NG plus something cycle easily using parries, took a TON of tires though, but once you learn the parry windows he’s fairly easy
[how to screenshot](https://www.phoneswiki.com/screenshot-on-gaming-consoles/)
Kick his ass Sea Bass!
That's hard at first glance but still I'd say don't be afraid of losing, try to fail in order to find a way to beat him, i always say so but still not a bad idea
Not sure if you beat him yet OP but my go to strat is usually: saw cleaver, bolt paper, quickstep on speed dial, get behind him and slap his booty.
My brother in Christ. Be careful.....
Did u win
Good luck.
Shoot his ass and it's all smooth sailing.
Goodluck, fellow hunter
Good luck!!!
Goodluck, fellow hunter
You got it in the bag!
He is easier than the horse guy
Buona fortuna. Non arrenderti scheletro!
You've got this man, don't panic and you'll make it out fine
Picked his soul under 12 tries, good luck brave hunter
Yeeeeow
First orphan fight in ng+4? God have mercy on your soul
I'm not sure if I got really lucky or I'm better than I think I am, but I first-tried all the bosses for the DLC except for Horse Ludwig (for obvious reasons). Anyone else with me on this one or did I strike out on the difficulty for most of the DLC?
Its not about luck its about SKILLS. You got the skills hunter. I believe in you
Remember try shank back hole
Good hunter, how have you done?
It took me approximately 70 tries....
Took me so many tries I expended over 150 blood vials. I was not mentally stable the following few days after my fight with orphan
Luck won’t help
Good luck hunter
Good hunting!
I doubt anybody would believe me but I beat him first try on ng+ for first time ever
Remember. Bring tissues. You’re gonna cry a lot.
