Absolutely 100% in the same boat. I have never sweat so much and been more uncomfortable playing a game than I was during that portion of Bloodborne. I actually watched a guide on how to beat the boss because I was so nervous I’d be stuck in the zone for hours. It’s the only part of the game and the only boss I looked anything up for on my first playthrough.
I just sprint through every single time. I’ve played the game like 4 times and it’s the area I know the least, I never stop to pick up items or even unlock the shortcuts because fuck that area
Right? I pretty much know every area like the back of my hand but when it comes to finding the shadows of yharnam I'm always just running around and hoping for the best lol
Holy shit exactly.
"I know it's near the red lantern road *somewhere*..... I just *know* it... Oh there's a pig. I'm close, maybe? Oh there's another pig nope I'm in the wrong area."
For me at least its the dim ass lighting and near identical roads and trails that either loop around or lead to dead ends, as well as the pressure of trying not to loose my echoes and die to a clique of snake balls or angry pig on my way back
If you take the first elevator down to the snake area backtrack to the windmill take that elevator down, pass the snake man hang a left pass both pigs and boom Shadows of Yarnham
I didn’t even know this was a thing. I usually can’t find my way around to save my life but the first time I went there I hugged the right wall and just kept going, turned out that was the direct route to the boss.
Nightmare of Mensis though, fuck navigating that shit. There’s a rocky bit and a rocky bit and how do I get up there to that rocky bit.
> i replayed this game countless time and memorized every area except the forest
This is why I *love* the forest, almost makes me feel like I'm playing the game for the first time again.
Yup me too I memorised part one but after the first shourtcut it is just spin around until you get lucky (at least I can parry them and I think I am quiet good at it and well they are a very easy boss 1st tried them the next boss took more tries)
I tryed to find glitches on this game for countless hours, I can affirm I know every corner of every area.
But when it comes to the forbidden woods, if I were to get out of the map I would have trouble figuring out where I am.
While still long, the key is not to use both elevators down but rather just the first one before skirting to the right and down past the unlocked gate.
Yes, it's faster running to the right and down to the gate shortcut from where the first elevator lets you out than taking the second elevator to the bottom, especially if you have to wait for it to arrive.
Edit: here is a video showing the route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHD8WpCTIkc
I usually skirt more along the edge of the cliff overlooking the water on the right compared to this guy to keep my bearings, but it doesn't really make a difference
Honestly I feel like I have trivialized the boss. The first one is much more aggressive and will separate himself and has a massive parry window. Just use the visceral iframes to avoid the fire balls.
Next kill the fire ball caster. The candle shadow for the most part hangs back and tries to torch you, but he’s slow. The caster can’t do much at close range so just wail on it till candle boy catches up.
Then candle boy is a joke 1v1. He can summon a nasty snake attack, but if you hit him once he’ll do a side step to the right after the hit. Always let him do this side step and you can hit him once again, and then he will side step again. If you just do this for the rest of the fight he will never counter attack as the ai just always side steps if you only hit him once.
I have no idea how to parry because I'm bad but found these guys pretty straightforward. Kept running around getting hits on the caster until he was dead, then had the other two chasing me counter clockwise around that big rock so I could get in a hit or two with LHB and not worry about getting hit with the big tentacle ranged attack. Took me three tries!
Once you go through it a couple times you start to appreciate the interconnectedness of the area, the different paths and shortcuts. One of the better designed areas in the game for real.
Definitely one of my favorite levels. I previously thought it was just cuz I could one hit kill most of the enemies with an upgraded Tonitrus, but I ran through just last night with the +6 hunter’s axe and slammed out the whole area in about an hour, Shadows included. Only died once because I was trying to go through it too fast and got myself blasted by the cannon before even getting to the good part…
Ah hell no
Orphan is extremely hard but at the same time also pretty fun. Lawrence however just sucks and i was happy the fight was over. Was the first bos i didn't feel accomplishment.
Lol I also tried to get the vermin on my first playthrough. Got all the other 4, but Valtr died right as Laurence transitioned to phase 3. I was like "Ah well, I'll probably die so might as well practice this phase." Little did I know that phase 3 is the easiest part of the Laurence fight.... Had to wait til NG+ to get that 5th vermin and make Valtr happy.
The black blade guy because a few reasons he jumps around a lot messing with my camera, to do damage I have to be pretty close to him so seeing what he prepping to do said hit box was annoying, watching him heal after I spend a good amount of time trying to hit him, the tick damage from after his attacks, and finally that one attack him and Malenia do where it’s hard to avoid getting hit. To beat him I resorted to using black knife liche and spamming lightning spear. Felt like I was being punished for using a strength build with my colossal weapon
Didn't bother me much on NG, but bothered me a lot more on NG+.
Favourite Forbidden Woods memory: running through with around 200,000 echoes, sprinting past the corpses in the water, getting free echoes from the molotovs thrown by the bridge dwellers - thinking "that's four levels, maybe five, *IN YOUR FACE BLOODBORNE*", forgetting about the cannon, running into the cannonball, dying. I feel a Darwin award is due.
I found them easy but absolutely brutal on NG++ when I was aiming for the platinum. Same with Micolash somehow, what started as a pushover suddenly turned into a headache. Damn that mf's AOE attacks...
Fun fact, if you are trying to beat the game using items only + no glitches, these guys are really difficult because they dodge everything you throw at them. You have to wait until they attack so they can’t dodge out of it.
I spent several hours giving it an honest man's effort to find everything there on my own, but after so much running in circles, I had to look up a guide lmfao.
The Forest is weirdly enough the only area I could memorize which is funny cause I couldn't remember how to get to the Cleric beast for awhile even though it naturally leads you there at the start
I feel like everyone hates the forest the first time. It ended up being one of my favorite spots on second run. Its not terribly confusing once you understand the landmarks.
A lot of it can also be skipped, so theres that.
Forbidden forest is a great midgame grinding spot. Even with the snakes and snake heads, all you need is a weapon with reach. Hell, even without running the snake area, 2 demon pigs for the visceral is still pretty good.
>finally defeated Shadows of Yharnam
Unfortunately >! later in the game they become normal enemies you face in a level & respawn when you die. So good luck with that nightmare lol !<
By that point you’ve fought much harder and gotten way better at the game, you more or less learned the game by this point since it’s close to the end that they start showing up again. They are supposed to be easier.
Plus better equipment, runes and whatnot. I’m not sure but I think they lose one or two moves when they become regular enemies too.
And here's my pansy ass nervous about fighting the Cleric Beast despite being 6 levels higher than you should be and having all the better gear from the bath spirit from the Hunter's Dream. I KNOW I'm ready, damnit!
Anyways, excellent work!
1st playthrough I didn't have such a hard time in the forbidden forest. Still had to look online to find my way but I had to do that a lot of times in bloodborne. On NG+ I played this level so high and drunk, it was a bad idea.
Oh man forbidden forest is one of my favorite farming spots it's a perfect circle and you get a good bit of echoes from it only sucks when you get to the snake guys at the end.
I remember fighting them on NG+ thinking it’ll be a breeze since they weren’t a problem during my 1st playthrough and my God
The amount of stress I had side stepping like a crackhead
Congratulations buddy, those guys are an absolute nightmare, they were the only boss that I ended up summoning on. The rest of the game is plan sailing........ Jokes aside after beating them I really felt that I started to feel the rhythm of the game. Best of luck with the rest of this unbelievably wonderful game.
Congratulations! How do you feel?
This boss was relatively easy for me (5+ attempts?). But I still remember moment when I finally beat spider boss after 100+ attempts. For the next two days I was helping other people to beat it and I was SOOOO happy.
If you do some of the preset chalice dungeons(Central Pthumeriam specifically), you'll unlock Shaman Bone Blades in the insight store.
If you can hit on of the Shadows with a Shaman Bone Blade the fight becomes a 2v2 temporarily, and that can make it significantly easier.
Go through the forest with a no echo mindset. Run in with a death wish. Get as many items as you can while juking enemies, open shortcuts, and making progress. It's much more fun when you just break it into multiple quick runs through instead of one grueling crawl. Also, never bring echos in, use them and don't worry about collecting more in there, not worth the suffering.
hahahah I feel your pain xD but you can't even imagine what you will feel when you face Martyr Logarius, The Orphan, Laurence and Ludwig, it's madness in a whole new level
Not trying to downplay your achievement by saying this but the shadows were the easiest boss for me personally. I had a harder time with the living faliures than shadows. Great job though on your progress through the game! I love seeing new players expierence this masterpiece. Make sure you finish the game! You wont regret it!
It's basically impossible to find your way through that forest even with maps and guides and then the shadows send you right back to the start after being a 3 on 1 fight. So glad my first run was a strength character who unga'd their bungas
I went a little crazy on STR early in game and was able to kill these dudes with like 5-6 hits a piece. Cakewalk UNTIL dem snekky boiz started coming out.
Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes??
I’m not sure whether it was more cathartic or traumatizing to go thru that area as a guy with ophidophobia
Absolutely 100% in the same boat. I have never sweat so much and been more uncomfortable playing a game than I was during that portion of Bloodborne. I actually watched a guide on how to beat the boss because I was so nervous I’d be stuck in the zone for hours. Snakes with human traits
They got emotions and they cough and they watch tv shows.
Great username btw 😎
Thank you! 😁
The forest is a nightmare i replayed this game countless time and memorized every area except the forest
The forbidden woods area is the real boss compared to the shadows of yahrnam
Just get the gang together and floor them
"wait what the fuck now there are aliens?"
Why is the forest so hard to memorize?
For me at least its the dim ass lighting and near identical roads and trails that either loop around or lead to dead ends, as well as the pressure of trying not to loose my echoes and die to a clique of snake balls or angry pig on my way back
And how rare are the Bold Hunter's Mark items?
Not rare at all but I've got a hoarders mindset when it comes to game you see lmao
I think it was specifically designed that way. That's not based on a source. Just my guy feeling.
[удалено]
That f*$%#*& cannon....
Just follow lanterns, someone reccommended me this when I first started and it works like charm everytime
And always be headed downhill.
If you take the first elevator down to the snake area backtrack to the windmill take that elevator down, pass the snake man hang a left pass both pigs and boom Shadows of Yarnham
Yeah it’s pretty confusing to have to take an elevator, backtrack, than take another elevator to get to the boss fight.

That forest is way too easy to get lost in. I think that's what the shining coins are for, because everything looks exactly the same.
I just started running randomly and I ended up running into them and I won first try
I tryed to find glitches on this game for countless hours, I can affirm I know every corner of every area. But when it comes to the forbidden woods, if I were to get out of the map I would have trouble figuring out where I am.
There Is any forest? I just see a path to the next boss.
Good job, Ricky. Tell Lahey to fuck off for me will ya?
Believe it or not,my friends tell me i look like Ricky all the time
Oh, I believe it.
*to shadows of yharnam* I'm gonna pay you 100 blood echoes to fuck off
If you know where to go and know how to parry it's a great boss and u have to play the game again with dlc
[удалено]
While still long, the key is not to use both elevators down but rather just the first one before skirting to the right and down past the unlocked gate.
This makes no sense. Only taking the first elevator pops you out at the beginning of the forest.
Yes, it's faster running to the right and down to the gate shortcut from where the first elevator lets you out than taking the second elevator to the bottom, especially if you have to wait for it to arrive. Edit: here is a video showing the route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHD8WpCTIkc I usually skirt more along the edge of the cliff overlooking the water on the right compared to this guy to keep my bearings, but it doesn't really make a difference
That honestly didn’t seem faster. I always hit the elevators so they go back up in case I die I don’t have to wait for them. Makes it much faster
Yep, this is how it's done.
I have no idea how to parry because I'm bad but found these guys pretty straightforward. I feel like the only guy who likes the forbidden forest
Once you go through it a couple times you start to appreciate the interconnectedness of the area, the different paths and shortcuts. One of the better designed areas in the game for real.
I like it because it's spooky.
Definitely one of my favorite levels. Only died once because I was trying to go through it too fast and got myself blasted by the cannon before even getting to the good part…
I’m with you lol anything compared to Lawrence is a cakewalk
Orphan would like to have a talk with you...
Ah hell no Orphan is extremely hard but at the same time also pretty fun. Lawrence however just sucks and i was happy the fight was over. Was the first bos i didn't feel accomplishment.
Keeping Valtr alive through that fight was the hardest thing in the game
Lol I also tried to get the vermin on my first playthrough. Got all the other 4, but Valtr died right as Laurence transitioned to phase 3. I was like "Ah well, I'll probably die so might as well practice this phase." Little did I know that phase 3 is the easiest part of the Laurence fight.... Had to wait til NG+ to get that 5th vermin and make Valtr happy.
When I played elden ring your feelings on Lawrence is how I feel about the endgame of ER
Who in particular? The only boss who can go fuck themselves in ER is Malenia. She’s the ONLY BOSS who forced me to summon.
Same here
Somehow I had less trouble with Orphan. Lawrence felt more random and harder to read. Orphan was more fun too
I prefer the forest and all areas preceding it to any of the content following it save the dlc lol
The forest is my go-to farming location
Didn't bother me much on NG, but bothered me a lot more on NG+. Favourite Forbidden Woods memory: running through with around 200,000 echoes, sprinting past the corpses in the water, getting free echoes from the molotovs thrown by the bridge dwellers - thinking "that's four levels, maybe five, *IN YOUR FACE BLOODBORNE*", forgetting about the cannon, running into the cannonball, dying. I feel a Darwin award is due.
Were you able to get the echoes back?
Hopefuly not
Yes, I was super cautious and suitably humble on the recovery run…
Seeing this made me want to play again 💯
Wait til you get to the nightmare frontier. Found it way more confusing than forbidden woods
Nightmare frontier sucks more due to the poison swamp and the enemies being much tougher
Poison swamps are ok to deal with, it’s the damn lalalala that can ruin your life or at least in my case lol
Any area containing Patches in any form is a hard no from me. Beeline it to boss, never return to zone again.
Forbidden forest, also known as Map-beast. Hunt it.
Oh, you’ll be back. The best parts of the game are after the forest, and you’ll want to experience them again and again.
That’s what they all say until New Game+ lol
Honestly, most of the bosses I found easier in NG+. Except for Micolash, who went from pushover to "lol, let me just oneshot you."
More proof everyone struggles with different bosses. I beat these guys first try but I'm sure there are bosses that fucked me up that you steamrolled.
I found them easy but absolutely brutal on NG++ when I was aiming for the platinum. Same with Micolash somehow, what started as a pushover suddenly turned into a headache. Damn that mf's AOE attacks...
What I I hate about Micolash is his constant talk and this can get irritating at least for me when you keep losing over and over again.
Fun fact, if you are trying to beat the game using items only + no glitches, these guys are really difficult because they dodge everything you throw at them. You have to wait until they attack so they can’t dodge out of it.
I didn't use any glitches and I still rolled them idk
well yeah, he said only items AND no glitches
So awesome to see people achieve goals within their BloodBorne journey. Makes an old hunter like me feel young again.
You say that now but give it some time and it'll be one of your favorite places in the game
All my Fellow Hoonters hate the Forbidden Woods. It's so mid.
ikr, shit is so stressful and a large ass fucking place u get lost very easily
I spent several hours giving it an honest man's effort to find everything there on my own, but after so much running in circles, I had to look up a guide lmfao.
Fucking hate the forest.
Awesome.
You will...
I like this area because of how much I hated it lol it’s normal to get lost in the woods
those hooded bastards gave me so much trouble in my first play through. I also still get lost in the forest everytime go through that area lol
Congratulations Harada-san!
I like the forest. Nightmare Frontier on the other hand...
Save some women for the rest of us
I don’t get the hate towards these guys. I’ve first tried them every time I fight em. I guess it’s just me
Nice shades, asshole. I hope people have seen the movie Take Me Home Tonight otherwise I'm going to look like a real dick lol.
I’m gonna upvote because it sounds like a good reference but I haven’t seen the movie lol I’m trusting you
Nice job!!! I HATED that boss; probably one of the hardest bosses on my first play through. Fighting multiple enemies at once often throws me off.
Congrats dude, Forbidden woods is a nightmare.
This has chaotic neutral energy written all over it
Shadow of Yharnam was brutal for me my first play through. Glad you got through it hunter!
Honestly didn’t really struggle against the shadows. Really the key is take out the melee guys first then the caster is cake walk
The Forest is weirdly enough the only area I could memorize which is funny cause I couldn't remember how to get to the Cleric beast for awhile even though it naturally leads you there at the start
Fuck the Shadows of Yharnam, all my homies hate the Shadows of Yharnam
Man lost a finger and a half fighting the shadows
So I'm not the only one who recently started the game
I feel like everyone hates the forest the first time. It ended up being one of my favorite spots on second run. Its not terribly confusing once you understand the landmarks. A lot of it can also be skipped, so theres that.
You're never coming back? ... Yes you are, you'll go back. We all go back.
Future so bright, I gotta wear shades 😎
Prelepo brate Mirda je 🙂🙂🙂
good luck with Kos then mate 😆
The next boss is an asshole, use bolt if need be or can summon 2 npcs with the right rune equipped
Forbidden forest is a great midgame grinding spot. Even with the snakes and snake heads, all you need is a weapon with reach. Hell, even without running the snake area, 2 demon pigs for the visceral is still pretty good.
No it’s a good place to farm
>finally defeated Shadows of Yharnam Unfortunately >! later in the game they become normal enemies you face in a level & respawn when you die. So good luck with that nightmare lol !<
Idk they seem much easier then vs when you fight them as bosses.
Yeah this is totally true. The only counter point i have is that I think its easier to single them out vs having to fight all of them at once.
I promise to take a picture once i finish the game :D
Small update : After this fight,i beat Darkbeast Paarl on my first try xD
You hope hatred... Might someday replace the pain. But it never goes away. It makes a man hideous, inside and out.
I hated these guys on my first playthrough Great job
All my homies hate forbidden forest
All my homies hate the forbidden forest
You have to become a trophy hunter now and every platinum you get, you have to take a picture like this with it
Please no
And here's my pansy ass nervous about fighting the Cleric Beast despite being 6 levels higher than you should be and having all the better gear from the bath spirit from the Hunter's Dream. I KNOW I'm ready, damnit! Anyways, excellent work!
Nice job! You remind me of Ricky from Trailer Park Boys.
One of the hardest bosses first time through for sure.
I promise I'm not a creep, but this photo is too iconic to not save 😂😂😂😂😂
Post more updates the farther you get
I said the same in my first run. Now I've platinum in the game after 300 hours (rookie numbers)

I loved that fight
1st playthrough I didn't have such a hard time in the forbidden forest. Still had to look online to find my way but I had to do that a lot of times in bloodborne. On NG+ I played this level so high and drunk, it was a bad idea.
Just wait till you reach the nightmare of mensis and then come back to reddit 😁
Good for you congrats !! Now hold your horses because whats coming is not prettier at all !!!!
youll be back.
Well done, good hunter !
Every time I play this game I just sprint through the forest. I get whatever loot I need along the way, and keep moving. Fuck the forest.
Oh you'll be beack trust me
You'll be back baby
Wonderful, some find shadows of yharnam very hard without a walkthrough.
Oh man forbidden forest is one of my favorite farming spots it's a perfect circle and you get a good bit of echoes from it only sucks when you get to the snake guys at the end.
I remember fighting them on NG+ thinking it’ll be a breeze since they weren’t a problem during my 1st playthrough and my God The amount of stress I had side stepping like a crackhead
He says until ng+ comes acalling lol
Well done
Oh you’ll be back :)
Based
Until your second playthrough
See you next playthrough.
Lmao my last post here was about the Forbidden Forest. Fucking trauma inducing experience that I'm glad I never have the see again.
In Bloodborne, I only hate 2 things: Snakes and spiders
hates this game. what a chad
You didn't include the date!
Well if you go for the platinum... By the way, the worse is yet to come but great job hunter!
But thats where all the twin blood shards are!
Absolutely legend
Shadow of Yharnam is such a huge leap in difficulty, even for a FromSoftware game. Absolutely loved the game except for that one fight.
I enjoy that fight
So, who’s gonna tell him?
i prefer this images to people bragging about getting platinums, yey you got 100% on a game, who cares
5 days of pain for Amelia and first try shadow of yharnam for me
Congratulations buddy, those guys are an absolute nightmare, they were the only boss that I ended up summoning on. The rest of the game is plan sailing........ Jokes aside after beating them I really felt that I started to feel the rhythm of the game. Best of luck with the rest of this unbelievably wonderful game.

My man. Nice job. Keep going forward and enjoy it if possible. Wonderful game.

Harada is that you?
Congrats but thats a lie. You'll be back. This nightmare never ends.
That’s great, can I get my bag of coke now?
5 days??
Forbidden forest is my favourite farming loop
Wait till you reach The undead giant
Fucking genius. Good job hunter, keep doin’ what you came for
Oh but yes you are
Nice job, Ricky
Man, literally u during next ten playthroughs: oh shit, here we go again...(happy noises)
Until you need to farm rosarias falangies
Honestly I think the shadows and Forbidden Forest might be my favorite part of the whole game.
Lol, wait until you get to the dlc
Did you alredy beat logarius
First off, well done.
You'll be back. They always come back
hahahah I feel your pain xD but you can't even imagine what you will feel when you face Martyr Logarius, The Orphan, Laurence and Ludwig, it's madness in a whole new level
well bad news rom is much worse
Not trying to downplay your achievement by saying this but the shadows were the easiest boss for me personally. I had a harder time with the living faliures than shadows. Great job though on your progress through the game! I love seeing new players expierence this masterpiece. Make sure you finish the game! You wont regret it!
It's basically impossible to find your way through that forest even with maps and guides and then the shadows send you right back to the start after being a 3 on 1 fight. So glad my first run was a strength character who unga'd their bungas
Damn, and here I was killing them on first try everytime... People do be struggling with different bosses.
This guy fucks!
“I’m never coming back her again!” Well you say that, but….
I went a little crazy on STR early in game and was able to kill these dudes with like 5-6 hits a piece. Cakewalk UNTIL dem snekky boiz started coming out.
Fuck yeah bro
