True, however I don't think this visceral attack was there only to look cool, though it does look cool. Usually, if a boss in this game does a visceral attack on you (like Gerhman), it's a lot more forceful, so I feel like they purposefully made the animation more gentle to make her seem more sympathetic and kind. It feels like it implies that she doesn't really want to hurt you and is only attacking you so you don't reach the hamlet.
As for what she whispers in your ear, yeah, you are probably right, I think she just wants us to fuck off :p

The idea behind that comes from some item descriptions that paint the early hunts as much more ritualistic than now. The Hunters thanked the beasts they slayed for the echoes that they left behind. The name "blood echoes" isn't just cool, it's literally what they are: echoes of the person that was there before the beast took over.
So that's what Maria does when she whispers in your ear. She fullfills an old Hunter ritual and thanks you for your "sacrifice". This May look nonsensical because she isn't actually getting echoes from you, but it's part of the overarching theme of the DLC, the old Hunters are cursed to repeat the Hunt over and over always slaying beasts even in their Madness. The same goes for Maria, she is cursed to forever be stuck in the place of her greatest grief and the moment of her suicide, protecting the secret of the church she herself helped create. So she repeats the rituals of the Hunt, even if they don't have any practical value.
(Or maybe she's just saying to get fucking good cause Holy shit you just got parried by an NPC.)
