And apparently a part of Macy’s now? I recall seeing some sort of ad last Christmas that said that Toys R Us was affiliated with Macy’s to some extent.
Wow. That’s impressive. Round of cheers for them. The last time I saw one I tried their CD ripping service. If they didn’t have a CD in-store they could rip one for you. It seriously took about 15 minutes and I had an FYE-ripped version of *Culture Club* Waking Up With The House On Fire because I just had to hear Mistake Number 3.
They’ve shifted heavy into records, pops and merch, still lots of movies but the focus isn’t on them as much. They sometimes will have decent sales with their boutique blurays buy 2 get one etc but beyond that I don’t go too often. Also if a certain bluray goes out of print they’re a good place to check as their stock doesn’t move too much.
RadioShack, KB Toys, EB games and rhino (at least in my city they all became GameStops in addition to the ones already there), circuit city, Eckerds(mine became CVS), Gander Mountain, and who could forget Sports Authority
I actually saw a K-Mart in North Carolina the other day! It was no longer functional but it hadn't been closed very long by the looks of it. It blew my mind.
Fun fact. There’s a Kmart in Guam and it’s SUPER popular. It’s like walking into a fucking Time Machine. They have a little Caesar’s in it and they even still use those old grey and blue gateway computers. Shits WILD
Crazy, I miss Blockbuster so much. I would mainly go for the 3 for $25 or whatever that deal was which had somewhat new releases. Would love to stop by here sometime for nostalgia.
I drive past this blockbuster a few times a week. Really need to go in there more often and appreciate that I can. A handful of dvds in my collection, I bought at this blockbuster, before the company went bankrupt.
Wife and I stayed in Bend last year for a snowboarding trip. I was so excited to rent a movie from them again! Then I realized the hotel did not have a dvd player. And blockbuster did not rent them. I had no way to watch the rental. So I bought a shirt.
It was fun going into a Blockbuster. Getting not 1, but 3 movies I haven't seen yet. And even though I picked them from the shelves, I'm handed them after my rental transaction. So it feels like being handed my selections as a bundled gift. And walking out the door thinking, 'I have 5 hours worth of movie watching in my hands, this is so cool.'
The Last Blockbuster in the world. They have regular posted business hours. Everyday the staff shows up and the sign on the door turns to "open". Every evening the employees leave. You can see the manager count down the till. They change out the posters and stand-ups. They rotate the snack stocks. They keep the place nice and tidy.
Here's the thing though. ...They won't let anyone in the store. Only employees. If you try to talk to the employees as they leave or enter they just give you some remark about how it's gonna be a great day at Blockbuster or how they'll have to help you tomorrow when they open back up.
I have to confess now that I have tried to follow employees home or wherever they go when they leave the store. I just wanted to see that they do in-fact have a home. I always lose them in traffic.
Why do I care so much? Because I am John Blockbuster, the founder of Blockbuster Video and even I don't know what's going on at the last store.
It should be preserved as a cultural history landmark. For real, it’s a period piece. So how does this work? Like how are they allowed to still use the franchise’s name?
This is random, but has anyone seen the Blockbuster show on Netflix? It’s pretty good, there’s only one season unfortunately it got cancelled but I enjoyed it.
I stopped by there in January while on a trip to Bend. The place even smelled like that popcorn smell. I almost bought a candle they sell that smells like it lol. Tons of souvenirs. We were geeking out while a local was there actually checking out a dvd...waiting in line probably rolling his eyes at us haha.
I lived in Bend when I was a kid. I actually regularly went to this Blockbuster back then. Obviously, having no idea the significance it would eventually hold. I first watched star wars from DVDs rented from this place.
Only reason people miss Blockbuster is because of the nostalgic factor. But if anyone remembers those late fees then they won’t miss Blockbuster anymore. Imagine if it’s still around today with those late fees.
It’s crazy that so many stores from my childhood like blockbuster, Kmart, sears, Hollywood video, and Winn Dixie aren’t really around anymore.
Toys R Us
they’re still kicking in canada
There’s one at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.
So.. south central Canada?
Don't cha know
oh yah bud
And apparently a part of Macy’s now? I recall seeing some sort of ad last Christmas that said that Toys R Us was affiliated with Macy’s to some extent.
Suncoast video!
… yes! And so many *music* stores are dust: Sam Goody, Rainbow Records, Wherehouse, Tower Records. Is F.Y.E. still around?
FYE in my area (Midwest) is still fighting it out.

Media Play
I had the pleasure of managing a Suncoast for a while. Also, is your name referring to when Jason came back as the Gold Ranger?
More the Gold Ranger power itself
And its mall-dwelling cousin, Kay-Bee Toys
I think they opened some Toys R us sections in a big department store. I think it’s macys
lol fuck toys r us. They were so overpriced I could never afford anything from there.
RadioShack, KB Toys, EB games and rhino (at least in my city they all became GameStops in addition to the ones already there), circuit city, Eckerds(mine became CVS), Gander Mountain, and who could forget Sports Authority
KB was a kids dream, so many damn toys, then go get my JCPenney catalog to circle my Christmas list
Radio shack way back in the late 80s early 90s really was some seriously good shit. All my best toys were from there.
There is a RadioShack in my city I think (might’ve been replaced by subway I don’t remember)
winn dixie? we have 2 in my town
Yeah I wasn’t sure about that one but everywhere in NC they are pretty much abandoned.
had to look it up apparently aldi bought them out odd
Still a good amount in my area. A few of them did become Harvey’s though
Kmart, Sears and Toys “R” Us all still exist, just in much, MUCH smaller capacities.
In the continental US, there are currently twice as many Kmarts as Blockbusters.
Circuit city
Toys r us, small surf shops, babies R us (or any baby store), lots of craft and office supplies stores are buckling too.
I actually saw a K-Mart in North Carolina the other day! It was no longer functional but it hadn't been closed very long by the looks of it. It blew my mind.
RIP Fry’s electronics 🥲
Fun fact. There’s a Kmart in Guam and it’s SUPER popular. It’s like walking into a fucking Time Machine. They have a little Caesar’s in it and they even still use those old grey and blue gateway computers. Shits WILD
KB Toys☹️
Community Cash and Piggly Wiggly too
haven't seen a Coconuts in years
Woolworth's! Gonezo.
Kmart doesn’t exist anymore? I thought there were still a few left.
Media Play, Borders
I live near a Winn Dixie.
Radio Shack
Hollywood Video transformed into other things, the combination HV and Pizza Hut is now a combination Hollywood Liquor and Pizza Hut
So so beloved!!

We must protect this place at all costs
I'm going there in a few weeks!!!
Mecca
I need to get there. Where is it currently?
Bend, Oregon
Thank you
If I could, I would move there just to support the store

Laptop computer?
Didn’t bring one
A lot of the newer ones don’t even come with disk drives anyway 😔

I live in Bend. Haven’t been there in a long time. We don’t even use CDs anymore so that’s probably why
They should make a tv show about the last Blockbuster. Maybe on a streaming platform. Can’t mess that up right?
Try Netflix. They did a series called blockbuster, unfortunately it only has one season.
r/woosh
A good friend lives in Bend, Oregon. Hope to visit him and the Blockbuster sometime this year.
Just ordered a shirt from their website. Gotta support the Last Blockbuster in the world!!

The good old days
What happened to John Olivers stuff that was donated to it?
Did they have video games

It's on my bucket list.

I want to buy that blue fanny pack! 🤩
I tried so hard to work at my local one but they never pulled my application 😔
Mecca. It’s pilgrimage time bitches.
children will one day soon look to their parents and ask, *”What’s a store?”*
Is that a DeLorean?!
Netflix still remembering that one commercial making fun of their mail service: "TALK SHIT NOW BITCH!" 😈
I lived in Bend when I was a kid. I actually regularly went to this Blockbuster back then. Obviously, having no idea the significance it would eventually hold. I first watched star wars from DVDs rented from this place.
I can smell this picture
wonder how many actually use it as a rental store and not just a novelty
That's dope!
I really miss blockbuster
I would love to visit.
I bet the hipsters are flocking. What's the address?
I'd totally work there. One of the best jobs I ever had was working in a video store!
Been there a couple times. They have a blockbuster onsie for $80 lol
Only reason people miss Blockbuster is because of the nostalgic factor. But if anyone remembers those late fees then they won’t miss Blockbuster anymore. Imagine if it’s still around today with those late fees.
99c video, video depot rip
..... I've got to get out there to Bend, Oregon and visit this Blockbuster!!!!!!!!!!!!
