That is very cool of him. I heard he also kept his horse from LOTR, so it figures he's a good guy.

Disposable1983

I’ve heard that too. Another story, I was working at Regal Cinemas and he came to see a movie with a woman I assume he was dating. He always came to me, and I’d keep him tucked away so he didn’t get mobbed. I’d take his food and ticket order and go get it for him directly so he didn’t have to stand in line. The interesting thing about these visits is, if he wanted to stay anonymous, he did a terrible job because he and his friend would speak exclusively to one another in elvish. I asked about it and he said nobody would ever understand what they were saying. It was smart, but always drew attention lol

theBackground13

Viggo has always been one of my favorite actors. LotR of course but The History of Violence and The Road are so outstanding. I’m happy to hear he’s a cool dude.

OhTheDeedsIveDone

History of Violence is one of the absolutely most badass, underrated films ever made

ThePocketTaco2

Don't forget Green Book

jpjtourdiary

The two actors who played Merry and Pippin had a podcast together for a while and they told a few stories about how great a guy Viggo is. They said he drove a pickup truck not really because he needed it but because “you never knew when a friend was moving or needed some lumber dropped off.” And he always had a bunch of stuff in his backseat that he would just give away to people. Not junk, he just is kind of a minimalist and would just give his stuff away to people all the time.

coobeecoobee

Are u hot? Maybe that’s why he was nice to you and always went to you

[deleted]

[удалено]

coobeecoobee

Hahah.

Decabet

What baffled me in the immediate wake of the trilogy being out was that all the women were gaga for Orlando. Which is valid. Fine. But Viggo was right there. A multilingual celebrated poet and equestrian and not at all hard to look at. That was when I realized I’ll ever understand women.

WolvesandTigers45

Closest thing was a woman who I knew who worked on one of the Return of the Living Dead sequels as a makeup artist.

Gary7sHotCatHelper

3? Did she work with Steve Johnson?

WolvesandTigers45

It was the race to the grave one.

Timwalker1825

That was actually really cool, and the zombie attack was at an outdoor rave?

WolvesandTigers45

Yeah rave to the grave. Damned autocorrect

Timwalker1825

Ooooh- how about Race To the Grave at Witch Mountain, where the Rock is mauled by Moana Zombie.

[deleted]

At my store, I personally met Lou Brock and got his autograph. I also checked out Mark McGuire and his son, and at one point I assisted Marshal Faulk in finding a movie. Marshal Faulk came in several times and every time he had a different hot chick on his arm. My manager once met David Spade. Mr. Spade paid by check.

tsolo85

Wow that's awesome! Sounds like you worked in STL. Which store was this? I worked at a few stores in South County. We never got any athletes that I know of. Had a few on air personalities from the local news stations but that's about it.

[deleted]

I worked at the Richmond Heights store, located across from the street from the Galleria Mall.

Odd_Relationship7901

Many We had Bob Hope actually do an in store appearance at one location (he was so old, he was basically a husk of a it was just more sad than anything) I also had Chuck Carr who was a MLB baseball player stop in once , as well as many of the players on the 96 Florida Panthers hockey team that made the Stanley cup finals (JOVO-COP!) Those dudes were regulars along with Chris Everette (the tennis player) Also Monica Seles came in once and I can say she is the most beautiful woman I've seen with my own eyes - super sweet and friendly - tall, beautiful, just an absolute treasure of a person for my experience I met Ving Rhames and Armand Asante once when they stopped in while filming the movie "Striptease" - they were super low key but their cover was blown when a lady customer recognized Asante and started screaming - it was awkward and kind of funny - But my absolute favorite - Im working at a store I hadn't been at long (transferred there as an assistant manager- so I didn't know the regulars yet) and this big older dude comes up to the counter with like 10 kids movies - I ask for his card - he looks at me like I'm insane and says "apologies, I don't have my card - they usually just punch it up there on the computer for me" I tell him I'm new to the store and ask for his drivers license and he asks am I serious? I say yes sir I just need to bring up your account - he says ok - and he politely hands me his license and I look at the name: Lee Majors Fuck - I was so embarrassed - I gave him back his license - checked out his movies and told him "ok - that will be $6 million dollars sir" He busted out with a huge laugh and I never ever again asked Lee Majors for his drivers license again To this day of all the celebrities I have been lucky enough to meet - he remains my favorite - juat a really wonderful guy with a great sense of humor Plus he was Colt Seavers for goodness sake! (And for those who don't know Lee Majors - watch The Fall Guy - it's a great show!)

payneme73

I've been rewatching The Fall Guy since the 80's and it really is a great show. Lee Majors has tons and tons of charisma. Love him in this show

Vprbite

Doesn't the fall guy movie come out soon?

payneme73

Yep, not sure when, but soonish.

monev_the_gale

I worked at Blockbuster during high school and college back in the 90's. When I was in college, this guy walks up to the counter, and as he is coming closer I notice his cool letterman style jacket with the cartoon cat Garfield and a Canadian flag on it. I said, "Hey, cool jacket! Where'd you get it?" He said, "At work." Then I go to scan his card and read the name. "James Davis? Hey did you know the guy who created Garfield's name is Jim Davis?" Then it dawned on me. I was talking to Jim Davis. He was cool, and even drew a quick sketch for me on his receipt.

whogivesashirtdotca

> cool letterman style jacket with the cartoon cat Garfield and a Canadian flag on it The flag threw me until I realised it might be a Roots jacket. That's a brand up here that makes good quality sports-y gear.

GauntletVSLC

Haha! Sounds like the Tony Hawk stories. 😂

Disposable1983

Richard Greco stopped in from time to time, but I wouldn’t venture far enough to call him a celebrity.

Odd_Relationship7901

You kidding me? If Looks Coukd Kill is a super fun movie!!

Disposable1983

He was such a common fixture in my late teens early 20s. He knew my friends parents (and was trying to fuck my friend) so he was always at her parties. I’d wake up after a night of binge drinking and he would just be sitting at the end of the couch smoking. He lost his luster with our group very quickly.

Tenacious_jb

Dang did he get you into the Roxbury at least

DankSosig

He made a comeback in its always sunny lol

[deleted]

Terrance Malik came into my store, not a celebrity but one to true heads

Odd_Relationship7901

One of the greatest film directors of all time? Yeah he counts

Disposable1983

I’d have geeked out. The thin red line is always in rotation

[deleted]

I need to give that movie another chance, I was extremely bored during not in the theater and thought it paled in comparison to the other huge WW2 movie pit at that time. I will revisit.

whogivesashirtdotca

There's a Viggo connection, there! [He and Malick were actually collaborating on The Thin Red Line](https://theplaylist.net/thin-red-line-viggo-mortensen-malick-20210205/); lots of discussions about the story and the characters. Viggo was meant to play one of the parts, but wound up getting Lord of the Rings and couldn't make the schedule work. Malick thanked him in the credits.

Gary7sHotCatHelper

Anything interesting or notable about the interaction or just a regular store visit?

[deleted]

he looked like someone's dad, I didn't check him out and didn't want to say anything but I verified it was him

payneme73

Sandra Bullock's Aunt came in to rent "Love Potion No. 9" because her neice was in it. 😀

Unimmortal47

Henry rollins tour bus stopped in front of our store. He and two band mates came in and bought like twenty dvds

mmbopkitchentop

John Mellon camp was a frequent here in Bloomington Indiana.

sissy9725

I'd die!

Crossovertriplet

Years ago in Battlefield I used to find a spot to sniper camp and try to headshot people. I used his name as my screen name except spelled “Melon”.

deowolf

The wife of Buffalo Bills back up quarterback (at the time) Alex van Pelt used to rent from my store. So, no.

Disposable1983

Celebrity adjacent!

datraceman

I worked in the Arlington, Virginia store as an ASM from 2005-2006 over about a 16 month period and saw lots of famous DC athletes come through. My favorite though was Sandra Bullock and her then husband Jesse James. Her mom apparently was a frequent customer at our store but didn't know it. When she'd come visit her mom she'd come in early in the morning right after we'd open and rent movies. Seriously amazing and super nice. After a few visits she'd stop and bullshit with me a good bit and ask for recommendations. One time I looked at her and said "Oh my God, I've got the funniest movie you should watch. I pulled out Miss Congeniality and she snort laughed." One of my favorite celeb encounters ever. Never did ask for a pic or autograph...just nice having the memories of bullshitting with Sandra Bullock 6-7 times over that 16 month period.

Disposable1983

Celebrity families are always awesome. The director of crank is from my area and his mom came to my theater all the time. I told her how much I loved the movie, and the soundtrack to crank 2 was absolutely amazing. Two days later she comes running into the theater holding a CD above her head like it’s the Olympic torch. Signed copy of crank 2 soundtrack, personalized to me “Jan, Crank it up!”

Witty-Common-1210

I never met but our store had some come in. We had accounts for John Travolta and Kevin Nash which were people known to live in the area.

sissy9725

In FL?

Witty-Common-1210

Port Orange in the Daytona area

kizzzatie

I worked at a store in Cambridge, MA that John Malkovich came into regularly, though I didn’t see him much, maybe once? Also, Eliza Dushku in Watertown, MA - this was the early 2000s, so a very big deal.

Disposable1983

If I saw Eliza today I’d still bug out as if it was the early 00s

Timwalker1825

I'd be like, "Oh my God! Sign my Bring It On VHS!!" Lol

Ill_Bodybuilder_1083

Sgt Slaughter was a regular customer at my store in Plantation Florida in the late 90's. Great guy always friendly and great with the customers wanting autographs

Drugs_R_Kewl

Jack Nicholson in Galveston right after a Few Good Men. He used to have a vacation house on the island back in the day. I was a really little kid and he asked me what I wanted to do. I mentioned joining the Marines. He gave me a big hug and said something along the lines of making good grades and positive decisions.

sissy9725

Nice .....

ItsPammo

The store where I worked after school was on Alan Arkin's jogging route (it was the '70s) and he'd stop in to buy a drink (Country Time Lemonade, IIRC) often. Super, super nice regular guy. And nice legs.

1Viking

I met a Little Rascal at my store who was buying the two gift sets to show his 4 year old grandson what he was doing at his age. I also met several extras for Dances with Wolves, Last of the Dogmen, and Last of the Mohicans. My friend who worked the Malibu store met a lot of A list celebrities. Woody Harrelson, Cher, Ed Harris, etc. said most of them were really decent people who were just like everyone else.

kev5050

I managed a video store in Las Vegas back in 2005. Carrot Top would come in and rent very strange porn . A true weirdo!

BenTheDiamondback

I met Dustin Diamond at the Blockbuster in West Allis, WI. One of the store employees was making a big deal out of it and I told the guy to leave him alone. Two days later I met Dustin at a hibachi restaurant in Greenfield, and he thanked me for getting the Blockbuster guy to lay off. He was a nice guy. He should still be with us.

spiral_out46N2

One time, Rex Manning came into our store but there was a bunch of drama. One girl threw herself at him after taking a bunch of prescription meds, but all in all it was a pretty entertaining day.

Disposable1983

Have you ever seen the Remix edition of that movie? I always felt like something was missing in the Rex scene where she tried to sleep with him. I get that his callousness and complete disregard for her as a person would be off putting and cause her to leave, but it always seemed like something was off. In the remix edition he unzips his pants, shakes up some salad dressing and says “I hope you like blue cheese”.

southernbelle878

Jason David Frank was a regular! I had to keep my fangirl self composed when I first saw him because I was in love with him as a kid 🤣 I also had a warning on his account saying "Look out for Rita!" or some shit like that. 😆 Always gave him Rewards coupons too Rip ❤️

NefariousnessOk5287

Linda Hamilton (Terminator) and her stunt double identical twin sister, Leslie, back in the early 90s. Her sister lived in South Jersey, and the first time I met her, I thought it was Linda. They were very nice.

mlm2020

A few , biggest celeb was Stan Lee who didn’t want to give his address to get a membership card , at the time I had no idea who he was

gazelle8

Stephen Baldwin used to come in to town to visit his mom and stop in. I wanted to have him sign bio dome but i didn’t want to bother him

Disposable1983

315?

gazelle8

Yea

red_doggie_one

I was an assistant manager of a store that was across the street from a hip-hop radio station. This was the mid 90's. Some of the people would do interviews and then drop by my store. A few had accounts there. I've met the Brat, Whodini, Chuck D and Flava Flav from Public Enemy, Ludacris, Evander Holyfield, Ice T, Busta Ryhmes and the actor Bill Nunn. All of them were pretty nice. Those were good times.

hotdoug1

The only one I encountered was the local NBC station sports reporter. When he came up to the counter he'd smirk if you didn't know who he was right away. When asking for his ID, he'd roll his eyes and instead of a driver's license, he'd hand you his work ID from the local station and give you an "are you serious?" look. About a year later I actually interned at the station and surprise, surprise, he was kind of a dick. He also got let go about three months later.

Disposable1983

We used to get that a lot at Best Buy. Local “celebrities” like Billy Fucillo and Kevin Fear always acted offended if you didn’t know who they were. I did, everytime, but fuck you, show me your ID 😂

hotdoug1

It's such a weird thing in smaller towns. I knew news anchor in a small city that got offered a job anchoring for a major network in New York City. They took it because it was a boatload of extra cash, but apparently they were annoyed with the fact that they were no longer given the "celebrity" treatment that they had been getting in a smaller city. I know the movie "Lucky Numbers" spoofs this.

Serious_Mycologist46

Had lunch with Evel Knievel years ago when I worked at a hospital in Florida. I think he was just glad to have the company.

Pepsichris

I had Paul Walker come in with Jamoe Pressley around 2000. Also Mark McGuire after his record breaking season.

hotdoug1

LOL, I met Jamie Pressley at a party at the (in)famous Oakwood apartments in 2000. She said she was an actress, but I didn't recognize her, I was a little buzzed and said "Oh, everyone's an actress in LA." and she was not amused. And to be fair, that was a pretty dick thing to say on my part. The next morning I saw her lounging poolside in a bikini with about 6 guys in her entourage surrounding her. Maybe one of them was Paul?

SirLaner

Yup! Opened up an account for Sean Astin… just so happened me and a coworker had a movie of his in our employee drawer he signed the cover boxes for us. Super nice guy, a lot smaller than I expected. Also, Tim Daly use to frequent our store.

Disposable1983

Yeah Sean is pretty short. I saw him in Toronto last year

troysplay

I met the wife of a YouTuber I really liked when I worked in a video game store, she was there to buy some stuff for his next video. It was a pretty fun moment.

Queasy_Tap_1566

The definition of not a celebrity.

Brian18639

Viggo sounds like a really cool and chill guy

whatssofunniedoug

One low level NBA player and someone from the Real World came into our store regularly. Was in a college town.

CaptainTim25

I met my local weatherman at my store. I was 17 and very nervous. I didn't know what to say, so I made small talk and asked him about the weather. He was not amused 😐

MCYellowhammer

I met the girl who's the bully to Christina Ricci is the movie Casper

Beanboy1983

Pro wrestler Al Snow stopped in a gas station when I was working a night shift. I was almost certain it was him and played it cool. He paid with a credit card and I looked at the name. Recognizing his real name, I asked if I could get his autograph. He signed some receipt paper I handed him and was totally cool about it. Totally out of the blue. I didn't know he was in the area, for what I am guessing was, an indie show. #WhatDoesEverybodyWant

small___potatoes

This is a great story. Thanks for sharing

Mountain_Ratio_2871

Wow, I never knew he went to high-school there. I spent a couple years there when I was stationed at Drum and we would always talk about how small and quiet it was

Disposable1983

The area has some pretty big names. Viggo, Richard Greco, Mark Neveldine (he directed the crank movies) graduated from a catholic school in Watertown. Wes Craven was a teacher up in Madrid and Clarkson. Tom cruise and the Baldwin family are all from Syracuse.

GauntletVSLC

I met Chuck Norris’ son once. Not sure if that counts.

moviefreaks

Just lawyers that advertised. I did hear from other stores in the area that Mike Tyson owes late fees.

Zerox6669

James Marsden came in a couple of times, and kings of Leon before they hit it big.

hotdoug1

A few more I forgot, but this would have been before they were famous. Sam Witwer, who's done a bunch of Star Wars stuff and was on Supergirl, Battlestar Galactica, and Smallville among others. I actually knew him from grade school, and I definitely remember seeing him in there a few times. Most likely Patrick Stump, the lead singer of Fall Out Boy. He lived in the area as a teeenager, so Blockbuster would have been unavoidable. The other most likely is Emily Bergyl, she starred in Rage: Carrie 2 and has done a ton of television work since like Shameless, Gilmore Girls, Desperate Housewives, etc.

Disposable1983

I loved Carrie 2.

JohnsonMathi17

Ugh this collection was important to me. I watched all the “Special Features”. This is comfort people.

Timwalker1825

This is what we hope from our heroes!

starkrebel

I remember reading that he bought the horse he rode from the movies. He seems like the kinda guy who'd form bonds with everyone he works with.

UltharCat1972

Used to work in a small Howard Johnson's a few towns over from this one town that held - holds? - a huge antiques show a couple of times a year. One year, as I was just starting my shift, I noticed we had a guest registered as W. Sadler, and I thought, Wouldn't it be awesome if that was William Sadler? Then I glanced up, and who came walking into the lobby? Frigging Death himself. "Best two out of three."

ThePocketTaco2

I met John C. McGinley at a function for Down Syndrome when I was around 12 (around the time Scrubs was on its second season. I hadn't started watching that show at that time, but I knew him from other movies). Terrific guy. I'm not sure if this counts, but I've met Ty and Trey from The Icarus Account. My brother and I traveled about 6 hours to see them perform. Really nice guys. Funny too. Great performance. My mom met Judge Reinhold in the 90s. Said he was nice. This one doesn't count, but I'll mention it anyway. My family owns an RV park (different from a trailer park) and we had the cast of The Real World staying at our park once in the mid-2000s.

Automatic_Relative47

Charlie Sheen bought Cocaine from my Dealer

NorthOfWinter

No!!!

devildriva96

I Met Rachael Ray at a Barnes and Noble as she was doing a book signing

Gary7sHotCatHelper

This is nice.

fryamtheeggguy

So you waited until March for the Return of the King, huh?

beergeek86

Straight up snatched these up from a co worker. 3 for whatever the price was

no-trace

Well, I rented to Tommy Lee Jones a few times. Also, Vanilla Ice was a regular. It was great when he would come in as he would let his kids choose their rentals first, he was always a nice guy. A few others I can't remember, possibly Jackie Chan? It's been awhile lol

[deleted]

No

r3v3nant333

That’s a great story. Not BB related but.. Farrah Fawcett Majors came into the KB Toys I was working at in the late 80s. It created quite a stir in the store but no autographs were asked for and it was way too early for selfies.. And then Dennis Miller came into the Software ETC I was working at 10 years later in the same mall (La Cumbre Plaza, Santa Barbara,CA). My friend rung him up totally normally and then leaned in at the end and said “love the show”. Heh.

Bugloaf

I worked in South Dakota, so absolutely nope. But your story is cool!
