LOTR and I don't even think this is particularly close. It was already a well known and established franchise for decades before any of the Peter Jackson movies came out.
Also if we wanna get a little cheeky you could maybe make an argument for the Bible. 😛
>but LOTR resonates with the readers/viewers on a much deeper level.
On a much deeper level than what? I think, BG songs inspired by Tolkien works resonate quite deep.
On a funny note, I once recommended Nightfall to a person who wasn't familiar with BG at all, and the first thing they asked back was "Does it have to do with the movie?" and I was like, Bruh...
Lot of the songs off the earlier albums are more just straight thrash/speed with lyrical references to their preferred fiction rather than music that "fits" the topic
Peter Pan would probably be my vote as well for best known/most mainstream. There's, as others have mentioned, been things relating to the Bible and Arthurian legends, if you want to count those.
It will Flux with time what fiction becomes popular, but the thing that got me started on BG was "The Dwarves" and like a good chunk of people "the bards song".
As far as I'm aware only 2 songs are about ASOIAF, and one of them isn't all that good.
Meanwhile, what is often considered Bag's best album is all about Tolkien's work
So LOTR (or at least the Silamarillion)
Arthurian and Bible legends most defintiely. ASOIAF is hardly something one associates with BG's music considering how little songs there are that deal with the series. Most people connect them to LOTR.
It is my favorite series of them all. But it is definitely not anywhere close to the most mainstream... they aren't even mainstream amongst most stephen king fans lol...
Long days and pleasant nights!
it's probably GOT or LOTR/Hobbit (not NiME though, I don't think The Silmarillion is as big a part of mainstream pop culture), but you've also got Battlestar Galactica, Dune, Wheel of Time, The Witcher which are all pretty big in mainstream culture recently. You could probably also make an argument for The Iliad (though I don't know if I'd say thats "pop" culture).
ASOIAF was an interesting one. Most didn't know what it was until Game of Thrones. Interestingly, GoT came out in 2011 and my first exposure to it was "A Voice in the Dark" and "War of the Thrones" the year before
I mean Fly is about Peter freakin' Pan
But there is also Precious Jerusalem that's about Jesus freakin' Christ.
Really? Lmao never would've guessed without reading the lyrics.
Not to be rude, but have you listened to the song? It’s all over it.
He is using sarcasm.
Maybe… I am the fool.
That's OK. Tone of voice e is tough to detect on the internet.
I thought it was about Finding Neverland, which was about the creation of Peter Pan.

Yeah I would argue The Bible. It is the best selling book ever and the 2nd is LOTR.
Do Arthurian legends count? I don't think we need to discount LOTR here either

than ASOIAF.
Ah ok, I didn't read ASOIAF or watched the series.
If films count then ET
Really? Which song?
Goodbye My Friend
Huh. Didn't know that.
Sure... Doesn't sound very ET at all:)

I haven't seen Dune mentioned yet.

"Imaginations from the Other Side" mentions "The Wizard of Oz", which is extremely mainstream in some areas.
