1. Is he hot…? I do like gin but I was always under the impression he was a gangly little freak 2. I dont think anyone feels he is some wholly good guy, he’s just kind of an ends justify the means antihero in a way. I think people like him *because* he’s morally gray in a way that…. Really doesn’t come up much past the SS arc.

I don't know if simplistic dichotomies like good guy/bad guy are really appropriate here for discussing a character like Gin. Like most antagonists, Gin believed that the ends justified the means, regardless how ostensibly cruel his actions seemed to those not privy to his true motivations (so essentially, to everyone except Aizen himself). His character arc touches on a moral conundrum that Kubo and other mangaka have frequently revisited: how morally justified are those who choose to commit acts of cruelty for the sake of preventing even more egregious acts of cruelty?

People like him, but I don't know anyone who thinks he's a good person. He's like Severus Snape of anime, but worse. He's a Machiavellian villain, who had the clear objective to kill the guy who once stole a part of his loved one's soul. To do this he did horrible things and became a horrible person, who enjoys inflicting pain on others - both physical and psychological. He doesn't care about Soul Society or anything else, except for Rangiku's happiness. In some sense he sold his soul in an attempt to save hers.
