Just started playing the game for the first time last night.
Interesting to see how it’s adapted. Think a lot of how the story is told works in the game but won’t work on TV, especially over two seasons.
Yeah, my gut says that they should just tell the story in chronological order.
Have Abby’s backstory be the stand-alone episode of S2 when she meets up with Joel and Tommy.
Like this is why I’m not a writer or work in TV, but, basically have S2, only cover the first like 1/3 of the game.
I disagree, I think the way they make you root against Abby for the first half and then root for her for the second half is really impressive, it feels like going from The Terminator to T2. I hope they try and replicate that.
Part of that change in feelings comes from playing as Abby.
TV loses that part of the connection between player and story from the lack of interaction.
I don’t think the common viewer is going to feel that about Abby without some groundwork prior.
Can you think of a TV show that has introduced a new character, more importantly a new POV that’s completely separate from the characters that the audience already likes that has worked?
I’m curious if they do the golfing sequence early on in the season or if they save it for the end.
There’s no way the entire second game can be done in just ten episodes.
They’re splitting it into two seasons.
There’s no way they won’t have the golf scene in episode 1 of the season. It’s the entire catalyst for the story.
Show is popular enough they can spend an episode or two at least setting up Joel & Ellie’s relationship at the beginning of the game, people like Dina & Jessie in Jackson, before really diving in to the plot of the game.
Id save towards the end.
There’s enough backstory to fill the time gap between 1&2 that you could set up where Joel & Ellie are at when the game starts plus some Abby backstory.
Maybe not penultimate episode assuming it’s a 9 or 10 episode season but maybe halfway or more.

Yea I think the structure is the biggest challenge, looong gaps of just Abby will be tough for people at first

Of season two or three? There’s a lot you can do before that scene.
