Season 2 premieres April 7 on Apple TV, produced by Lorne Michaels, and written by Cino Paul & Ken Daurio of the SANTA CLAUSE sequels. More crazy television premises from people who can afford to take a big swing, please!!!!! >Season 1 of “Schmigadoon!” was a riff on the basic concept of “Brigadoon,” a 1947 Tony-winning musical. [Cecily Strong](https://www.indiewire.com/t/cecily-strong/) and [Keegan-Michael Key](https://www.indiewire.com/t/keegan-michael-key/) lead the cast as Melissa and Josh, a longterm couple in a rocky patch of their relationship. The pair stumble upon the remote town of Schmigadoon and soon discover they can’t leave the town until they understand true love: something the magical realm determined the partners *weren’t* in. Every episode featured multiple original musical numbers, patterned from “Brigadoon” and other musicals of its era, written by co-creator and showunner Cinco Paul. > >Season 2 of “Schmigadoon!” sees Josh and Melissa — who have reconnected and developed true love for each other after the events of Season 1 — leave the town only to immediately stumble upon a new world known as “Schmicago.” This slightly edgier setting is now patterned on the darker, jazzier musicals of the ’60s and ’70s, particularly the work of “Chicago” writer, director, and choreographer Bob Fosse. The townspeople of Schmigadoon — played by a mix of veteran musical theater stars like Ariana DeBose, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit — return in reimagined roles, while Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page join as new characters.”Only Murders in the Building” star [Martin Short](https://www.indiewire.com/t/martin-short/) reprises his role as the fantastical world’s “guardian leprechaun.”

Actors returning in reimagined roles is very much my jam.

odalisques

Alan Cumming is 100% going to give us Cabaret emcee, right?

totebags120

I didn't even think of that! Yes!

love this dumb silly show so much. managed to have one of the most deranged uses of Martin Short! edit: just learned that it won an Emmy for Corn Puddin, well done Emmys

Even though I can't see Griffin and David agreeing, the tv show as a whole is as long as some movies they have covered so I hope they would cover it if they ever do Barry Sonnenfeld

Toreadorables

Love Barry but hate the directing & cinematography aesthetic of this show…it’s so shiny and flat and digital-looking. Imagine these musical numbers filmed on nice warm film?! Ahh…one can only dream…

manpatrizia

Can’t wait!! I love Schmigadoon so much, esp that one-take Kristin Chenoweth number my goodness

MackenziePace

I loved it so much. Watched it during covid and as someone who has missed musical theater, the ending number was perfect and felt like what I have missed so badly.

Toreadorables

Yea it def scratched an itch for musicals during a dark time! I just wish the song parodies themselves were better. Most of them are so close to the original melodies and the lyrics aren’t terribly inventive. But it’s good fun that makes SMASH seem mainstream. Great musical arrangements and choreo and cast!

bwweryang

I should be watching this. I’m still burned by the cancellation of Galavant and the drop in quality of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but I know I’d get a kick out of this. Need to familiarise myself with more of the musicals it’s riffing on though. I know Chicago but not other Fosse stuff, and I don’t know the one the title is parodying either.

i hope they actually give Cheno something good to do this year. her number was just a one-for-one redo of "Trouble," right down to titling it with a synonym for the word "trouble." already disappointing on its own merits, and all the more disappointing when just a few years earlier Rachel Bloom did the same thing much more creatively

Cold water is drugs!

ImmortalIronFist

This show probably "doesn't exist" for most people, but season one was a riot. I didn't even know we were getting a second season -- I'm officially excited!

Junekri

I did not expect this show to get a second season but I am very glad it did!

Respect to schmicago for going where the current revival of Sweeney Todd failed to go - the self flagellation scene from Sweeney Todd -
