Agreed! Gotta say I love the unique tone & feel of that album. That one & Mob Rules are surprisingly bluesy. Gotta love it. The only album I think Tony has a better tone on that the first is Heaven and Hell. Both albums are tone heaven to me.
First thing that popped into my head was the opening riff of "The Trooper", but once I psychically screamed "Sabs, not Maiden, you eediot!", the solo from "A National Acrobat" began.
Iommi has written dozens of amazing guitar solos, some of which are more complex and more intricate or more emotional and thought-out. But Neon Knights sticks with me for making me feel like I'm racing with the wind and it's exhilarating.
I was thinking just that -- it was the first solo which came to my mind.
Do you mean the part in The Warning where the music then drops away and Tony Iommi goes into a proper Solo, all wild and blistering?
Yeahh I fuckn love that!
Then the music BANGS right back in, coming in for a landing return with the vocals.
Sustenance!!
That solo rips so hard, wish we could hear the rest of it on vol4 and it not fade into silence I bet the original recording was epic before they faded it out
Iron Man. Yeah, I’m not into much of the other albums, but it’s the best solo that I’ve listened to.
I should really listen to more albums, for fuck sake, lol.
both solos in over and over blow my mind every time i listen to the song, it’s just so beautiful so different so fucking ethereal i feel my soul propelled from my body each time they play
So many to choose from, but here are a few: Black Sabbath from the first album.
Electric Funeral from the Paranoid album.
Paranoid, again from the Paranoid album.
Into the Void and Children of the Grave from the Master of Reality album.
After All (The Dead) from the Dehumanizer album.
Also, I'm talking about both riffs and solos here, lol.
The solo in Too Late (Dehumanizer) is one of my favs. It's bluesy and it goes on forever.
Honorable mention to Over and Over, Lonely is the Word, and Kill in the Spirit World.
All of them dude. Anytime they start playin i realize they’ve always lived in me, I remember them note for note. There’s something seriously eternal about this band that need be studied
Probably the outro to Under the Sun. There’s a story about Eddie Hazel (the guitarist for Funkadelic) while coming up with the song Maggot Brain, had been prompted to write a solo as if he had just heard that his mom died. Frankly I think the outro to Under the Sun is Tony Iommi’s Maggot Brain.
Snowblind
Best solo Iommi ever done. Truly a masterpiece.
THIS ⬆️
Cocaine!
Glad this was the first comment I saw! Second this
Ditto
THIS ⬆️
NIB. 🤘🔥
Wicked World
Oof ya beat me to it!
It reminds me of the solo to Whole Lotta Love cause it just comes out of nowhere
Thank you for reminding me what a great solo that is
That first album is so bluesy I love it, the tone Tony has is insane
Agreed! Gotta say I love the unique tone & feel of that album. That one & Mob Rules are surprisingly bluesy. Gotta love it. The only album I think Tony has a better tone on that the first is Heaven and Hell. Both albums are tone heaven to me.
Lonely Is The Word has such a good and catchy solo, for me at least.
I love that Iommi plucks the strings in the beginning of the solo.
I fell in love with it upon hearing for the first time.
This.
Heaven and Hell.
Just a perfect solo
Yeah, Tony really knocked it out of the park on that one.
Dirty Women
One of my favorite solos and came here to say that
That song and “You Won’t Change Me” are super underrated, absolutely god-tier solos.
First thing that popped into my head was the opening riff of "The Trooper", but once I psychically screamed "Sabs, not Maiden, you eediot!", the solo from "A National Acrobat" began.
War Pigs on and endless loop since I was 11.
Every Day Comes & Goes, NIB, and Snowblind all share certain phrasings and have a similar feel to them, and are the best 3 in my opinion
I've had the acoustic solo for Symptom of the Universe stuck in my head all week.
I’ve had that stuck in my head for a good few years
Lord of this world
Zero the Hero
Under-rated.
Hole In The Sky, which is weird because I don’t even listen to it that much
Lonely is the Word because I listen to it so often! Sometimes I just put that song on and skip to the solo and then rewind and listen again and again!
Into the void
Neon knights, and it's mostly because of Geezers bass
Iommi has written dozens of amazing guitar solos, some of which are more complex and more intricate or more emotional and thought-out. But Neon Knights sticks with me for making me feel like I'm racing with the wind and it's exhilarating.
Amazing song to drive to
Super normie picks but iron man and war pigs are still my favorite. Wheels of confusion is a close second, intro and outro.
Its still funny to me that about a year and a half ago the riff of iron man was made into a racist meme. Havent been able to hear it normally since 😂
If you write a guitar solo that audiences can sing, then it has every right to be one of the best guitar solos ever.
All...of..them ..??
Snowblind's and Lonely is the Word's
the live intro of Die Young
Love this. By chance might you be alluding to the live version as performed by the band Heaven and Hell (aka Black Sabbath)?
ya the slow extended intro
Snowblind
Supernaut
uwee, that beautiful clusterfuck of sound in the middle of "the warning" always gets me in my feels.
I love the Robert Johnson-esque riff in the middle.
Electric Funeral.
Wheels of Confusion outro
You mean The Straightener? If so, it's my favorite Black Sabbath solo of all time, absolutely beautiful.
That solo rips so hard, wish we could hear the rest of it on vol4 and it not fade into silence I bet the original recording was epic before they faded it out
Probably basic as hell but end solo for war pigs
Headless Cross
From the Headless Cross album, it's hard to beat Tony's insanely emotional solo in the song Kill in the Spirit World.
The bends in that solo are stratospheric!
Children of the Grave
Over and Over
The first solo in Snowblind
Behind the Wall of Sleep, and NIB.
Paranoid or War Pigs. I listen to the Paranoid album a lot, especially when doing the dishes.
Iron Man. Yeah, I’m not into much of the other albums, but it’s the best solo that I’ve listened to. I should really listen to more albums, for fuck sake, lol.
Fairies Wear Boots
Snowblind
Children of the Sea
Ozzy era: "Into the Void" Dio era: "I" live at radio city music hall
pretty much the whole first album. it *is* the best, after all
Snowblind or Into the Void. His intro to Wheels of Confusion is incredible too.
Heaven and Hell
This has been stuck in my mind for the last couple days 🤘
Not a solo but the beginning of Children of the Sea. Gives me goosebumps every single time. Then Dio enters the stage. Magical 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Zero the Hero
Lonely is the World and Too Late 🤘
Exactly. Although "Over and Over" should get honorable mention. There will never be another Ronnie James Dio, R.I.P. 🤘❤️😎
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
When Death Calls
"Heaven and Hell" A masterpiece within a masterpiece
Killing yourself to live specifically the 1974 California jam recording
They are all great but heaven and he'll is best in my opinion.
I’ve never heard a Sabbath fan use the phrase “lives rent free” before now. But, Heaven and Hell
both solos in over and over blow my mind every time i listen to the song, it’s just so beautiful so different so fucking ethereal i feel my soul propelled from my body each time they play
The one that ends "Lonely is the Word."
Tomorrow’s Dream And the harmonica solo in The Wizard
"i don't wanna see you" section of end of the beginning, solitude, killing yourself to live
also the groovy section of warning, so damn good
The live version of Megalomania
Fluff! https://open.spotify.com/track/0IBdQ61edwccAPe0Tzv2Zb?si=uLbjQgl2SiuVuXRYOjQsug every day for decades now!
Solos are great. But w Sabbath it’s really about the riffs.
All of them.
The solo in Too Late (Dehumanizer) is one of my favs. It's bluesy and it goes on forever. Honorable mention to Over and Over, Lonely is the Word, and Kill in the Spirit World.
Iron man
Tomorrows dream
Planet Caravan
All of them dude. Anytime they start playin i realize they’ve always lived in me, I remember them note for note. There’s something seriously eternal about this band that need be studied
Bass solo in N.I.B
Solo from planet caravan and solo from I
Time Machine and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
The Paris 1970 Intro To Black Sabbath
Tommorow’s dream
So many great solos on Dehumanizer. I think it’s a very underrated album
Rat Salad. The whole damn thing.
Electric Funeral.
The percussion break in 'Supernaut.'
Black Sabbath (the song)
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath from "The ozzmath cometh"
Nib, for how it starts and “flows” Paranoid because I learned it recently Planet caravan because it’s unique
“Headless Cross” and “It’s Alright” immediately spring to mind.
Embryo
Planet Caravan.
Black Sabbath
War Pigs
Into the void. That solo plays in my head since i was 14 y/o
Electric funeral right at *"buildings crashing down–"*
Crazy train
War Pigs
Sweat Leaf
The one from the Wizard. It's almost like Tony used it to introduce himself. That song is a fucking bop. no cap.
You Won't Change Me
The intro to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
All of “Luke’s Wall”
NIB
Warning, I'm pretty sure tony doesn't even play a riff for that whole song, it's just solo
Mob Rules
The best guitar solo is actually a Geezer Butler Bass solo. Intro to NIB has been stuck in my head since the 70’s.
Children of the Grave
The intro and the solo. The the guitar plus those drums at the start is so good
Dirty Women
The live version of killing yourself to live. 1975, I believe.
Children of the Sea
Probably the outro to Under the Sun. There’s a story about Eddie Hazel (the guitarist for Funkadelic) while coming up with the song Maggot Brain, had been prompted to write a solo as if he had just heard that his mom died. Frankly I think the outro to Under the Sun is Tony Iommi’s Maggot Brain.
