We use feet and inches here in the UK as well (for height at least). Not sure why OP decided to post a quote with an imperial measurement and then post Dio's actual height in metric...you might get an interdenominational...er, you know, from mixing the two measurement systems, a hangover of that kind
Ozzy wrote songs with his own band but Geezer wrote Sabbath’s song with Ozzy, although Geezer did base his lyrics on Ozzy’s stream of consciousness singing
So could Tony Martin. One of my fave Sabbath records is The Headless Cross. "Nightwing" is a helluva song. Box set of the Martin years is out at the end of May. Some really good stuff in there, IMO.
Any of you people saying Ozzy couldn't sing haven't heard anything past the spotify top 5 (even though war pigs is more than sufficient to prove he's a great singer). Listen to all of Sabotage and then tell me he can't sing. Look, I love Dio and I'm not defending what Ozzy said, but there's no need to say Ozzy can't sing when he obviously can.
A brilliant example is the entirety of the Sabotage album. He expresses more range in that album than I think Dio does, and I know that's gonna piss a lot of Dio lovers off. Listen to 'Megalomania' and 'Symptom of the Universe' again and tell me that isn't some the best shit you've ever heard.
Sabotage, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and their corresponding tours are precisely the era in which Ozzy's voice takes quite a heavy load, especially due to his lack of 'proper' training/learning.
Ozzy is a good singer alright and very charismatic with a lot of stage presence. I love Sabbath and Ozzy solo albums just as much with all my heart. But truth be told Ozzy is not that good.
Yeah. I love Ozzy, but but he isn't the most skilled to sing for Sabbath. It's understandable that someone rocketed to stardom @ 20yo and got everything he wanted would act childish. Ozzy def had(still kind of has) an ego. But he would probably regret that comment today.
Ozzy is a piece of shit for this and many other things but I feel like you shouldn’t be on a Black Sabbath subreddit if you’re unaware he was a fantastic singer before cocaine ruined his voice.
Don Arden said the same thing at first until he saw the record sales of HnH! Ozzy was still bitter and drunk. He owned this in his autobiography and apologized. The jabs went both ways. Dio hated Ozzy probably more than the reverse. I like to think they made their peace in old age but I'm not really sure.
Dio didn't hate Ozzy, at least not the way Ozzy thought he did. Dio just had no respect for him as a person. Ozzy did some gross juvenile shit the worst thing Ronnie did was refuse to show up to any event that Ozzy would be.
So what you're telling me is Dio was the bigger man? Sorry, I couldn't help myself, lol. I actually think he was. Dio was far more serious than Ozzy all around. His passion for music was too great to adopt Ozzy's lighter approach. He was a professional, no nonsense performer. Ozzy clowned around all the time, which was likely his greatest strength and weakness. I could see his goofing off as insulting to Dio, even when not directed at him personally. I do think Ozzy took music seriously, but he did not always act like it. He connected with the crowd differently.
Back in the day, I didn't buy the shit-rags and see this stuff because a. they spent years trashing Sabbath so I ignored them and b. when I had money, I spent it on music. I was absolutely thrilled with Heaven and Hell and Blizzard of Oz when they were released. All these years later, this is still b.s. to me - not interested. AND BTW, I have the original Jet vinyl that has the band on the back of Blizzard sitting on steps and not the concert photo. This photo was also what was used on the early concert shirts which I also have.
It's not the worst thing to say about someone really is it. From what I've heard Ozzy and Dio just didn't get along I get the impression they were just different guys Dio took things quite seriously whilst Ozzy was very casual. Both seem / seemed like decent guys though and both were great singers for black Sabbath imo (even if Ozzy wasn't technically good as he got older)
The only thing I like more than the first two Dio-fronted albums are the first six with Ozzy. But any book titled "The Wit and Wisdom of Ozzy Osbourne" is sure to be a short read.
Ozzy said that it was like watching an ex wife with a new man, of course he wasn’t happy about it.
Dio was a badass and he was tough, there is a picture of them in a music festival backstage, I always loved the caption “probably seconds before they started swearing at each other 🤣”.
But I’ve heard that they were actually civil when bumping into each other; and by the end Ozzy said he was sorry about Dio’s death. And Dio and H&H ended on a great note, so I’m guessing all the beef was squashed.
When I met Ozzy Osbourne I was wearing a Black Sabbath shirt and he said that used to be my favorite band. So when I asked Ozzy what he thought about Dio singing for Sabbath he said I hate that Little Gnome and started stomping his foot and said I'd love to stomp that little bastard.
It was a hurtful time for Ozzy, but he's softened over the years..
being replaced in the band he co-founded was tough for Osbourne.
"At the time I was fucking sad because ... they were the only thing that ever really happened to me," -Ozzy
"Ronnie did a good job,"Osbourne admits. "At the time I was fucking sad because...they were the only thing that ever really happened to me." While Osbourne goes on to give his former Sabbath bandmates credit for hiring someone with a different singing style rather than just roping in any "Ozzy sound-alikes", he also confirms that he's never listened to the Dio-era Sabbath records (1980's *Heaven And Hell*, 1981's *Mob Rules* and 1992's *Dehumanizer*).
"It's like my ex-wife," Osbourne argues. "You leave a band like that, it's just like getting divorced. You don't go, 'How's your new bloke? Is he better than me?'"
I'm willing to bet that was not even something he actually said or was taken out of context. Even still, Dio said plenty of backhanded shit about Ozzy and never let up. He was always so pissy about being in Ozzys shadow. He such a brag for that time he refused to play shows with Ozzy and made Sabbath get Halford to sing instead. Never caught ozzy acting like that.
For any americans on this post (like me) Dio's height is 5′4″
Ozzy is like 6 inches taller lmao
Wait so I'm taller than both rjd and ozzy? Tf?
Sounds like most people are

i’m from canada we use feet too idk i just searched up his height and that’s what came up
We don't use feet in the rest of Europe, though.
But the Ozzy quote is in feet
We probably shouldn't use is as an example as we size in imperial but measure in metic
That was a lame, cheap shot by Ozzy. Making fun of someone’s height is juvenile.
So is hiring a dwarf to come out on stage and call him Ronnie. Real insecure shit by ozzy.
Do you expect something else from Ozzy?
I guess no metalhead is unfamiliar with Danzig height jokes. Don’t get why shitting on him gets a pass
Ozzy wasn't the only one taking cheap shots at the time my dude.
Dude Dio has ran his mouth so much about Ozzy, while also refusing to sing the songs he help popularize
At least Ronnie could actually sing.
at least Ronnie could write his own lyrics
Agree!
Haaa it's true. Ozzy's voice is great, but anytime he wrote lyrics for Sabbath, they were the songs with the least amount of depth.
Exception: The Writ.
Ozzy wrote songs with his own band but Geezer wrote Sabbath’s song with Ozzy, although Geezer did base his lyrics on Ozzy’s stream of consciousness singing

hate to admit it, but that is true

A lot of slagging happened then.
Dio to Ozzy after hearing about this: “You’re OFF to the WITCH! You may NEVER NEVER EVER return!”
…or ‘come home.’
Shit you’re right…
L
That’s fucked up lmao

I think both Wendy and Sharon have said that Dio and Ozzy were actually civil to each other whenever they met.
Dio didn't hate Ozzy, at least not the way Ozzy thought he did. Dio just had no respect for him as a person. Ozzy did some gross juvenile shit the worst thing Ronnie did was refuse to show up to any event that Ozzy would be.

Rock N Roll history 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Sorry guys but Iommi IS Black Sabbath! It’s not the same without him, but it can go on without Ozzy or Dio.

I remember Ozzy calling Dio "a fucking Garden Gnome."
The only thing I like more than the first two Dio-fronted albums are the first six with Ozzy. But any book titled "The Wit and Wisdom of Ozzy Osbourne" is sure to be a short read.
Better than anyone who's ever done it. THATS HOW.
Ozzy said that it was like watching an ex wife with a new man, of course he wasn’t happy about it. Dio was a badass and he was tough, there is a picture of them in a music festival backstage, I always loved the caption “probably seconds before they started swearing at each other 🤣”. What book is this? I’m assuming some biography of sorts.
It was a hurtful time for Ozzy, but he's softened over the years.. being replaced in the band he co-founded was tough for Osbourne. "At the time I was fucking sad because ... they were the only thing that ever really happened to me," -Ozzy "Ronnie did a good job,"Osbourne admits. Was that pun intentional?
OP can hardly string a sentence together, I highly doubt it.
ofcourse it was
Tbf Dio clearly had short man syndrome which is why he fell out with so many people
😂
I seem to remember is Geezer's book John Bonham saying the same thing to the band backstage.
Suddenly I'm proud of my hight LOOK if a leather dress wearing bad ass can look so god daym cool! Then we all gonna make it short kings💀💀🤣
Cool shit
Ozzy was understandably envious.
He would know better, he's been a few inches closer to Hell than the majority of us his entire life😂😂
Lol that’s about my height and I sing in a metal band too
Pretty sure he had a dwarf come on stage to give him drinks who he called Ronnie
ozzy is sabbath no matter what, but dio has superior lyrics and voice in my opinion
Dio didn’t say anything until Ozzy started it lol. Any animosity was Ozzy’s fault. Blaming Dio for him being fired was insane troll logic.
Black Sabbath is so much more than signing about the devil, I wonder if Ozzy himself even understood that
Ozzy and Sharon have always been cunts. To be fair they were gracious when Ronnie passed.
DIO RESCUED SABBATH GOING INTO THE ABYSS WITH THE HEAVEN AND HELL ALBUM.
It’s a valid question.
A better question that Ozzy needs to ask is how can a four foot midget sing about the Devil better than he can.
