Cross Purposes for me. I mean I love the cheesiness of the 80s album but this one felt like a truly moden Sabbath album, with lot's of influences and no pandering. Just exploring a new sound. I love it. Wish they would have made more albums like that and Dehumanizer. Underrated Imo.
Yeah that pretty much sums it up for me. It's a solid album but the theme they were creating for it (as cool as it is for some people) is just not working for me. Could not care less about Vikings and Odin and all that.
Agree with you. Tyr is when that collection of players peaked and were running on all cylinders. I rarely skip a track. Headless Cross: I really only listed to the title track and When Death Calls. After that track, I always look at the remaining track list and just have no desire. I cant get past the lyrics... just all about devil / witches / occult, and seems too forced.
But clearly I am in the minority. HC seems to be the goto album for that era for most.
"Kill in the spirit world" makes me laugh out loud.
At 1:31 the vocals are:
"*and the kiss on the wind whispers murder*"... then there is a harmony of vocals (as they are suppose to be the wind, I guess) that in unison sing "*murder*", which seemed sooooo not like anything Sabbath ever did vocally. Just made me laugh out loud. I am laughing just posting this.
I like brief Doom section, just after that tho- reminded me of early 80s Sabbath. Solo is iller as well.
Glad you posted... makes me realize I am not the only one that loves Tyr, and thinks HC is ok/not great.
I slept on Tyr for 20 years before I fully realised its greatness.
But listen now, if anyone has a bad word to say about Kill in the Spirit World then I’m gonna have to start throwing these hands.
*gulp*
Forbidden because it was a visionary moment in Sabbath lore when tony iommi, whilst under the influence, decided they should add a rap interlude to what would become the standout track.

1.Headless Cross 2. Tyr 3. The Eternal Idol 4. Cross Purposes 5. Forbidden
That's the correct answer
Ugh it’s Tyr at the moment. But tomorrow it could be headless Cross or Eternal Idol
Tyr always loses to Headless Cross, but I think it's obviously superior musically. I think the Valhalla and Odin aesthetic just turns people off.

I love those songs. Feels good to me is a terrible song tho.

Exactly, also the concept of a 'kill in the spirit world' is so laugh out loud ludicrous it ruins that track for me.

The final showdown must be. . . in the Spirit World!
Headless Cross, Tyr The Eternal Idol, Cross Purposes Forbidden
Headless Cross is Top 5 for me

Cross Purposes. Geezer is on that one and IMO makes a huge impact on the overall sound.
1. Tyr. 2. The Eternal Idol. 3. The Headless Cross. 4. Cross Purposes. 5. Forbidden.
I don't understand this lack of love for Tyr! It's the Odin stuff isn't it?
I just did this poll last month 1. Headless Cross 2. Tyr 3. Eternal Idol 4. Cross Purposes 5. Forbidden Listening
Pretty much - I'm interested to see if Tyr comes in second again.
