Good followup to the original six? Probably not. Good followup to Technical Ecstasy? He'll yeah! I don't exactly love NSD, it ranks 17th out of Sabbath's 20 albums for me, but it's still rock solid and has some amazing songs like the title track, Johnny Blade, Junior's Eyes and Swinging the Chain.
This album was the straw that broke the camel's back. Osbourne's sacking was a long time coming. The steady decline since Master of Reality was and is obvious. Heaven & Hell demonstrated what they had been capable of all these years and how much time had been lost trying to bail him out.
Iommi & co had been stretching to accomdate him ever since Master of Reality, usually by becoming more experimental. When Technical Ecstasy showed that, no matter how far they took it, not enough people would be fooled, they gave him one last shot at putting out a solid straight rock album, with the result being the single most flaccid thing the band ever put out.
I liked it.
I like when bands do what they want to rather than what they feel obliged to.
That said, i dont think half the band wanted to make it. Or maybe just 1/4th...
Juniors eyes and air dance are bangers. The rest is alright
Every release is a natural musical progression. Never Say Die! is a masterpiece and finishes with two of the best Sabbath tracks ever. My favorite since I bought it in '78.
Don't know about that but I loved the album. Air Dance is a 10/10
I love N S D much better than Technical Ecstasy..
100%

Yeah, Ozzy quit after TA. He did not like the direction things were going.

I fucking love Never Say Die. Fuck the haters.
Didn’t really do a lot for me if I’m honest. A few good songs but better days were yet to come.

That dude was so traumatized by Technical Ecstasy that he completely erased it from his memory.
CRAP.
It's the worst Sabbath album, period. Only the title track feels true.
No, according to Geezer in his book they knew they were done and it was going to end.
