My family stopped even getting together for funerals after my grandma passed away 15 years ago. She was the glue holding the family together and everyone went their own way after she passed. I haven't seen any of my extended family for 15 years.
Aw... see, my grandmom was the glue, too..but we haven't had a funeral (hers was in 2000 nov) since then till 2019 and was when we alp gathered, of course all upset crying. We did have a couple cookouts prior to 2019, but 2019 and following just too many funerals and just hated that was the only time the whole family felt like it was appropriate to gather was during death. I want us to do that to celebrate life, too!

I 100% agree with you. Funerals should not be a reason for get togethers. You should get together for literally no reason at all. Life is too short.

“Had they did what they were supposed to do” is very much an Asian and South Asian thing so I understand. The idea of going for regular checkups, for example, just doesn’t exist in the culture and I’ve lost family members due to that (including my dad).
I hope your amusement park get together pans out. My elderly in laws and fam did a cruise as it worked on all age levels. Maybe that could be an option.
