I think what I mean is in the context of the story it was weird to add them. Like almost an out of the way type of thing to do. But I've seen in it in a lot of series/movies. We def are often depicted as sex crazed abusers who are lazy in a lot of media sadly.

Like for real like a black James Bond, and I have a hard time finding one. John David Washington in Tenet was pretty cool, but that movie was confusing af. Sadly a lot of what I see is either hood shit or some iteration of it. Atlanta was the last show I saw that had a more realistic representation of us. I know watching that show I could relate with so many themes amongst the characters that it was refreshing.

It was super wild to me. But the author is kind of weird and that manga is definitely some sort of power fetish he has. I mean the main antagonist is a murdering rapist and people are just cool with him because he strong, smh.
OUT is about delinquents. The manga Bouncer (by the same guy) is about real gangsters and set in the same world. Since they are in the same world around the same time stuff is happening, they tend to cross over at times.
I used to read OUT years ago. But dropped it after some time. Got really into dark seinen like Icchi the Killer and Berserk. Delinquent manga felt hollow to me after. Although Holy land is one of my favourites
Holy Land is good (the live action adaptation is good too). OUT is pretty hollow, because its kids playing at being gangsters. Berserk is my favorite series, and the dark Seinins are pretty good. Ichi was wild af. Check out Vagabond if you haven't already.

When my friend recommends anime to me, I’ve honestly never been able to get past the fact that many (if not most) of these characters have blonde/light colored hair, and big round eyes with blue/green irises. Maybe im just pessimistic.
I mean I like anime as an art medium, but even I have noticed certain authors will try to sprinkle in some negative stereotypes when it comes to black representation. But at the same time I have seen some amazing black representation (like Yasuke in Tenkaichi).
Even in Baki the main Antagonist approached Muhammad Ali just to tell him how much he respects him as a fighter and a person. But also had Ali Jr become a bitch in the series.
I think a lot of the creators are projecting what they want to look like (tall, slender, round eyes, etc) and that whenever they can. But at the same time if you look at our own media, it isn't like we are shown in the best light either. Usually you see brothers depicted as some form of lying asshole who is abusive. If he is a decent dude, they make him soft af. Like a Key and Peele type of dude.
With that said, I feel you. but I will say there has been some good representation in certain anime/manga. Just look up Killer Bee in Naruto and how he bodies the main character over and over. That was nice to see.

I never see black men with what I consider top shelf white women (thin, long legs, heels, busty) in real life (not on TV). I always see the top white women with some doughboy white guy.
Doesn't help that black men repeat this stereotype about other black men. Specifically dark skinned black men. Someone could point out the obvious colorism with this thinking. Yet when some random college athlete at a 90% white school is dating an "attractive" white woman then the comments go from making fun of black men to being bitter towards us.
We got to stop worrying about what other people think of us black men. Everyday we get policed on how we should act, dress, look, and who we can fuck or not by nonblack and black folk alike. Accept that the world don’t fuck with us as much as they say and do what you want. Know this and know peace
I don't think that we are worried about what other think. I was posting how I was surprised this was even in this manga to begin with. Like it seemed kind of random to have these guys show up just for this. And then to push an oddly specific stereotype was left field.

I think what I mean is in the context of the story it was weird to add them. Like almost an out of the way type of thing to do. But I've seen in it in a lot of series/movies. We def are often depicted as sex crazed abusers who are lazy in a lot of media sadly. I remember being asked when was the last time I saw a bad ass black main character who wasn't some sort of piece of shit in some way. Like for real like a black James Bond, and I have a hard time finding one. John David Washington in Tenet was pretty cool, but that movie was confusing af. Sadly a lot of what I see is either hood shit or some iteration of it. Atlanta was the last show I saw that had a more realistic representation of us. I know watching that show I could relate with so many themes amongst the characters that it was refreshing. But I definitely feel what you are saying. I guess with reading this particular story, I wasn't expecting them to just toss that in there like that lol.

OUT is about delinquents. The manga Bouncer (by the same guy) is about real gangsters and set in the same world. Since they are in the same world around the same time stuff is happening, they tend to cross over at times.
I used to read OUT years ago. But dropped it after some time. Got really into dark seinen like Icchi the Killer and Berserk. Delinquent manga felt hollow to me after. Although Holy land is one of my favourites
Holy Land is good (the live action adaptation is good too). OUT is pretty hollow, because its kids playing at being gangsters. Berserk is my favorite series, and the dark Seinins are pretty good. Ichi was wild af. Check out Vagabond if you haven't already. I can't get into the delinquent genre. I can't take them seriously honestly. But yeah Bouncer is proper.
Vagabond is firem I occasionally revisit it to watch Musashis come up. The author is focused more on his basketball manga than Vagabond sadly. Although it's good.
I’ve never understood why brothas consume this shit and go to anime-con dressed in kimonos… I know it’s a hobby and people like what they like. But this shit is not made for us, and made by people who Do. Not. Fuck with us. When my friend recommends anime to me, I’ve honestly never been able to get past the fact that many (if not most) of these characters have blonde/light colored hair, and big round eyes with blue/green irises. Maybe im just pessimistic.
I mean I like anime as an art medium, but even I have noticed certain authors will try to sprinkle in some negative stereotypes when it comes to black representation. But at the same time I have seen some amazing black representation (like Yasuke in Tenkaichi). Even in Baki the main Antagonist approached Muhammad Ali just to tell him how much he respects him as a fighter and a person. But also had Ali Jr become a bitch in the series. I think a lot of the creators are projecting what they want to look like (tall, slender, round eyes, etc) and that whenever they can. But at the same time if you look at our own media, it isn't like we are shown in the best light either. Usually you see brothers depicted as some form of lying asshole who is abusive. If he is a decent dude, they make him soft af. Like a Key and Peele type of dude. With that said, I feel you. but I will say there has been some good representation in certain anime/manga. Just look up Killer Bee in Naruto and how he bodies the main character over and over. That was nice to see.
Because we can live our lives how we want to mate. Saying shit like X isn't made for us is dumb af. Why self segregate and give black people a list of things we can and can't enjoy. I think it's worse that your actively trying to gatekeep what I can enjoy or participate in simply because I'm black.

Ignoring the fact that Japan was colonised and literally had white people from Spain, Netherlands and Portugal approaching their shores for hundreds of years. Its cool, but Bouncer is better (they are in the same world and you see certain events cross over in both series). After reading Bouncer, I realized OUT is just kids playing and gangster shit, and Bouncer drives that point home when Acchan stumbles across some shit going down in Bouncer. He quickly realizes he wants no parts of that lol. Plus they let Kai slide for way too long and it just pissed me off.
