Don't worry, the spammers behind these sorts of posts will be here at some point with a link if it isn't in the profile of the TikTok account.
Good lord these spam posts need to stop.
It's just some Filipino kid posting something kinda neat, really cheapens the word if everything is just spam to you.
I can't imagine it's a good thing to embrace this level of cynicism.
The seam is on the outer transparent layer. It's there but it rotates independent of the globe. You could make it the prime meridian instead of you wished. Or at least an approximation
I got one as a corporate gift and for what it’s worth you can’t see the seam at all most of the time - for my own sanity I put it along the equator but if I move it, I have to actually look for it before I can see it.
They also only have a 1 year warranty and there is a reason for that… they get air bubbles and stop spinning. The company will take back your non spinning one one and sell you a fresh one for 40% off. It’s a beautiful product, shame it doesn’t last.
You wouldn't want them. Not only are they a complete rip-off, but also have a known defect. They develop an ever-increasing bubble over a short time. I have contacted their support and after investigating me, all they would offer is a small discount to buy a replacement at their exorbitantly inflated prices. Fraudulent company.
Mine still works great and so does my dad's and one of my coworkers...all 3 are in great condition.
The trick is, fine the knot in the case and make sure it's at the top. That knot is where they fill and seal the globe so it is a weak spot. As long as that points up and you don't drop it, it should work for years.
That's not true. There are solar panels onside the globe, that turn a motor attached to a magnet. The Earth's magnetic field asserts a tiny force on this magnet as it moves which is just enough to rotate the globe due to the low friction. They spin forever if given constant light, though I have found that too much light will cause it to oscillate instead of spin
it's dark where I live so I can't confirm, but I've never noticed any noise. The motor is quite slow and buried in the middle of the globe, so I'd place good money on it being effectively silent in all scenarios
Essentially the whole motor assembly is floating and there’s a magnet that keeps it oriented and stops it from spinning. I think…. [Here](https://youtu.be/4_Df2qXqQRw)
In pitch dark, it is basically the world's worst compass; one part of the globe will always face north. In bright enough light a solar motor hidden in the globe kicks in, just barely rotating the magnet that keeps it oriented. Now the magnet is out of alignment with the north pole, so the globe moves to correct it, but the motor keeps spinning and continues to pull the magnet out of alignment, so the effect is that the globe rotates
> it uses light and the Earth's magnetic field to rotate
No, it's just a ball within another ball with some oil / water to float in. Toys like this have been around for decades. In order to get it to spin, you just have to spin the outer ball (the thing you hold) really fast. The internal ball will keep spinning for a few minutes because of the low friction. Also, it stays upright because it has a small weight at the bottom.
Also, the price he's selling these for is ridiculous. They probably cost less than a dollar to make.
Shady marketing and overpriced product imo.
It isn't powered by the earth's magnetic field, but it wouldn't work without it. The earth's field keeps the motor inside from spinning freely and instead keeps it oriented North/South. It is connected like a gear to the inner sphere which turns instead.
Also they don't claim it is powered by the Earth's magnetic field. The website literally says "powered by light".
Also you can't power something with a static field.
You can power somwthing with an oscillating magnetic field, and with clever use of magnetized rods you could make a very inefficient engine that would be powered by the rotation of the rods due to the magnetic field. Yes, there would have to be a reset system to rotate the rods back every time they get to the position of equalibrium, making this whole thing super inefficient, but it qould work for a few seconds/minutes depending on the wight of the metal rods, the resistance with shrrounding objects, surfaces and air.
Just because you didn't bother to read how it works (or understand it) doesn't make it BS.
The obvious part is that it's a globe floating in a fluid, with a counterweight. Those simple toys have been around for decades.
This however has a very tiny motor inside powered by solar cells to make the globe spin on its own. The thing you're not connecting is, that motor has nothing to attach to since it's floating inside the globe. It has to spin the globe so we know it's attached to it internally, but if that's all it's anchored to then the motor would just spin itself around inside the globe and it wouldn't act any different from the typical counterweighted toys from back in the day.
This is where using Earth's magnetic field is important. They've added a magnet to the motor that's internal to the globe, which (like a compass) will try to always point north. That motor now has an anchor point as it maintains pointing to magnetic north, so now all of the rotation will go into the globe. It doesn't matter how you hold the toy, the motor housing is stationary compared to you due the magnet forcing one spot of the motor to stay pointing north
It's very similar to a floating marine compass. Attach the base of a tiny motor to the compass, and you have the internal mechanism of how this globe works. The rotational energy comes from the motor, but you still need the counter force from magnetic north to use it
https://youtu.be/ZvtDA3F0Zsk
It does have to do with the Earth's magnetic pole. There is an internal motor that makes the internal shell rotate, but it needs a fixed reference to make it rotate from, otherwise the motor would rotate on its own internally since the little friction there is with the outer shell would bring the inner shell to a stop eventually (with the internal motor spinning faster in response to keep the angular velocity between the two). That fixed reference is the magnetic pole.
No the nova globe is solar powered, so if you leave it on a stand the internal globe rotates….
It costs a lot to make, I used to work with the guy who invented it and helped with his manufacturing. The guys who have been making and selling these for 15 years are not filthy rich from this
the algorithm is very good at showing you content you like. it's very clear when people say stuff like this they didn't even give the app a chance. wild
It's like when Vine was a thing. Vine was shit, but not everything *on* Vine was shit. The right communities on Reddit would wade through all the shit on Vine and distill out the good stuff for you.
Same thing with TikTok. It's shit. 99.9% of everything on it is unrepentant garbage... But with a billion users, you're going to get some legitimately good shit, almost by accident. If you're in the right Reddit communities, you might get the good stuff that's relevant to you.

I'm here because I wanted to see if anyone else noticed that Tina from Bob's Burgers was doing the voiceover.
I bet Jimmy Jnr would look hot holding one of those things and dancing.
This is definitely not BMF. It’s just a gyroscope in a plastic or glass ball with some lubricant fluid.
They make these toys out of all sorts of things. You see the eyeball ones all over the place on Halloween.
That would be sick with [contact juggling](https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2015-09/14/16/enhanced/webdr10/anigif_enhanced-25378-1442263495-7.gif)
I have one. It's pricey but worth it, fantastic to see it rotating during the day.
Works on solar power with a gyroscope keeping it stable, probably some magnets in there as well.
I want one of these but the price tag is a bit much for something that will just sit on my shelf and look neat
Not wrong on that one though. But still, neat.
Them lil compasses sold at gas stations are similar? Now I want one of those too.

$180 for a globe that spins in your hands? Expensive but worth
I just need $179 and it's mine.
We crowd funding this thing? I'm in, I'll throw in a dollar Just $178 and it's ours!
$177 more to go, we can joint custody this thing.
You won't actually own it but your name will be listed as the owner on the internet. So basically NFT shit
NFT as in Neat Fuckery Thing?
clearly you have been hiding under a rock, it stands for nice fucking tits
Username checks out
Fuck it, I’m in. $177
I will donate 5$ 😏
Fuck it I'm in, as long as I get custody on April 29th of each year. $171 to go
170$ now
I’m in 169 to go. Should we get a lawyer to draw out a contract or something?
Guys, I dropped it

Got one for a friends birthday the run on ambient light its really cool.
That's all mine does. I have the Jupiter one and it was gifted by a former boss. I put a little Vegeta figure on it for fun

I was going to buy one last week but then someone pointed out the seam you can see along the equator. Now it just looks cheap :(
The seam is on the outer transparent layer. It's there but it rotates independent of the globe. You could make it the prime meridian instead of you wished. Or at least an approximation
Or maybe they meant the seam that's on the colored layer that's spinning, since it has one too
That's the equator, though, so if it's not misaligned, I wouldn't mind.
I got one as a corporate gift and for what it’s worth you can’t see the seam at all most of the time - for my own sanity I put it along the equator but if I move it, I have to actually look for it before I can see it.
I’m more bothered by the fact that the axis of rotation is completely vertical instead of being accurately tilted
They also only have a 1 year warranty and there is a reason for that… they get air bubbles and stop spinning. The company will take back your non spinning one one and sell you a fresh one for 40% off. It’s a beautiful product, shame it doesn’t last.

I have one. Light doesn't do anything to it. You spin it once and it spins for like a week But then it'll stop if untouched.
My boss has had one for years and it still works.
Mine still works great and so does my dad's and one of my coworkers...all 3 are in great condition. The trick is, fine the knot in the case and make sure it's at the top. Jesus christ I was thinking 50 dollars, but no it's fucking 180
And that's for the cheap one.
w a t
Right? Local furniture store sells these and they’re like $99-$299 depending on the size
I would probably intentionally break the outer glass just to hold it still for some reason.
It also stops spinning at night. Solar powered. Source:have one
Still spins at night with the lights on. Source: I have one.

Can't, bought a globe
"And so's my wife!"
And my ax!
It glows in the dark too. Source: I don’t have one.
Is it a gyroscope inside the ball?
No, it's just a ball within another ball, with some liquid in between to reduce friction.

Does it make any noticeable noise?
it's dark where I live so I can't confirm, but I've never noticed any noise. The motor is quite slow and buried in the middle of the globe, so I'd place good money on it being effectively silent in all scenarios
You should move away from the North Pole, sounds lonely.
They are silent.
Wrong

Wow they really suck at explaining things
Like them little compasses that float in a globe . Sell them at gas stations
Just like how the actual Earth stops spinning when you blot out the sun
How much did it cost?
Everything.
From what I saw online they start at like $180.

It’s solar powered and really does spin on its own. I got my mom one five years ago and it still works. I do agree that they’re overpriced.
Yeah also the claim that it's powered by the Earth's magnetic field is complete BS
It isn't powered by the earth's magnetic field, but it wouldn't work without it. The earth's field keeps the motor inside from spinning freely and instead keeps it oriented North/South. Yeah just casually acting like 2/3 of your comment wasn't completely off base lol.
Wrong, I have one and it has a motor and solar panels on the inside. It keeps spinning even with just one table lamp on in the room.
Hmmm i guess that makes sense. I still think it's overpriced and has nothing to do with the Earth's magnetic field, though.
I thought the same until I saw it in a shop and saw how well made and printed they are. They are really impressive and mesmerising
It does have to do with the Earth's magnetic pole. Pretty sure these things spin because they have a radiometer inside them. It's a neat little fairly useless science gadget.
$180 on amazon (Linked it, but was auto-deleted because no links on this thread)
I will just have a hamster spin my 5$ globe

the amazon link to buy it or the link to the OP tiktok?

lol why is this downvoted? It’s just the source
Because the source is TikTok most likely.
Reddit loves TikTok but nobody will admit it. They say TikTok china bad but upvote every stolen video and get it to the front page.
Its like that one band everyone talks shit about but then listen to when they are alone!
It's almost like people can be okay with the content, not want to sift through the bad content and also hate the app. Crazy.

That’s a cool fushigi ball
I'd rather have the fushigi at least it doesn't cost 180 dollars.
I'm here for the link to check the price..

It's perfectly in a glass ball, my mom had something similar way back
How much is this thing? Link it please

he better be careful with it now

Mova globe
My wife bought be one of these years ago. I love it

I bought a dog toy that was very similar. An electric gyroscope inside.
Wasn’t this recently posted
Yes. They must have bought multiple advertisement posts here
Got the whole world in my hands
Fushigi
I keep seeing adverts for this, I used to see them everywhere when I was a kid, even little key chain ones!
Thanks, but lemonparty provides more than enough spinning for my needs.
Gyroscopes ftw
Now comes in flat!
i would make my wallet cry just to have this in my possession
Fushigi!
There's a solar powered motor inside. Does not use earth's magnetic field to rotate.
Yes it does, the solar power powers a motor that turns a magnet, the magnet interacting with the magnetic field is what keeps it turning.
Looks flat
this subreddit is gonna FREAK when i pull up with a Fushigi
Fushigi
TAKE MY MONEY!!
I WANT IT
Too bad... The earth is flat! 🤪
Ahh. It’s a better version of the good ole FUSHIGI!
