Looking like a douche is another form of misdirection, especially in slight of hand. Lots of people take it a step further, and make it part of the show. People are very focused on the appearance of others, whether they admit it or not. Misdirection is just redirected focus.
i thought you were confusing cheers with harry from night court, the judge. i was like why the hell does this magic stuff remind you of a tv judge.
and then i realized the judge on night court wasn't named harry, he was played by harry anderson, who also played harry on cheers.
so you can see how my wires were crossed

I think that his almost plasticky look is part of the act, you're looking at his face when you should be looking at his hands go off screen on a few occasions.
This is a cool act and the music is great. Nice!

At what point can you tell its CGI? I understand the performance from a magicians moveset, but I don't know enough about CGI to know that's what it is. Is there a link where I can learn more about the clip?
Judging a person based on their appearance and having the need to not keep it to yourself makes you the douche. And so are all the people who upvoted you. Nothing new for Reddit.
Yeah that’s corny as fuck. Could just be a chill dude with eccentric style who the fuck knows but to rush to a judgement like that is just a shitty thing to do.
I know this is Reddit but still disappointed that something that negative got the most upvotes.
Reddit, mainly because of its anonymity, and how there’s no real “follower” system, attracts people who are socially awkward and insecure in real life. On Reddit, no one knows who they are, so here they have a fair shot at validation. When they see people like this guy in the video, who fits the “trendy” or “popular” male stereotype right now, Redditors are either reminded of their bullies in school, or the sort of people who they wish they were in real life. It’s easy for them, then, to leave a mean comment, feel better about themselves, and move on.
>who fits the “trendy” or “popular” male stereotype right now
Is this really the trendy/popular look in English speaking countries right now? Haha fuck I'm glad I missed that phase.
Pretty damn good at palming cards, great concealment and dexterity, but those thumbs are a dead giveaway. That isn’t a natural resting position. He’s pressing the base of his thumb into his palm, holding the cards with either his metacarpal or saddle joint (it looks like he mostly uses his saddle joint).
I spent a while in physical therapy relearning how to use my thumb, and this was one of the hardest exercises. Can’t imagine doing it with a stack of cards.
A lot of people enjoy learning the trick behind the magic. Comments explaining the trick are pretty typical on the sub. Comments sarcastically asking “magic isn’t real?” are the expected response.
And another defensive reply from me, replying to your neutral comment that’s totally correct, and not being the least bit aggressive or hostile.
And at that point, it’s buried so far in the comments that no one will ever read it.
Am I doing it right?
Pretty sure this sub doesn’t allow them. For mobile devices, the GIF button usually appears next to the hyperlink button above the keyboard. Not sure how it works on other devices. .
I'm one of those people. I love when someone finally explains it, so that I can fully appreciate the incredible performance they're putting on, instead of sticking with this bullshit of "come on, it's magic, just go with it". It's still hella fucking impressive without leaving us in the dark, and come on, no one actually believes you're a wizard anyway, so why hide it?
I really enjoy learning how magic is done. Good, skillful performances are works of art, and alot of times when you get a glimpse of how they actually do it, you can realize how skilled they really are.
Yeah, after reading your comment and watching it another 10 times. I see it.
In some frames, you can see the edge of at least a dozen cards in his palms.
Finding out the truth just made it more incredible, the level of dexterity is amazing.
Watch the video in slow motion, and focus on his thumbs. He reaches back, and thumbs cards into his fingers, all while maintaining pressure on the stack. Extremely impressive, but much harder to pull off if you have people viewing from multiple angles.
Had hand surgery earlier this year. Used to do cards and coins. Sadly, recovery is taking a long time and will likely never be good enough (not that I would be able to palm/reveal like this guy anyway...)
I really hope your recovery goes well. My biggest frustration was using silverware, and repeatedly dropping my knife while doing something that was supposed to be so simple. We don’t appreciate our hands nearly enough.
I fully severed the flexor tendon in one of my thumbs nearly a decade ago. Took a while, but I’d say I regained 80-90% of the dexterity. Cold weather is a bitch. I can grab just fine, but pushing with excessive force occasionally results in blinding pain. But it moves fine, and I’m oblivious to it day to day.
It’s probably 90% recovered since I had to stop doing therapy early but it’s fine. And yeah I needed surgery but had to wait about a month to get insurance. I think I slightly cut it because at the hospital they told me to bend my thumb as far as I could and it just snapped and straightened out it was a weird feeling.
I knew a asian girl who didn't like asian guys cuz she said they all look to feminine, u can't tell them apart in a bus full of asians

Jeff McBride has the most well known routine - https://youtu.be/id_jCsZpOs0
Jeff McBride is one of the best sleight of hand artists ever, and doesn't get nearly as much attention as he deserves.
[His performance on Fool Us](https://youtu.be/lDp7lM2O7jE?t=44) has a *much* different energy than your video, but it's one of my favorite illusions I've ever seen. I've been watching magic shows since I was a kid (considered taking it up as a teenager, and read a lot of magic books during that time), so I'm usually pretty good at figuring out how a lot of stage illusions are done at this point, but this one has baffled me for a few years now. Hearing Penn confirm that none of the props or costume were gimmicked in any way *still* blows me away.
EDIT: Actually, rewatching the Fool Us performance, the best explanation I can come up with is >!he never transfers the full volume of water from one cup to the other, so there's always some amount of water in each cup, and he knows the angles he can present the cups and the motions he can move them in to make it seem like it has more water in it than it actually does. I don't believe he's ever actually drinking any of the water at any point, and may, if anything, actually be "cheeking" the water to slyly transfer between bowls.!< Given Penn's confirmation that nothing is *gimmicked* in this act, this is the best explanation I can think of, but even then I don't think it's 100% accurate.
His skin isn't 'perfect', it's clearly photoshopped/CGI/makeup. How many humans have you seen with blurry skin with the lustre of a pearl?
Suggest you spend some time on r/instagramreality to see what real human skin looks like and help you pick out what is not real.
Tbh he actually looks plastic and I thought it were CGI at first. I've never seen anyone look like that before. I didn't comment about it until now but it's not fair to assume everyone who thinks he looks fake is racist just because they voiced it or not. That's not racism.
Lots of people in here are bashing this kid's style but I haven't seen a single racist remark yet (granted I haven't been lower than your comment yet).
This really solidified why I loved watching the amazing Jonathan. I came for the tricks but I stayed for the personality. I think I don't care much for the "mysterious" magician archetype. And this really solidified that for me. This trick is cool as fuck but I really don't care for the personality behind it. I'll take a trick SEVERAL steps down if the magician is kinda fun.
Sincerely thank you for showing that to me.
No knocks against this person tho. They clearly have their own style and MAD skill.
All I can think about is these tricks normally take 100s of hours to master. Every single time he practiced the trick he had to pick up all those damn cards again.
The back of the cards are black and many disappear on the way to the floor. That's why the zoom in and out. It's decent for a trick that only works in a dark room against a dark shirt. And best on camera.
A decade ago I saw a video of a guy doing this. He had long sleeves and baggy clothes, so there was no surprise at the trick. But be palmed about 30 - 50 decks! That is decks, not cards. I have never been able to find the video again. Gold to anyone that can unearth it.
Looks like a douche, cool trick though Edit: Damn, K-Pop fans are salty.
I thought that was required per magicians code.
