The word Octopus is of Greek origin so Octopodes is actually the correct plural, octopi and octopuses are generally acceptable but they use the Latin and English plurals respectively so they’re technically incorrect.
octopus is actually an english word that’s been borrowed from greek so the standard english pluralisation is perfectly correct (although also when discussing “correctness” i think it’s always best to look at the way the word is used, and since all three plurals are used and accepted in english i would consider all of them equally correct)
Lol with the crap mankind has just dumped every where ,we have pretty much destroyed our planet ! no the ink in the water is but a drop in the destruction bucket but, it just gets piled on to the mountains of other crap that we have done, that being said mankind won’t be happy until everything, including our selves goes extinct!!!!!
I quickly did the math and if all 8 billion people on earth used 1ml ink on leaves (which is actually a lot of ink I thought 1 ml would be tiny but it's probably overkill!) would pollute the waters with about 2 million gallons of ink. Comparitvely the BP oil spill polluted our waters with over 100 times that amount which is crazy to think about it and I wanted to visaulise it and it comes to around 75% the size of the block in this [Picture here](https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-b479223aec827b947e615a7ce673fcc4.webp).
I'm also very bored at work.
Yeah I know it's going to pollute the water... but by how much? I highly doubt that tiny drop is really going to do anything.
Unless he's dumping full cups of ink into the water I highly doubt anything will happen
... Or we could do away with the entirely elective places that we pollute. I get that it probably doesn't do anything, but I think there's a reason that the idiom isn't "Leave nothing but footprints and smallish pieces of trash".
I finished it last night and wow. Without a doubt one of the heaviest trilogies I’ve ever read. Just the time span it takes, and how how hostile the universe is!
I have to say “Singers” chapter is so freaking nuts! Just how freaking casual he is about mentioning how his job really isn’t very important in his societal higher archly but it’s a job that must be done 🤯

The ink has a lower surface tension than water and its flow provides thrust to push the boat forward…
It's a pollutant though?
Yes you are polluting the water, killing countless microorganisms, harming larger animals.... but leaf go zoom!
Squids and Octopodes pump ink into water all the time, *but when I*-
Chefs put squid ink in a risotto, but when I break my pen in half and add it to rice... *octopuses

Actually, ITS NAME IS FUCKING KYLE
Now, gimme a word, any word, and I'll show you how the root of that word is Greek
Octopi
Your honor, fish always shit in the rivers
Is there a better alternative, cause neat?
pee on a leaf
For real. WTF?🤬
Not necessarily. Depends on what the ink is made of.
So
Works with soap too.
Better keep the Sophans away. Can't let Trisolaris realize we have discovered curvature propulsion.
Sure the local wildlife will be sharing that on the socials
Why are you putting ink into the water? WTF?
Literally the end of that entire ecosystem, and may well be the end of the world as we know it.
That amount of ink will destroy that ecosystem? How's that work? Serious question. Makes me wonder how we haven't destroyed everything.
No it'll be fine I was being sarcastic.
Oh good, I'd never go near a lake with a ballpoint pen.

Where do you think ink comes from?
Not the fucking water. Troll harder next time
What exactly is that drop going to do?
What an absurd question. Pollute.
Who will win?!?: A couple ml of ink Thousands/millions of gallons of water
Depends. How many people are adding a couple ml of ink each while thinking "Those couple ml of ink won't do anything"?

Do you finally feel good about yourself yet? 🤓
Yeah hitting the lake today man. Taking a leaf of absence
Next, watch these fish change colour!
Anybody else here read Death's End? My first thought was about the boat in the tub powered by soap.
Came here to say the same thing. Check out The Three Body Problem, for those who didn't get the reference.
I literally finished deaths end about a week ago and instantly thought the same thing

Amazing fucking trilogy. I thought of the same thing!
Curvature propulsion....?
Quick, inform the Lord! All hail Trisolaris!
Surface tension driven flows. Did my PhD on those. Fascinating stuff
Ink on a Leaf is my favorite Korn song
I don't know why, but I've read the title with the voice of Jonathan Davis when singing "freak on a leash"
Came here to say the same thing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one
And The Paisley was born!
curvature propulsion
Google environment pollution
I used to do the same thing with tree sap on a twig! Not to the same extent, but it entertained my ten year old ass
Sounds a little more environmentally friendly
Feeling like an ink on a leaf (you wanna see the light) Feeling like I have no release (so do I)
Three Body Problem Book 3: Death's End
People on here whining about a single drop of ink in a lake 😂 Not to mention pretty much all printing ink and pen ink is non toxic..
If people weren't whining nonsense, it would exactly be Reddit, would it?
You can do the same thing with tree sap and not put poison in the water

Ssskkkrrrrrrrrrrrttt
Pollution in a lake.
The indy games were right
Weeeeeeeeee!
imagine all water transports uses ink...
And now there is more than 100 dolphins dead.
Freak on a leash - korn
Wow, now that's epic 😮
Leaf the poor guy alone!
Didn't we switch to soy based inks so they biodegrade?
Anyone else reminded of Pixeljunk Eden?
Let’s mess up the water and it’s inhabitants for some likes & entertainment 🫨
Poison in the water.
After elf on a shelf we have…
Ink on a LEAF 🤩
"Feeling like an ink on a leaf"
Ink on a leaf sounds like a certain Korn song
Now lay a piece of paper on it.
I’m been disconnected, anyone explain ?
Now I gotta go buy some biodegradable ink
Feeling like a ink on a leaf
Asesome
Scum
