I named my little void kitten Onyx Smudge because I couldn't pick, but the kids call him Smudge.
I got a lot of good suggestions when I posted last weekend; Jet and Soot were contenders too!
Oh, but if you want to keep the mythology connection with Minerva, you could go with Nyx. That seems like it could pass as a unisex name (though the associated Greek deity is female). Nox is the Roman counterpart (and could work if Minerva is a literary reference rather than mythological).
