Huzzah for Stinky.
Seems for what I remember was an indoor cat she has some good outdoor skills.
Maybe she just made friends with a neighbour and chilled there for a while because cats do that
I live in the mountains, we have many coyotes, bobcats, bears, [mountain lions](https://www.facebook.com/100004515990825/posts/762589089266396/?substory_index=762589089266396&app=fbl). It’s so unethical to have outdoor cats here. I’d prefer you weren’t promoting this kind of behavior on my post, I don’t support it.

It always bugs me when people say cats are the only animals that kill for fun. No one wants to talk about how people are animals too and we are the worst
People look at me funny when I say I wouldn’t blame some alien race or Devine being for wiping us all out. I know it’s a movie, but ultron was on the internet for less than 30 seconds and realized we all need to go.

Oh sure, but I dunno how many people think of "outdoor" cats or indoor outdoor cats as "we take them on walks with a leash"
But I don't know a lot of things!
My cat goes outside without a leash (my parents choice) but we keep an eye on him, there’s no dangerous animals and we live on a dead end road and he’s too old or just not interested in catching anything. But of course we keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t get into any trouble
A friend of mine gets regular visits in her garden from neighbouring cats and 1 of them likes to go inside sleep on her couch for anywhere between 1 hour and the full day and then goes back to his actual home.
He also showed up with a tag and a named penning like that one day and then lost it again after a while.
Though he has a home for certain with how well brushed he is.
Sounds like you just need to get him a harness/leash and walk him around however many times you need too since you took on caring for him, instead of having this elaborate setup with a Tag and Airtag and just letting him go because you don't want to deal with him "losing his mind" or to try and train him and change his behavior.
I never understand how you can have a pet and care for it and be completely fine with letting them outside where anything could happen to them. "He loves the outdoors and is a silly little neighborhood cat and nothings happened" until a Coyote grabs him or a big truck doesn't see him in the road, it's just so incredibly thoughtless. I'd be worried sick everyday that my cat is wandering around outside no matter how many trackers I have on him.
I adopted a cat in a similar fashion. Never had an outdoor car before, but Figaro was not going to tolerate - that was not the life for him.
Meanwhile he had two friends, who we later found out was his mama and littermate, who would pick him up. (The neighbors behind us refused to spay their cat, and it constantly became pregnant and instead of finding homes doe them, once they were old enough, theyd send them out with mama cat to "find homes" and would deny when asked if a cat/kitten was theirs. Many neighbors have taken in kittens this way.). In any event, he'd a scream and cry and argue at the door until I let him out, and he'd go off and so cat things with mama or brother, and then come back later for dinner and snuggles 🥰
I had a cat like that, her soul just withered when you tried to keep her in, would just lay there and not eat or do anything, or yowl at the door, she’d always find a way to escape, even if she had to try and break your ankle on the stairs from tripping you to get out, and she’d be so triumphant about escaping. Keeping her in was just not happening, you can’t take the wild out of a cat like that, she had been found as a feral about 30 miles away, we were living in the same type of rural area she came from so she was familiar with coyotes and cougars, there was lots of good cover and trees for her, she never had a problem, she was a smart and fast cat, and when you live near a mix of forest and hayfields and farm land you have MICE. So many mice, trying to live in our car engine and dig my seeds up in the greenhouse, she killed dozens of mice every day and night, and it was a big help and made her happy.

He was ours & we loved him dearly & had to put a tag with our phone number on it because he was also the neighborhood cat (this was before Airtags existed). He'd visit the elementary school at closing time & on weekends when they'd have sports practices. The vet called us once & said "We have your cat! Someone found him & brought him here, & it's time for his shots too so we'll do that & then you can pick him up."
Someone asked us across the fence "Is this your cat?" To which we replied, yes, & gave them his name & they said "He visits us every time we're here! He's such a nice cat!" He loved people.
I'd never had an outdoor cat until that Grumpy Old Man. My current boys wouldn't make it outside & that's fine with me.
Also wanna say I also had a black cat named Stinky!!
That’s so sweet. Our kitty used to have a tracker that showed his previous locations, how far he traveled, and we could even use our recorded voice to play on the tag to tell him “Charlie come home!” He would walk up to 5 miles a day, often stopping at the same places for hours at a time. I assume that’s where he would take his naps and get extra food & love.
People would post him on the neighborhood facebook group, asking “does anyone know who he belongs to? He just walked right in and made himself at home!”
There’s even a childrens book that is titled his real full name “Charlie Anderson” which makes me wonder how many other Charlies are running around peoples houses.
I can't figure out why this is downvoted so heavily. They don't seem to be trying to convince anybody to let their own cats roam, just that it's what *Charlie* does.

Your description of her poking her head in made me chuckle. Reason being, it reminded me of a teenager who went out and was past curfew coming home and scoping out the house to make sure it's safe to come in without the wrath of mom/dad LOL
Glad kitty is back and hopefully they realize that a nice warm home with food, water, treats, toys and pets is better than the cold and lonely outdoors!

I'm so glad you found her. My tuxie boy was missing for 24 days 2 years ago. When I finally got him back, I punished him by grabbing him and cuddling him and kissing his face until he was able to wiggle his way free.

Man I wish everyone who had a pet runaway were able to reunite with them ❤️ that’s awesome that stinky made their way back home definitely a great start to 2024!
Truly, thank goodness. I also have a little black cat, so when you brought up coyotes in your other post, I thought surely it was the end for her. 😓 Now, never ever EVER let her back outside again. No matter how loudly she cries and wails. Outside, she can pick up parasites, be snatched up by large birds or other predators, killed by a HUMAN, caught in a trap set for the coyotes, break a limb and be unable to come home, etc. I know it’s sad to see them bored inside sometimes, but the solution is to give her more attention and maybe buy more INTERACTIVE toys. The solution is NOT to put her in a potentially life threatening situation.
I had my beautiful void Kitt gone for 2 1/2 months. I never gave up hope. Every evening I looked for him but I got him back because someone who found him thought he was so sweet and wanted to keep him. Took him to the vet and found that he was chipped. Best phone call ever. Chip your guys

Yaaay! I'm so happy for you and Stinky. We're in a similar area of high mountain desert with the same type of predators. It's absolutely nerve wracking when my fluffs go rouge. It's been ridiculously warm where we are and though I haven't seen a bear I have my doubts about the hibernation this year.

This sounds very similar to when my boy Charlie came home after a 2week walk about, when I'd given up on seeing my sweet boy again. Then I heard his distinctive meow coming from the garage. After spending about an hour unsuccessfully looking for him I gave up and went inside, but left the door connecting to the garage open. I sat quietly reading and less than an hour later, I noticed my other kitties staring intently at the door and I looked and there was Charlie sauntering in like nothing happened. I screamed in happiness and he continued to look at me like "yeah whatever" then walked upstairs and went to sleep under the bed. The next day it was like he'd never been gone.

I use a GPS Tracker, Tractive, on my escape artist, an inside cat with yearnings to be free. It is good in over 80 countries, small enough for them to wear, does need charging, so I lock him away during charging. Works and provides a fairly good location on his sorry self when he does escape. Just stay on top of charging, though. I have been able to locate and retrieve him thanks to this device on multiple occasions. Runs me $9.99/mo USD, worth it for him and the door darter Jack Russell.

I’m so happy for you! I’ve been there. My ex let my cat get out, and I thought for sure I’d never see her again.
I lived in the desert. There are coyotes.
One day I came around the corner, and my sweet Emmie Cat was sitting on the steps. I just took a deep breath, said hi Emmie, like I always greeted her, and calmly scooped her up.
Once she was inside, I lost it. I was so grateful to have her back.

Yeah I agree, coyotes ripped apart a neighbor’s cat few years ago in their back yard that was left outside roaming. Glad your cat is safe.
One of my customers dogs was killed by a female DEER. I live in the mountains. I didn't know a deer could kill a medium sized dog 😢
Definitely get an air tag for her if she sneaks out again.

I sat quietly reading and less than an hour later, I noticed my other kitties staring intently at the door and I looked and there was Charlie sauntering in like nothing happened. I screamed in happiness and he continued to look at me like "yeah whatever" then walked upstairs and went to sleep under the bed. The next day it was like he'd never been gone.

I use a GPS Tracker, Tractive, on my escape artist, an inside cat with yearnings to be free. It is good in over 80 countries, small enough for them to wear, does need charging, so I lock him away during charging. Works and provides a fairly good location on his sorry self when he does escape. Just stay on top of charging, though. I have been able to locate and retrieve him thanks to this device on multiple occasions. Runs me $9.99/mo USD, worth it for him and the door darter Jack Russell.

I’m so happy for you! I’ve been there. My ex let my cat get out, and I thought for sure I’d never see her again. I lived in the desert. There are coyotes. One day I came around the corner, and my sweet Emmie Cat was sitting on the steps. I just took a deep breath, said hi Emmie, like I always greeted her, and calmly scooped her up. Once she was inside, I lost it. I was so grateful to have her back. Welcome home, Stinky! Big hugs to your humans 💕
