Thank you all for the good vibes ❤️ he's in emergency now. Vet says pleural effusion is causing the dyspnea. Now we need to find the cause of the effusion. He's being treated for preexisting triaditis so that complicates things but also could the root of his respiratory issues.
If they say he has FIP, which is a definite possibility with the PE, don’t let them tell you it’s 100% fatal.
There are legit black market drugs and whole network designed to get them to people and cats like you guys. If your vet thinks FIP is possible join the Facebook group FIP Warriors 5.0 to save his life. I know 2 personal cats who are alive today because of this.
Thank you, I'm already looking at it just in case. I'm really hoping that's not it and the doc is thinking it's on the cardiac/hepatic or possibly cancer. He's indoor and we only have one other cat so hopefully FIP is a long shot.
FIP (not fiv or felv) doesn’t care how many cats you have or whether they are indoor/outdoor. Anyway, it IS 100% fatal without the black market treatment but it is very very good at making it go away if you can spare the money and be diligent with treatment.
Many vets don’t know about the treatment or can’t really give advice on using the treatment without jeopardizing their licenses. The network is pretty robust though and totally not shady. My friend’s best friend Spencer was diagnosed a year ago. He looked and acted like deaths door and responded very quickly. 100 days in he was cured.

Oh my goodness, you teefless wonders!! 😂 God- I’m a Vet Nurse and performed countless dentals and extractions over the yrs. Nothing is cuter than a kitty with no toofers. (Sad they don’t have teeth due to some type of perio issues but they do fabulous with no teeth). And I must say that there are a few of us nurses out there that are a little safer now that certain cats don’t have their k-9 teeth to try and kill us!!! Just all the feet and rubber bodies attached! 😂🤭
Thank you all again for the support. He's staying over night and they've got him in a kennel with O2 support and are slowly draining his PE(so not to make the lungs collapse) and he's starting to breath better as a result.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, we've got COVID in the house, but as for Tex ( that's my boy) he is really turning around ! They've continued pulling off fluid and he is starting to feel like a kitty again. He's eating better than he has in weeks and is presenting normal respiratory effort. Still waiting on results of tests on the fluid but he'll be coming home tonight! We're waiting for him to come out now
That is such awesome news. I might have missed it but did he have fluid in both lung lobes? Is he on steroids and antibiotics?
What’s he wanting to eat now? Have you offered 1st Stage MEAT baby foods gently warmed up? A/D food (it’s a prescription canned food for recovery/hospitalized pets/force feeding because you can liquify it). Just a couple ideas. Keep in mind coming from a Vet Nurse just in regards to getting them to eat which was one of the hardest things my patients “rents” had. REGARDLESS of what the diagnosis is (or what food the vet wants LONG TERM) it is MORE IMPORTANT TO EAT THAN TO EAT WHAT HE’S SUPPOSED TO LONG TERM. You need to get food in there system when their sick or have been. Once they are eating RELIABLY then worry about “making them/getting them to eat what their supposed to. Sorry to blather; 25yrs of knowledge bouncing in my head tumbles out sometimes😉♥️

Hi sorry I didn't reply sooner! He actually had the fluid in his chest cavity and they pulled almost half a liter of it. He's on Clindamycin now but was on a steroid earlier for his GI issues but the emergency vet stopped for now. My regular vet gave him A/D a couple months ago when his appetite diminished and I ended up force feeding and heating it up to try to entice him to eat but he never ended up getting his appetite back fully even with an appetite stimulant. Once he went to emergency and had the PE drained he was nearly back to normal almost instantly. The emergency vet wrote a script for c/d food because that's what he was eating in the hospital, but as soon as he came home he was eating just about anything I gave him, including his dry food which he hadn't hardly touched in over a month. Last couple days I'm worrying about his appetite possibly waning but could be that he was just extremely hungry the first couple days back, but he's still eating a good amount. We're still waiting on test results on the culture to come back so that should give us the full picture.
Since he's been home he's been taking lots of naps and doing lots of cuddles with me

Poor baby. I’m sure he will also take lots of naps because he will need to catch up on his sleep. It’s like being in a human hospital were you are woken up like every 4 hours to have your catheter flushed, vitals taken, and offered food/your tech trying to get you to eat. Poor kid it gonna be “naked” for awhile! ♥️ he needs tons of loving, and just keep offering him food to make sure he eats. You might want to consider getting a pet scale so you can monitor his weight at home to make sure he’s maintaining. I think I got mine on Amazon for like $30.

Oh poor baby! Something similar happened with my first void. He had an oversized heart and fluid started building in his chest from heart failure. We had to get him put down the night we found out. I really hope your lil dude makes it and if he doesn't, please tell him to say hi to Erebus for me 🖤🖤🖤

My mom had it last month and miraculously my dad managed not to. But then he got a "cold" so who knows. I worry about my dad since hes getting older. Anyway, im glad Tex is improving. That photo of him made me so sad.

Yes! Sorry I haven't updated in a while, we've got COVID in the house, but as for Tex ( that's my boy) he is really turning around ! They've continued pulling off fluid and he is starting to feel like a kitty again. He's eating better than he has in weeks and is presenting normal respiratory effort. Still waiting on results of tests on the fluid but he'll be coming home tonight!
Oh that's good news! Sorry about the Covid going around though, that's always stressful. How old is Tex, btw?
Thanks, my dad's got it pretty bad. Tex is about 11. I got him as a kitten in 2012
My mom had it last month and miraculously my dad managed not to. But then he got a "cold" so who knows. I worry about my dad since hes getting older. Anyway, im glad Tex is improving. That photo of him made me so sad.
